Tom Holland and Robert Pattinson are set to team up for the first time since 2011’s Burnt, with the duo’s first collaboration being a dramatized version of the author’s 1929 classic, The Lost City of Z. The film will be released on April 23, 2020.

The cast of the film was revealed on Tuesday with Daniel Wu (The Beast ) portraying the legendary writer, Kirby Goodman. The film also stars Sienna Guillory (TV’s Vikings ) and Harry Lloyd (Doctor Strange). Production on the adaptation began earlier this year with shooting taking place in London.

‘THE LOST CITY OF Z’

The story focuses on a New York City banker, Lionel Verne (Rourke), who travels to the Amazon to inspect the town of Z for a client, only to run into trouble when a tribe of indigenous people attack him. Finding himself caught between a rock and a hard place, Verne seeks help from a local tribe leader (Bruce), who then leads him to a legendary city hidden deep within the rainforest. The location of this “lost city” of Z is guarded by a tribe of warrior women, known as the Apokanya, who are terrified of outsiders. After a series of misunderstandings and misadventures, Verne teams up with scientist Stephen Gordon (Goodman) and photographer Franklin Sheehan (Pattinson) to locate the legendary city and bring back proof that it exists.

While the story concerns itself with a quest for truth, there are numerous references to fiction, including The Jungle Book, The Lost World, and Sinbad. The plot also draws inspiration from several epics, including The Thousand and One Nights and The Odyssey.
