While we’re always glad to see a celebrity couple share an on-screen romance as wonderful as Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart’s, it’s safe to say we’ll miss them on-screen and on social media as much as we’ll miss them in real life. But as much as we loved watching them share cinematic magic on-screen, it’s clear that their fairy-tale romance was just that – a romance made for the big screen.
Off-Screen Chemistry
From the very beginning, we knew something was amiss when we didn’t see much of Stewart on-screen with Pattinson. Sure, at the premiere of their film, On the Road, they made brief eye contact as he walked her down the red carpet, but that was it. And even when they were holding hands, they weren’t exactly gazing into each other’s eyes. We saw them interact on screen, but it was minimal – mostly composed of brief, forced smiles and a few awkward laughs, as if they weren’t quite sure how to behave around each other.
But, on the flip side, we saw Pattinson everywhere with his Twilight co-stars. He was goofy, quirky, and just plain fun to be around. And, even when they were filming those tense, dramatic scenes, you could usually tell they were enjoying themselves. Their chemistry off-screen was obviously there too, which is why we’ll likely never get sick of watching them interact on camera.
Variety Is The Spice Of Life
Just a few years ago, we were flocking to theaters to see the latest movie from the Hobbit guys. Then, after watching the movie, we were going to see a show that was likely to make us laugh, maybe even make us cry. Those were the kinds of films and shows that built up our love for cinema – the kind of variety that is present in today’s world but is sadly missing from many theaters. And it’s not just variety we’re talking about. While we’re always glad to see the great classics retold or revisited, we’ve also come to expect that our films will have something spectacular to offer in terms of special effects, action scenes, and comedic timing.
With a little more than a year before The Avengers: Infinity War premieres, it’s clear that the production team behind Captain America’s latest adventure is trying to cram as much content into the film as possible. That way, fans of the character will have something to cheer about and critics will have something to complain about (hopefully both) when the movie is released.
Also, with so much focus placed on Hollywood, it’s clear that directors, producers, and others in the industry are trying to push the envelope as far as they can, experimenting with new forms of storytelling and making bold moves that will land them on everyone’s radar. It would be great to see more originality in films. Cinema is a beautiful, unique form of art and while many may argue that it’s been going through a bit of a slump, the fact remains that there is still so much variety to be found in theaters. It would be amazing to see more films that push the boundaries of what we consider to be “cinema.” Variety is the spice of life and it would be great to see it back in theaters.
The Screen Is Getting Small
Whether we like it or not, the world is changing. More and more people are seeing films on-screen than ever before, thanks to things like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime. Home entertainment is becoming more important than ever, which is why producers are looking to the small screen for inspiration. Why should spectators only look at the big screen if what they want is to see movies? Why should they miss out on a wonderful series just because it’s on the other side of the world?
And perhaps most importantly, technology is changing the way we consume content, especially when it comes to stories. People love stories and it’s something that human nature has never really left us. Thanks to things like virtual reality and augmented reality, we’ll soon be able to engage with stories in ways that weren’t possible previously. In the future, we may fall into traps regarding our media, especially regarding fiction and science-fiction, but that’s another story.
The point is that we’re missing out on so much by not being open to new experiences. Even if we’ve been a certain way our entire life, it’s never too late to change. It may not always be easy or even possible, but we should never be afraid to try. Variety is the spice of life and we should do everything we can to see more movies, television shows, and other forms of entertainment. Who knows – maybe one day, we’ll be thanking Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart for changing our lives.
