It’s been a tough year for Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart fans! After enjoying a passionate love affair for years, these two Hollywood stars have been at the center of a love triangle that’s seen them weather a number of controversies together.

With their on-screen characters, Elizabeth Taylor’s granddaughters Bella and Gigi, falling in love with the hunky Scottish actor during the filming of the 2014 film adaptation of the Diana novel, Twilight, it would seem that fate has conspired to deny us of our favorite celebrity couple’s future together. However, thanks to Twilight’s box office success and the power of love, the on-screen pair are back together once again.

But when did this reconciliation happen? And what are the latest newsworthy events that surrounded this most romantic of unions? Let’s take a look, shall we?

Long Ago In London

Back in 2007, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were already an established on-screen couple when they filmed Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part Two in London. The beautiful British actress, who plays Ginny Weasley in the film, shares her excitement about wrapping up the franchise’s seventh installment, in which she appears as a major player:

“I can’t believe we’re finally finishing [Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part Two]. It has been such an incredible experience and something I will forever be grateful for. The entire cast and crew have been absolute gems and I look forward to celebrating with our fans in London next year.”

This London-based filming dates back to August 2007, so it’s been four years since the last Harry Potter movie was shot down in England. In the interim, Stewart has continued to work regularly, and the couple have become an even more prominent fixture in the British film industry. In 2012, Stewart was even nominated for a BAFTA award for her role in the Danny Boyle-directed film, Tricky People.

Their Early Days In Film

Looking back to their film debut in the 2005 movie, The Break-Up, it would seem that Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart’s story began well before the days of Twilight. The young couple starred in Neil Jordan’s black comedy about a wannabe novelist who teams up with an artist to create a pornographic parody of The Great Gatsby. Watch a clip from The Break-Up featuring the beautiful actors:

Unfortunately, legal issues surrounding the unauthorized usage of the Taylor family’s likeness prevented the stars from capitalizing on their early success. In 2008, the American film studio, Summit Entertainment, filed a lawsuit against the two British actors, claiming that they had ‘pirated’ the popular ‘Taylor family’ by appearing in Twilight. Summit wanted compensation for the unauthorized use of its intellectual property and asked for damages to be assessed at up to $150,000 per violation. In 2013, Bella and Gigi, who were then 12 and 14 years old, were featured in the series finale of Twilight and the lawsuit was dropped. But the financial consequences of this ‘crime’ remained as Stewart and Pattinson were unable to work together for several months.

A Brief Romance

Four years after her legal battle with Summit, Stewart has finally found peace with the studio. The opportunity to work with her favorite actress, Meryl Streep, on the adaptation of Sophie Kinsella’s bestselling novel, The Undoing Project, provided her with the financial security to support her family and to reinvest in her future. For his part, Pattinson was offered a role in the 2014 Broadway musical, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, which offers a glimpse into the actor’s versatility and impressive range. When he is not working, the hunk enjoys traveling with his wife and daughter and spending time with his family. In the meantime, Twilight is still the highest-grossing film of all time, having made over $500 million worldwide, and both Pattinson and Stewart have gone on to enjoy successful acting careers. With so much support from their fanbase and a desire to remain working, it’s clear that this on-screen love story has been a well-deserved success.
