While many of his fans may be sad to see Robert Pattinson embark on a movie career outside of his Twilight world, it seems like it’s going to be a good move. The British actor has been in London filming the upcoming movie Kingsman: The Golden Circle, and we’d love to know more about his everyday life here!
Pattinson is one of the most recognizable stars of the 21st century, and he’s been in movies like Good Omens, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, and the most recent Transformers film, where he played the heroic Autobot Jazz.
Since his move to London, the actor has been keeping busy with filming and promoting several upcoming films. After wrapping up his filming for Kingsman: The Golden Circle, we caught up with Pattinson to talk about his new movie, the London filming process, and much more!
Kingsman: The Golden Circle
The Golden Circle is the third film in the Kingsman series, and it sees the British spy agency, Kingsman, going head to head with American rival group, the Statesman. In the first film, Kingsman: The Secret Service, we learned that the head of Kingsman, Colin King (Pattinson), was essentially running the agency self-sacrificially, while his deputy, Harry Hart (Michael Caine), dreamed of a day when he could lead the agency. Now, King and Hart are set to tackle the Statesman with a plan to destroy them from within.
Pattinson plays a dual role in The Golden Circle, starring as both Agent King and his alter ego, Eggsy. The sequel to Secret Service sees Hart going solo as Director Harry Hart, and it also stars Margot Robbie as the fierce and independent agent Phicewoman Saffron. Together, they battle an evil corporation named Rotterdam, whose top agent is played by Taron Egerton – one of the fastest rising stars of his generation. Robbie is also set to reprise her role as Domino in Doctor Strange, where she’ll face Stephen Strange in a battle of wits and magic.
Filming for Kingsman: The Golden Circle took place primarily in London, and it was here that we got to see the English actor in full action mode. In addition to his Kingsman roles, Pattinson starred in the biopic, Pattinson, about the early career of the actor. The movie is based on an upcoming James Bond novel by James Plumpton, and it sees the superstar play a very young Robert Pattinson, as the book’s titular character. The role also marks the acting debut of the British actor’s wife, Bella.
The Book of Henry
The Book of Henry is a historical fantasy adventure film directed by Peter Bogdanovich and starring Tilda Swinton. The story follows Henry, a young boy who discovers a magical tome that changes his life forever. As well as being a fantasy tale, the movie also explores the Holocaust and the rise of Nazism in Germany. Swinton plays the legendary opera singer, Sally, who mentors Henry and befriends his family. The English actress and singer is no stranger to big-name cameos, having starred in Pete & Peaches, a film about the friendship between painter Francis Picasso and singer-songwriter Woody Guthrie, as well as appearing in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1955 film, The Man Who Knew Too Much. The Book of Henry also features appearances from Stephen Fry, Michael Caine, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and more!
Transformers: The Verge
Finally, we have Transformers: The Verge, the fourth film in the Transformers series and the final installment of the trilogy that began with Transformers: Dark of the Moon. In this film, Autobot heroes join forces with humans to stop an alien war machine, named the Quintesson. More than twenty years after the events of the previous film, the war-mongering Decepticons have returned, led by the giant, Slusheen, who seeks to rebuild their shattered empire.
The fourth film also sees the return of fan-favorite character, Bumblebee, played by the English actor, Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton is no stranger to action films, having starred in Quantum of Solace and Casino Royale, and it’s great to see him back in such an important role. He even took time out of his busy schedule to write and direct a mini-doc, Hamilton’s Secret, about his time working with acclaimed director Stanley Kubrick. This documentary explores the making of the iconic science fiction film, 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Other Projects
Aside from the previously mentioned projects, Pattinson’s 2019 also sees the release of Birds of Prey (Out 2019), a gender-swapped version of the 1992 crime thriller, My Cousin Vinny; The Lost Explorer, in which he searches for the yeti; and finally, The Laundry, his directorial debut, which he also wrote. The Laundry stars Tom Holland as a man who inherits a laundry business from his uncle and discovers that the company he runs is actually responsible for the death of one of its customers. It’s a dark comedy that explores the meaning of family and loyalty. The film’s plot also references the Parable of the Laborers in the Book of Matthew.
Where Do You Stay?
Speaking of family, perhaps one of the most interesting things about Pattinson is how much he’s been able to balance his personal and professional life. He continues to be one of the most recognizable faces in the world today, but he also has a family with whom he lives and shares his life. While the British actor has often been seen out and about with his wife, Bella, they seem to keep these luxurious nights to themselves, instead opting to invite only a few close friends to join them at home. In fact, when asked about his perfect night out, Pattinson laughed and said, “Probably dinner and a movie, just the two of us.”
This tendency to keep things simple and streamlined is something that many of us can learn from. Though Hollywood may glamorize fame and fortune, the truth is that there is more to life than meets the eye. For those who want to balance professional and personal life more successfully, Pattinson’s story may be an inspiration.
