There are so many talented people who worked on Harry Potter–not just the actors but also the designers and directors who worked tirelessly to bring the story to life.
Now that the series is over, it’s time for everyone to go home. But there are some people who don’t want to let go of the dream that Harry Potter would still be going strong. So they decided to do something about it.
The idea for a Harry Potter reunion came about after Emma Watson, who plays Hermione Granger in the films, shared on social media that she would love to work with Robert Pattinson again. Since the release of Twilight in 2011, Watson has mostly stayed out of the spotlight, but that all changed this year when she started posting about wanting to work with Pattinson again.
There was even a cryptic post on her Instagram where she wrote: “It’s been too long since we seen some Twighlight on the big screen. Hope to see more from the incredible @robertpattinson soon. Can’t wait to put those acting skills to the test. #teamelf.”
But even though she’s got her eye on the fame that comes with an Harry Potter role, Watson is far from the only one who thinks that working with the English actor would be a thrill. Fans of the quartet of films that started it all want to see what happens next. Why did Robert Pattinson turn them down? Let’s take a look.
Pattinson Would Want To Work On Something Different
At this point in his career, Robert Pattinson is a man of many hats. Not only does he seem to effortlessly straddle the line between famous and infamous, but the actor is also developing a reputation for being a bit of a maverick. The latest to bow to his unconventional charms is the high school musical genre, which he has largely avoided up until now. After graduating from high school, Pattinson briefly attended Cambridge University but dropped out to focus on his acting career.
A lifelong fan of J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, Pattinson eventually signed on to play the lead in the first Potter film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. After completing filming, the actor was determined to explore other avenues in life, and the opportunities that came with his newfound stardom. He was initially offered the role of the villain in the now classic Twilight film, but he turned it down.
Pattinson’s decision to pass on playing the vampire turned out to be a smart one. Instead, he decided to take the role of the handsome and broody Christian Grey in the erotic Twilight Saga. Although Robert Pattinson’s casting directors may not always agree, his decision to pass on playing a villain in order to focus on starring roles seems to have paid off. Many of his films, including 2014’s The King, focus on leading men who are brooding or wicked, and fans seem to have taken to the new material too. Even his lesser known films, such as Water for Elephants, seem to have resonated with audiences.
Pattinson Is Still Unavailable For Several Major Films
After the phenomenal success of the first two Harry Potter films, Warner Bros. made the unprecedented move of offering Robert Pattinson a seven-figure sum just to keep him away from the big screen. The offer, reportedly worth millions, came with a major caveat. The studio wanted the actor to commit to a three-year cycle of making at least two new films annually. If the studio and Harry Potter didn’t work out, they would have to pay him the seven figures back plus interest.
Pattinson turned down the offer, mostly because he was hoping to work on less conventional projects, and Harry Potter quickly found a new lead in Daniel Radcliffe. The two subsequently played a romantic lead in the films’ much-loved final installment, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
While Daniel Radcliffe was more than willing to take on the challenge of playing Harry Potter for the last time, Pattinson, who had previously expressed interest in doing more romantic comedies, balked at the prospect. As it turned out, even the opportunity to work on a romantic comedy with Emma Watson fell through. The actress was busy with other projects at the time, including a starring role in the high school musical comedy series, Glee, and she eventually ended up passing on the offer too.
Warner Bros. had to settle for Andy Serkis, who played the iconic Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter films. The opportunity to work with him paid off, as his performance in the film was exceptional. He won the People’s Choice Award for Best Supporting Actor at the Sundance Film Festival and the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Since then, he’s continued to amaze audiences in the character of Caesar, the computer-generated octopus hybrid in the Black
Tommy films.
An Opportunity To Work With Chris Hemsworth
The biggest regret that Robert Pattinson has is not working with Chris Hemsworth again. The two briefly worked together on the 1997 film, The Fourth Man, and although they never actually played a scene together, the Harry Potter alumna said that working with him was one of the most transformative experiences of her career. Hemsworth, who plays the titular hero in the upcoming Marvel Studios flick, Thor: Love Interest, was unavailable for comment at the time of publication. But even if the opportunity doesn’t present itself, Robert Pattinson, like many other fans, is still eager to work with the Australian actor. He tweeted in 2017 that he was “heartbroken” to have missed out on working with Hemsworth one last time. If only he could turn back the clock.
Why Does Everyone Remember The Goblet Of Fire?
If you’ve been paying attention to the Harry Potter series in the past decade, you’ll know that the Goblet Of Fire was the most difficult of the quartet to write. The script for the fifth and final film was reportedly so difficult to decipher that the team of screenwriters who worked on it had to enlist the help of the actual Goblet Of Fire, which is housed at the Harry Potter Museum in London. The Goblet Of Fire is the spiky metallic silver trophy that Harry, Ron, and Hermione win for their performance in the Quidditch match in Deathly Hallows. Even diehard fans of the series need to have watched the film multiple times to understand what is going on, due to the numerous scriptural allusions and narrative ambiguities contained within the script.
The Goblet Of Fire is easily one of the most recognizable pieces of memorabilia from the Harry Potter series. It is a popular choice for fans who want to personalize their collection, and it even earned its own hashtag on social media, #GobletOfFireChallenge, as fans worked to decipher the cryptic clues that the script contained.
Doesn’t The Real Story Come From Voldemort’s Point-of-View?
Even people who have never read a word of Harry Potter or seen a single one of the films are familiar with the tropes and symbols contained within the series. One of the most iconic memes to come out of the series is the #ReversetheFuture hashtag, which alludes to the fact that Voldemort, who appears in every film, is the true villain of the story. He wants to turn back the clock to the era before Harry Potter and his friends began their magical journey. In the meme, Voldemort stands with his back to a wall covered in posters of famous witches and wizards, all with their backs to him. On the other side of the wall is a future where people are celebrating Harry Potter’s achievements.
As a self-professed Potterhead, Robert Pattinson has found the idea of a Harry Potter reunion exciting, if slightly baffling. The series was such a phenomenon that even people who weren’t into fantasy fiction or comic books were nonetheless drawn to it. So why not bring the magic back through collaboration? What happens when the man behind the myth dies and new generations try to live in the shadow of the greatest story ever told?
