Robert Pattinson’s real name is Robin Harvey. The British actor’s full name is Robin Harvey Lewis. Born in London, England on September 4, 1980, the 37-year-old actor grew up in a big Catholic family. He has three sisters and a brother. At the age of four, he began attending school regularly, eventually entering St. Mary’s College, where he studied English literature, history, and philosophy. In addition to school, he spent time playing sports, including rugby, cricket, and football. In 2003, he graduated from university with a degree in economics.

After college, he worked as a stockbroker between 2003 and 2005, during which time he attended the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and the Webber Douglas School of Dramatic Art. He also spent a year studying at the New York University’s School of Film and Television, where he focused on improvisational comedy. In 2007, he made his professional acting debut in the musical comedy-drama, Lucky Fred, at the Royal National Theatre in London. Since then, he has appeared in many British and international films and TV shows. Most notably, he starred in the box office hit, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 and its prequel, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1. The following year, he appeared in the fantasy adventure, The Road, alongside Bill Nighy and Tom Hollander. In 2010, he portrayed Prince John in Ridley Scott’s historical epics, Robin Hood and its sequel, The Man with the Golden Gun. In 2013, he starred in the dystopian science fiction film, The Rover. That same year, he began portraying the tragic adventurer, Dick Grayson, in the highly anticipated and critically acclaimed DC Comics film, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Shortly after the release of Batman v Superman, Variety revealed that the actor was set to star in a series of mystery-adventure films entitled The Gatsby Project. The first film in the series, titled The Riddle, premiered in theaters on May 5, 2017. In the film, Pattinson plays the role of Charlie Andrews, a photographer who goes on a quest to discover the identity of a beautiful woman (played by Kristen Stewart). To solve the mystery, he enlists the help of two detectives—Jack Griffin (Luke Evans) and Amy Griffin (Carrie Coates)—as well as a pair of brothers named Theo (Tom Sturridge) and Hunter (Alexander Kapaadi). While in Budapest for publicity purposes, the actor revealed how he got the role, what his personal life is like, and what he expects from the audience.

Getting The Riddler Role

Pattinson admitted that he didn’t expect to land a role in The Riddle. He said that a few months before the film’s premiere, he got a call from the producers of the film. They told him that Stewart had dropped out of the project and that they needed another female lead. At the time, he was already committed to star in the thriller, Badlapath—he had just finished shooting in Budapest and was about to begin production in Ireland. With just a few days to find a new actress, he decided to cast a professional actress who had already worked in films. He recalled, “I went through my Rolodex and pulled out my contacts in L.A. I didn’t know how many actresses I was actually going to go for, but I knew it was going to be someone amazing.”

Pattinson contacted the production company and arranged to meet with them in person. He was told that the meeting would be a casual affair and that he would not be asked to sign any papers. At the end of the meeting, the producer gave him a business card with the name Kristen Stewart written on it. He said that he didn’t know much about Stewart but that she had been in the news a lot. He gave the card to his manager, who happened to be traveling with him at the time, and asked her if she knew who the woman was. She confirmed that it was Stewart and said that she would research her further.

The following day, Pattinson’s manager called him with the details of Stewart’s professional biography. She said that Stewart was born in Temecula, California, raised in Marietta, Georgia, and began her career as a child actress in Toronto, Canada. He was impressed by her Canadian accent and asked if she remembered any of her filmography. She then recited a few lines from her acting projects, including a scene from the 2006 film, Into the Woods, in which she starred alongside Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Alec Baldwin. After listening to her recite the scene, Pattinson decided to give Stewart a call. The next day, he received a call from the production company, who told him that they were still interested in making The Riddle but that they needed to move forward quickly. Despite being committed to another project, he decided to join the cast.

Personal Life

Pattinson is happily married to his wife, Fanny. The actress, who is three years younger than her husband, helped him to find the perfect engagement ring. The couple’s daughter, Luna, was born in September 2014. His wife’s acting career began with several minor roles in British television shows, including Lip Service and Midsomer Murders, before she gained more prominence in the 2016 Emmy and BAFTA-winning series, Dark. In 2018, she starred alongside Elle MacLeman in the horror comedy, Deadpool 3.

Pattinson, who has called himself “more of a family man,” spends his off-screen time with his wife and daughter. He enjoys playing in the dirt with his children and has often jokingly referred to himself as a “father-son bond” with his daughter. He is close with his family and has often been photographed holding hands with his wife or daughter. Despite the family man image, he has admitted to being jealous of his wife’s close relationship with her friends, particularly her acting coach, Emma Watson. He has also spoken openly about his love for literature and the literary world, particularly the works of William Shakespeare.

The Riddler In Literature

The literary world has produced many works inspired by the life of Robin Harvey (later, Robin Harvey Lewis). The character’s first name is a reference to the writer and poet, and Robin Harvey’s great uncle, Harvey Harvey. His last name is a reference to the famous detective, Sherlock Holmes. In 2007, a biography of Sherlock Holmes was published, titled simply, Sherlock Holmes, by Max Arthur. In the book, the great detective’s brilliant mind is attributed to the fact that he was a “self-made man,” a title that Sherlock Holmes applied to himself. In the following year, a collection of short stories titled, The Return of Sherlock Holmes, was published, written by various authors, including Arthur Conan Doyle and John Higgs. Many of the stories feature Sherlock Holmes’ greatest mystery solvee, the legendary Pinkerton Detective Agency, and various cases that they handled in the early 20th century. The stories are an anthology, with some stories being set in earlier times and others being set in the present day. Many of the stories refer to real-life figures and events, including the sinking of the Titanic, the assassination of President Lincoln, and the Panama Canal Crisis. In 2016, HarperCollins released a collection of Sherlock Holmes short stories, titled, The Complete Short Stories of Sherlock Holmes, featuring an introduction by Martin Scorsese and featuring an illustration by Tim Brawn. The anthology, which also features material by other renowned authors, such as Bram Stoker, William S. Baring, and Pierre Louboutin, was ranked #8 on Booklist’s Top 10 Summer Books for Young Readers list.
