When it was announced that Robert Pattinson would be playing the famous Hogwarts’ teacher, Professor Albus Dumbledore, in the latest installment of the ‘Harry Potter’ series, fans were over the moon.
Known for his bad boy image and his wild live, the ‘Good Time’ star has been able to live his best life as an actor thanks to his fame. Having recently wrapped filming on ‘Black Water’, the final part of the ‘Dark Arts’ trilogy, we take a look at how he has spent his time since the last ‘Potter’ movie, and consider what future projects he might find himself involved in.
The Last ‘Potter’ Movie
For those unaware, the ‘Harry Potter’ series was originally based on the best-selling book ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’ by J.K. Rowling. In the book, Dumbledore comes out of retirement to teach Harry one more time before he dies. After Dumbledore’s death, his good friend and former student, Professor Horace Slughorn, takes over as the school’s headmaster.
The final installment of the ‘Harry Potter’ series, ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2′, was directed by David Yates and released in 2011. At the time of its release, it was the longest ‘Potter’ movie yet, clocking in at a whopping three hours and forty minutes. It broke previous records for the biggest box office opening weekend (12.7 million in the U.S. alone) and the all-time highest score on the review aggregator, Rotten Tomatoes (92%). Despite positive word of mouth and endless praise, however, the film received relatively mediocre reviews. After three hours and forty minutes of action and adventure, audiences were left wanting more.
Filming ‘Black Water’
For those who were fortunate enough to see ‘Harry Potter’ when it was first released in 2011, the action-adventure-fantasy-romance film will be instantly recognizable. The movie revolves around a young boy’s obsession with the Dark Arts and his resulting journey to discover his true identity. Along the way, he befriends a band of similarly obsessed teenage witches and wizards who help him navigate the complexities of high school life.
The plot is pretty straightforward: after the demise of Lord Voldemort, his evil servant, The Goblet of Fire, is shattered and the wizarding world is at peace, Harry decides to seek out and destroy Voldemort’s remaining Horcruxes, artifacts created to hold a piece of Voldemort’s soul. In order to find the Horcruxes, Harry has to take on the persona of Ron Weasley, hide from the “Dementors’,” – as Voldemort’s followers are known – and navigate the complexities of school. Naturally, the film adaptation diverges quite a bit from the book. What we know for sure is that parts of the trilogy will be shot in Romania and Bulgaria in 2019.
From Bad Boy To Bachelor
While some may still be under the impression that Robert Pattinson is simply Mr. Beautiful’s charming sidekick, he has in fact transitioned quite well into fatherhood. After a series of unsuccessful relationships with a string of models, actresses and ‘glam’ girl friends, the ‘Twilight’ actor settled down with his wife, Eve, five years ago. Since then, he has never looked or acted more content. What’s next for the 43-year old? According to reports, he is looking to become a father for the third time. If rumors are to be believed, he will be welcoming a child with his wife in the near future.
Apart from parenthood, it seems that the actor is focusing on his career and spending more time with his family. In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, he revealed, “I try not to think about work too much. I’ve been lucky enough to do what I love for a living and I just want to make the most of it. I definitely also try to be a better father to my kids than their dad was…I want them to see a changed man.”
It seems like Robert Pattinson is well-aware of his image and the type of celebrity he has achieved. Despite all of this, he continues to strive for improvement and better roles, saying, “I don’t want to be an actor who just shows up for the paycheck. It’s not just about the money. It’s about enjoying the process of making people laugh or cry or feel something. That’s what’s important.” Well, that and making sure that his kids are still smiling when they grow up.
