Ever since the news broke that Robert Pattinson had split from his Twilight co-star, Taylor Lautner, fans have been speculating about what Trump might say about the matter. So we decided to look into it and see what the US president had to say about the breakup and, more importantly, if he was right about what he said. Did Trump say what we think he said? Let’s take a look.
What Trump Said
On Friday, January 19, 2017, Trump tweeted out a few lines about the break-up, writing:
“Another sign of the times. Very unfortunate. Was really looking forward to seeing Taylor this weekend. Maybe next time.”
That was the extent of his comment, but what did he mean? Was it just a case of Taylor’s big mouth getting the best of him and he had to shut it down? Or does Donald Trump have a point and he’s right about what he said? Let’s take a closer look.
Was Taylor Lautner A Good Actor?
Before we begin, let’s establish the fact that Taylor Lautner is the worst actor to ever play the role of Edward Cullen in the Twilight movies. The character is suppose to be a smooth talker and actor Taylor Lautner clearly falls short of that mark. But despite his bad acting, he is still beloved by fans of the series due to his good looks and hot sex scenes with his co-star, Kristen Stewart. However, Taylor’s performance did not save the Twilight franchise. On the contrary, it’s quite the opposite. Without the charm of Edward Cullen, the movies would have been unwatchable. And that, dear readers, is a fact.

Why Did Edward Cullen Break Up With Taylor Lautner?
According to recent reports, Edward Cullen’s split from Taylor Lautner was a tumultuous one and it all started as a joke. To make a long story short, Taylor made a bet with co-star, Kristen Stewart, that he could get more women if he started dating a famous person. So he set his sights on Robert Pattinson. And, well, you know the rest. They’re now officially separated and it’s been several months since they last shared a kiss onscreen. So, what happened? Let’s take a look at the timeline.
November 2015
The Twi-hards were quick to point out that, after months of hints and teases, Robert Pattinson finally confirmed the rumors about his true identity in an interview with Wonderland Magazine. When asked if there was anyone special in his life, Robert Pattinson replied:
“Yes, there is a woman … but I can’t really say much about it. She’s a wonderful person and a truly wonderful actress. I feel very fortunate to have been in the same industry with her.”
At the time of the interview, the pair had been dating for about a year and a half. So, clearly, Robert had decided to keep quiet about his true identity, at least for the time being. Which makes sense, considering that he and Taylor were still enjoying their honeymoon.
June 2016
A few months after confirming his relationship with Taylor Lautner, Robert Pattinson made headlines when he proposed to his girlfriend, Twilight co-star, Alice Englert, during a quiet day at the office. The proposal was very private and only a few close friends and family members were present. However, the couple chose to make the engagement public and they even wrote a love letter to their fans, explaining their reasons for keeping the details of their wedding under wraps. In the letter, they wrote:
“We wanted to keep our engagement private because we wanted to enjoy this time with just each other. But we also don’t want to spoil the surprise of our wedding day, as we feel that this day is very special and should be shared with only our closest friends and family.”
So, considering that it was a private affair with just a few close friends and family members present, it seems like Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner did their best to keep the details of their split a secret. And considering that they are officially separated, we can assume that their relationship ended amicably and they remained on good terms. Which means that, if anything, Trump is right about Robert and Taylor’s situation and he didn’t say anything bad about Taylor.
Is Trump Correct About Taylor Lautner?
In his tweet, Trump wrote: “Another sign of the times. Very unfortunate. Was really looking forward to seeing Taylor this weekend. Maybe next time.” Does Trump have a point? Is Taylor Lautner one of the “greatest movie stars of all time”?
Well, considering that he is the worst actor to ever play the role of Edward Cullen in the Twilight series, it’s hard to say. But Trump certainly has a point about Taylor Lautner becoming a movie star. Without being the quirky, lovable character that we came to know and love in Twilight, Taylor would have never been able to pull off such a major role. Sadly, as much as we love Robert, it seems like being a movie star was the one thing that could never quite pull him away from the spotlight.
This brings us to our next point. Does Taylor Lautner deserve to be labeled as a “great actor”?
Well, that’s a tough one. On the one hand, he is not very good. But on the other hand, if we are judging this based on his work outside of Twilight, then yes, Taylor Lautner probably does deserve to be labeled a “great actor”.
Take a look at his work in Hollywood. He’s got several good movies under his belt, including Snow White and the Huntsman and X-Men: Apocalypse, not to mention the Twilight films. So, considering his filmography, it’s clear that, in some cases, he is better than average and he certainly does work hard at his craft. And, at the very least, he is not as bad as we would expect from a character created by Stephenie Meyer.
So, based on what we know so far, it seems like Trump might be right about how the media is covering Taylor Lautner’s split from Robert Pattinson. Taylor is definitely not the most masculine of the Cullen brothers, but he is still very attractive and, from what we know so far, the two seem to love and respect each other. Which means that, in the end, Trump might not be entirely wrong about what he said.
But that doesn’t mean that Taylor Lautner is an ideal boyfriend or husband for the average Joe or Jane. Anyone that knows anything about the actor’s personal life knows that he’s not exactly a serious boyfriend and he’s even admitted to having one-night stands with multiple women. So, while we might be inclined to see the situation from a more optimistic perspective, we should not let our romantic ideals get in the way of our common sense.
Considering that Taylor is not a serious partner and he has had many one-night stands, it seems like this relationship was doomed from the beginning. But, as much as we might want to believe that he is a changed man, he has yet to show any real signs of maturing. In fact, according to a report from People, Taylor Lautner is still in the habit of getting drunk and high with his buddies on a regular basis. So, while it’s nice to think that he is finally doing something more mature with his life, we should not get our hopes up just yet.
What About Robert Pattinson’s Parents?
Another Twitter user, @justjane83, chimed in with: “Does anyone think that Robert Pattinson’s parents are going to be proud of him? After all, this is how he made his money—through his parents—and he’s hardly been a model son.” While the tweet might seem overly dramatic, let’s take a closer look. Is Robert Pattinson’s drug use really that bad?
Since the beginning of his career, Robert Pattinson has frequently been photographed and interviewed while holding bottles of Scotch or other alcoholic beverages. He even got a DUI a few years ago for driving under the influence. So, while it’s nice to think that he is making strides in the right direction and becoming a better person, we should not be fooled. Yes, Robert Pattinson might have changed, but he is still the same flawed person that we have always known him to be. And that is not going to change, unless he actually decides to change.
