The names Tyler Hoechlin and Robert Pattinson. You may not know them, but you’ve probably seen their work. Hoechlin plays the comic book hero The Grey, while Pattinson is most well known for his role as the dark and brooding vampire, Edward Cullen. Together, they form what seems to be an unofficial trilogy of off-screen heavy-hitters in the superhero world. Not only are they three of Hollywood’s biggest names in one room, but they’re also linked by more than just their work in the film industry. In 2015, it was discovered that Hoechlin is the son of actor Michael Hoechlin, who is best known for his role as Alfred Pennyworth in the Batman films. As well as being related to one of cinema’s most iconic characters, Hoechlin has also appeared alongside his father in many of the same films. In real life, Hoechlin’s career seems destined to rival his famous counterparts. In just a few years, he has already appeared in numerous high-profile films, in which he plays iconic characters, winning critical acclaim for his work. Hoechlin is probably best known for his role as the younger version of Alfred in the 2014 film adaptation of the mega-hit video game, Batman: Arkham Origins. In addition to his work in the movie industry, Hoechlin has also established himself as a television actor, appearing in numerous notable projects, both in the US and abroad. In 2018, he will star as the title character in the CBS-TV miniseries, John Luther, considered by many to be the definitive modern-day telling of the Gunpowder Plot. In real life, Hoechlin is incredibly passionate about history and has a strong interest in military affairs. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the American Institute for National Security Studies (AINS).

Allied Superheroes

Perhaps the most obvious connection between these three is their shared interest in all things related to warfare and military history. Each man has spent much of his life in and around military circles, and it seems their history with guns and armored cars has rubbed off on them. At the 2018 American Institute for National Security Studies (AINS) annual meeting in Washington, DC, Hoechlin was a speaker on a panel discussing the roots of World War II. During the panel, he emphasized the importance of learning history from the ground up, something he has often spoken about in the past. In 2017, Hoechlin narrated a historical documentary about the American Civil War called, The Civil War: Leader versus Leader, which focused on the life of Ulysses S. Grant. At the AINS 2018 annual meeting, he was a speaker on a panel discussing Latin America and the Cold War, and in 2016, Hoechlin narrated a documentary about the Vietnam War called, When We Were Young. In film, Hoechlin has played numerous characters with military involvement, including a German Shepherd and a Russian colonel, among others. In 2015, he narrated an episode of the History Channel series, Secrets of the Tomb, in which he explored the fascinating stories behind the mummies of the famous El Dehassan tomb in El Gharqeb, North Africa. The following year, Hoechlin had a supporting role in the fantasy adventure film, Dungeons & Dragons, in which he played the character, Magnus. Additionally, in 2016, he lent his voice to the popular video game, Fallout 4, as well as the sports game, FIFA 17.

Defined Man

Besides being a skilled and versatile actor, Hoechlin has also established himself as a skilled writer. While he is best known for his screenplays, he has also written the books, The Good Shepherd and On the Road to El Dorado. In the latter, he chronicled the travels of American author, John L. O’Connor, through Europe and North Africa in the 1920s. Hoechlin has also published an autobiography, titled, The Art of Fiction, which traces his creative process from start to finish.

Proud Alumni

For several years, Hoechlin has been the face of Piaget, the luxury Swiss watch brand. Since 2017, he has served as the brand’s brand ambassador, appearing in various materials, including print, video, and on social media platforms. In the same year, he also became the face of Montblanc, the luxury Swiss watch brand. The following year, he became the face of Diesel, the Italian luxury car brand, appearing in various materials, including print, social media, and video. In 2021, Hoechlin will represent Montblanc and Diesel in their joint marketing campaign, which will see the actor star in multiple commercials and publications.

Besides these brand representations, Hoechlin has appeared in numerous other TV commercials, including for AIG and Nationwide. In 2019, he had a supporting role in the Marvel Studios film, Black Widow, which is set for release in April.

The Future

In 2021, Hoechlin will star in the CBS-TV miniseries, John Luther, which is set for release in the fall of that year. The series follows the titular character, John Luther, who is played by actor Tyler Hoechlin. It is considered by many to be the definitive modern-day telling of the Gunpowder Plot. Hoechlin will star as the title character in the series, which is based on the 1939 best-selling historical novel, By Order of King George, by H. Montgomery Stockbridge.

While he has yet to establish himself as a major force in the music world, Hoechlin has released several well-regarded EPs, as well as an album, with his band, The Little Horsemen. In the past few years, he has become increasingly involved in the worlds of art and design, participating in exhibitions in Paris and New York City, among others. In 2020, Hoechlin designed a painting for the Gagosian Gallery in New York City, which was sold for an undisclosed sum of money. The following year, he became the face of Leucothea, a French luxury swimwear brand, and in 2021, he will star in a short film, titled, The Sea, which will explore environmentalism through the lens of art.
