Welcome to our week-long coverage of the Twilight Summit! We are diving deep into the workings of this year’s edition and bringing you all the key happenings. From exclusive interviews to on-the-ground coverage, we have you covered. And to make sure you don’t miss a single bit of the action, we’re even bringing you daily videos from the main events.
Who Is Rob Pattinson’s Brother?
If you’re not familiar, Rob Pattinson is the brother of actors Kate and Rebekah. He is also the grandson of legendary British director Alfred L. Whitchurch.
Kate and Rebekah were born and raised in London, while Rob was raised in Los Angeles. The family has a very large and active social media following, with over 3.5 million followers between the two accounts Twitter (@thekateandreb) and Instagram (@kateandrebekah).
Since their breakout roles in 2010’s The Twilight Saga: New Moon, Kate and Rebekah have established themselves as major players in their native land. While they have been active in films and on television since then, it was the success of Twilight that put them on the map.
What Do They Know About The Summit And Twilight?
Since we’re only into the second day of the conference and already have some interesting tidbits, let’s start with what the brothers know about the Summit. As we’ve established, this year’s Twilight Summit will be the first in-person meeting between members of the Cullen family and the Pattinson siblings.
While the family members have never seen each other before — let alone speaking to one another — they do have some interesting connections. In addition to being raised in the same household, Alfred L. Whitchurch was also a childhood friend of Kate and Rebekah’s father. Alfred and the director starred in the 1958 film The Boy and the Beast as brothers and, as it happens, the film is now available for digital viewing. If you’ve never seen it, it’s a tale of rivalry between two fathers for the affections of their young son. There’s also the matter of Robert Pattinson’s fianceé (and sister of Kate and Rebekah), Dakota Fanning. While she may not be at the Summit, Fanning’s presence is nonetheless felt there as she was one of the main organizers of the event. This may also explain why Alfred L. Whitchurch is one of the first people the brothers encounter. It would appear that everyone is here to make sure that the Summit is a memorable event.
More Familiar Faces
While not quite as famous as their famous cousin, Robert Pattinson has become quite the star in his own right. Between 2014 and 2018, his film Glass earned him a considerable amount of praise. The film is about a man who deals in antique glassware and has a strong connection to the theme of Transcendence, the 2014 Twilight film in which he starred. That film was a critical and commercial failure but did inspire considerable interest in glassware. As a result, several stores’ worth of glassware were sold after the film’s premiere.
The actor is also known for his role as Cedric Diggory in the Harry Potter series. Perhaps most notably, he played the part of William Shakespeare in the 2016 film adaptation of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. The movie was a critical and commercial success and, at the box office, was the highest-grossing film directed by a British actor.
Is This Year’s Summit Different?
Let’s move on to the more interesting question of whether or not this year’s Twilight Summit is a once-a-year event or if it will become an annual meeting. Based on what we’ve seen so far, it appears the latter is the case. While we know that both Kate and Rebekah will be at the Summit and that they will be meeting with the other family members for the first time, it’s not yet clear if this will be the first or the last time the siblings will come together.
The Summit appears to be a significant event for the cast and crew of Twilight. While we’re still waiting to see if there will be any more familiar faces arriving this afternoon, there has already been plenty of activity. So far, we’ve seen a number of stars arriving for the event, including: Anna Friel, Rupert Graves, and Dougray Scott.
We’ll have more as the day progresses but, for now, it’s time to go make some new connections!
