It seems like only yesterday that we were all basking in the glow of the Twilight movies. A new film series was just what the world needed, and who else could play Bella and Edward than the stunning Kristen Stewart and the dashing Robert Pattinson? Just when we thought the romance between Bella and Edward would never end, BFFs and celebrity marriage candidates, Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston, surprised us with their wedding announcement and the media went into overdrive.

The engagement and wedding of Taylor and Tom were such a hot topic that people even started a Twitter account, @TaylorswiftHiddleston, to track the couple’s every move. They even got a book, Love, Life, Luxury: How to Enjoy the Good Things in Life, written by the famed celebrity chef, Carole Brown, which became an instant bestseller. The frenzy lasted for months until the couple’s beautiful story came to an end when they sealed their union with a kiss in a gorgeous reception in San Francisco.

Well, the years have gone by and we’re still thinking about that monumental day. But just as Bella and Edward’s story came to an end, so did Taylor and Tom’s whirlwind romance. Taylor has been single ever since while Tom, now Sir Tom Hiddleston, has been busy setting up his charity, Tideway, which aims to reduce food waste and increase sustainable food security. So it seems like a bit of a disconnect that, not only has Taylor not found the love of her life, but she’s also launched a charity to help other people find their perfect match.

But as we’ve all learned from watching romance flicks, sometimes happy endings are just that: romantic comedy endings. Sometimes, the couple that makes us believe in true love and fairy tales, turns out to be just that – a couple. Case in point, let’s take a little stroll down memory lane and revisit one of the most famous wedding movies of all time.

Paris – La Défense, Centre Pompidou, Culture Hub

One of the most glamorous cities in the world, Paris, has so much to offer. From the bustling streets of Paris to the beauty of its iconic monuments and museums, it’s one of the most exciting and romantic cities you could visit. It seems like only yesterday that we were enjoying the Parisian lifestyle with our own eyes thanks to the gorgeous Kate Winslet and her cinematic portrayal of Jane Eyre. While we were there, we were lucky enough to see Jane Eyre’s director, Cary, adagio into Adèle’s arms at the Louvre and we knew it was going to be a romantic day. In fact, it was so romantic that it made the perfect movie wedding backdrop.

And then there was the time that Michael Caine proposed to Yoko Shimizu (played by Mie Hama) while taking a walk along the beach in Japan. The actor picked a beautiful spot on a cliff and got down on one knee to propose. It was so romantic that it even made for a Hollywood blockbuster. It seems like the Japanese beach proposal has been replicated so many times that it’s now considered a classic trope.

The Wedding Crashers

Tiger Woods and Carole Radziwill’s wedding broke records for the wedding video market. More than a billion views on YouTube later and the couple are still as cute as ever. Theirs was a movie star wedding complete with red carpet appearances and high-profile guests. It seems that the Crashers’ wedding was so romantic not just because of Tiger’s famous grill and banter with the guests, but because of the way he wooed his bride-to-be. He proposed in the most romantic of ways, taking her to a gents’ toilette and dropping to one knee before presenting her with an exquisite box of chocolate brownies. The proposal was so romantic that it made for one of the most romantic movies of all time. It’s safe to say that we’ll never get sick of watching a Taylor-Tom Hiddleston wedding.

It seems like this year has been a gift from above. We’ve been graced with some incredible cinematic moments of romance, courtesy of Hollywood heavyweight producers and directors. The perfect storm seemed to have brewed itself and it delivered in spades. From star studded ceremonies to proposals and ending with an unforgettable kiss, it seems like this year has been a good year for romance. Whether you’re looking for a proposal or just want to make your special someone feel loved, these films are a good place to start.
