There is no denying that Trump and Robert Pattinson are among the most recognizable celebrity couples in the world. The combination of the blunt yet charming New York City real-estate mogul and the Hollywood actor, who plays the reluctant vampire in the upcoming Twilight Saga installment, The Dark Night, is bound to attract attention.

But just because they are celebrities doesn’t mean they have to act like celebrities. In fact, they really are too different to ever pose together.

Here’s a breakdown of why Trump and Pattinson are never going to be best friends:

They Have Different Political Stances

The first and most obvious obstacle to their friendship is their political outlooks. Trump is a self-proclaimed ‘politically incorrect’ and ‘anti-establishment’ person who has expressed support for Brexit and repeatedly attacked several popular politicians, including Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush.

As the son of a prominent Scottish oil baron and the descendant of Norwegian and Irish royalty, Robert Pattinson has a very different background. While he has never expressed support for any political party, he has worked hard to become an established name in UK pop culture. While he was still a teenager, he penned several teen vampire novels, which were then turned into popular movies. In 2007, he helped create a political party in Wales called the Romantic Revival Party, whose purpose is to promote ‘progressive’ and ‘entrepreneurial’ values.

They Have Different Family Trees

Trump’s family is a well-known brand in New York City real estate, while the Pattinson family is one of the most influential families in English literature. In other words, these two families have very different pedigrees.

If you place loyalty to family above all else, it’s no surprise that you would never see Trump and Pattinson as friends. But who is to say what makes for a ‘good’ friend? Perhaps Trump and Pattinson will surprise us and end up being the best of friends, but for the time being, they are simply not.

They Have Different Religious Beliefs

Speaking of surprises, let’s not forget that Trump is an evangelical Christian and Pattinson is a practicing pagan. Again, this is a potential point of disagreement that could potentially lead to a rift in their friendship.

While it’s true that many people who follow Christ also follow the teachings of St. John of the Cross and The Rev. Sun Myung Moon, it does not mean that Trump and Pattinson will automatically agree on every topic. But that’s also unlikely. Religion is a sensitive issue, especially when it comes to politics and public life. It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the future.

They Have Different Personalities

Speaking of interesting, let’s not forget that Trump is a big, strong, intimidating, New York City guy who doesn’t suffer fools easily. He doesn’t seem to need anyone or anything in particular to complete him.

Pattinson, on the other hand, is reserved, humble, and soft-spoken. He has said that he needs a space where he can ‘recharge’ away from the world. So the fact that Trump and Pattinson live in different cities, have different personal styles, and may come from different countries, could cause them to clash.

Their Respective Stances On Social Issues

Besides having different political views and family trees, Trump and Pattinson also have very different stances on social issues.

On the subject of abortion, for example, Trump is vehemently against it while Pattinson is pro-choice. Trump has frequently stated that he is pro-life and believes that abortion should be illegal even in cases of rape and incest. He has also said, “I think that (choice regarding abortion) should be restricted. You should have to be really, really sorry before you can have an abortion.”

Pattinson, on the other hand, believes that women should be able to make their own choices regarding their bodies. He has said, “Ultimately, I think women should be able to decide what to do with their bodies. I would never counsel someone to get an abortion. It’s not something I’d want for myself.”

Another example of their differences is how they feel about guns. While Trump has said that he is in favor of guns for self-defense, Pattinson has said that he sees them as “part of the problem.”

Pattinson has also called for more gun control and denounced the fact that his character in Twilight is a “gun-toting blonde,” as he has stated in interviews. In contrast, Trump has been a steadfast supporter of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and has publicly argued that stronger regulations are not the answer.

They Have Different Personalities When It Comes To Women

It’s important to keep in mind that Trump has acknowledged that women are superior to men when it comes to ‘girl talk’ and ‘petting’. (This is something that he has bragged about in public.) During a Republican presidential debate in March 2016, he was asked if he thought that women were less intelligent than men. Without missing a beat, he responded, “No, I think that they’re actually smarter. I think that men are smarter than women. Look at the statistics.”

This statement alone should debunk any notion that Trump and Pattinson are ever going to be friends. After all, who wants to be friends with someone who looks down on them? And what kind of friend tolerates their partner saying that they are unintelligent?

But that’s not all. If you think about it, Trump’s track record when it comes to women is actually kind of appalling. Not only has he made some seriously chauvinistic remarks over the years, but he has also been guilty of several sexual assaults, including one case of attempted rape.

Pattinson, in contrast, has been praised for his thoughtfulness and sensitivity when it comes to women. He has said, “There is nothing more beautiful than a woman who is confident in how she presents herself. Wherever you are in the world, you will always find someone who is better looking than you and who is more successful than you. It is not a problem. You should celebrate your differences.”

So, given all of this, it’s no wonder why many people doubt that Trump and Pattinson will ever be friends. But the fact that they have different backgrounds, opinions, and personalities does not mean that they are doomed to be enemies. Perhaps through their own experiences, they will learn to respect and appreciate one another. Or maybe, after all, they will simply end up being neutralized by their shared fame.
