Robert Pattinson is one of the most beloved actors of our time. He is best known for his leading role in the Twilight franchise; however, his acting career has spanned several decades. In fact, the English actor’s repertoire contains some of the most beloved films of all time.
The star’s latest project, a black-and-white historical drama titled Good Time, recently hit theaters and proved to be a critical and commercial success. Directed by Shane Black, the film is a prequel to their 1987 cult classic, Lethal Weapon. The movie follows Roger Murtaugh (Pattinson), a detective who partners with Mel Gibson’s character to solve a string of brutal murders.
While the movie is set in Los Angeles in the ’70s, it wasn’t exactly shot in a L.A. studio. Instead, the production chose to shoot in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, which shares the same layout as the studio where the original Lethal Weapon was made. Therefore, the crew and the actors had to learn their lines while driving, working in tandem with the camera operators to achieve a natural look.
The Trailer For Good Time Is Absolutely Rife With Meaningful Quotes And Important Details
Despite being just over an hour and a half long, the trailer for Good Time packs in a lot of information about the film and the actors’ experiences making it.
The trailer opens with a quote from the French philosopher Voltaire (1694-1778): “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.” Indeed, the trailer makes it abundantly clear that even if you don’t like what the characters in Good Time say, you should still respect their right to say it. The quote appears to be a reference to the American Revolution, which officially began in the 1780s and resulted in the United States of America as we know it today. In other words, the trailer is setting the scene for a war between the English and the Americans (with some help from the French).
The Trailer Highlights Robert Pattinson’s Transformative Performance
The trailer for Good Time does an excellent job of highlighting Robert Pattinson’s pivotal performance as Roger Murtaugh. Even if you haven’t seen the film yet, you’ll know exactly who Roger is based on the excellent portrayal in the trailer. In fact, Roger is arguably one of the greatest antiheroes in film history. He is a man of few words but of immense moral courage. To the dismay of his English co-workers, he openly defies his superior and stubbornly defends the weak and the disenfranchised.
The trailer shows us that despite being best known for his comedic roles in the Harry Potter films, Christian Bale is actually a very good actor. In the case of Good Time, Bale brings his A-game and puts in a valiant performance as the baddie, Max Cherry. However, it is Roger’s character that really steals the spotlight. Pattinson imbues the character with so much complexity that it would be hard to believe that the character is essentially the same person who appears in Lethal Weapon. In short, it is safe to say that Roger is a womanizing rogue in Lethal Weapon, and he remains exactly the same in Good Time, albeit with a lot more hair and some weight gain.
If you’ve seen one trailer, you’ve seen them all: They always play it safe and avoid giving too much away. However, the trailer for Good Time does dole out a few teasers about the plot and the characters in the film. Here’s what we know so far:
Good Time Will Rewrite The History Of Lethal Weapons
The trailer opens with a short clip of Roger, in full police uniform, sitting at a desk marked with the LAPD logo. While the clip is quick and to the point, it does provide us with some important details about the film. First, Roger is a police officer. Second, the film takes place in the 1970s. Third, the main character’s last name is clearly Murtaugh. Last but not least, the movie is set in Los Angeles and will feature cameos by some of cinema’s most iconic stars.
All of these tidbits are confirmed in the full theatrical trailer. In addition, we also get to see some clips of Mel Gibson and Danny DeVito working together again after almost 20 years. It will be interesting to see how much the two have aged since their days in Lethal Weapon. While most of the footage in the trailer is rather tasteful (and likely staged), it does shed some light on the film. The footage is intercut with some clips from the original Lethal Weapon, which help establish the historical context of the film. In other words, the footage serves as a brief history lesson that offers some important clues about the events that will unfold in Good Time.
The Movie Is Rife With More Sexy Cameos From Some Of Hollywood’s Most Iconic Actresses
What’s a good trailer if not filled with sexy cameos from some of Hollywood’s most iconic actresses? The trailer for Good Time is chock-full of them and we couldn’t be more excited. After all, who doesn’t love a good celebrity cameo?
The trailer opens with an appearance by the stunning Salma Hayek. The actress dons a wedding dress and gives us a peek at her wedding ring. We then cut to a shot of Hayek in a revealing dress and heels running through a field of flowers. The actress looks like a goddess as she runs toward the camera. The scene is eerily reminiscent of a similar scene in the original Scarface. Next, we see a shot of Reese Witherspoon in a sheer black dress. The actress is laughing as she speaks with an unidentified person on the phone. It is clear that the movie is going to have plenty of heart-achingly beautiful scenes and lots of laughter too. It will be interesting to see how Witherspoon’s character fits into the scheme of things.
Will The Original Lethal Weapon Cast Reunite For This Film?
One of the most exciting aspects of Good Time is that several of the film’s characters from the original Lethal Weapon will make cameo appearances. In fact, the trailer even confirms that the main characters from the original movie will indeed appear. While a few of the English actors have aged somewhat gracefully, it’s clear that they have not changed a bit since their days on set more than 30 years ago. It will be interesting to see if they can still act like heroes while their hair grows thin.
Perhaps the most exciting development for fans of the original is that Danny DeVito will be appearing in Good Time. The appearance of the iconic comedian will undoubtedly cause many Lion King fans to shed a tear. After all, DeVito was the voice of both King Julien and Puffball King in the 2017 animated film. It will be interesting to see if DeVito’s character in Good Time is going to be based on either of those roles.
Overall, the footage in the trailer is extremely intriguing. Despite being nearly two hours long, it doesn’t feel like a double-length teaser. Instead, it plays like a feature-length movie, complete with a mostly un-edited version of the famous opening credit sequence. For those who may be wondering what all the fuss is about, this definitely isn’t the case. We promise that this is just the trailer and there are no cliffhangers. So maybe go out and buy a ticket now…if you haven’t already.
