While most people were still getting over the fright of the last few weeks, it was already being talked about that the best part of the summer holiday was yet to come. On 17th of June the world was blessed with the news that beloved British actor and comedian, Robert Pattinson and his new love, singer-songwriter, Zoe Kravitz were going to tie the knot. The couple had already begun planning their wedding and eloped at the end of May. The press had a field day, with many publications dedicating special covers and splashy spreads to the story. People could not get enough, and the phrase ‘bromance’, as we know it today, was coined in the media.

The story began with Robert Pattinson having announced his engagement to long-time partner and creative director of his Twillight Films, Zoe Kravitz, after meeting on the set of his latest film, The Batman. The actor had recently wrapped shooting on the eagerly anticipated The Batman, which is set for release in July 2019. After spending three years working together on the franchise, Pattinson and Kravitz were finally given the formal blessing to wed. Over the course of 17 years, the actor has become one of the most well-known and respected actors of our time, known for his roles in big-budget Hollywood blockbusters, such as the Twilight Saga, and in small independent films, such as Pattinson’s directorial debut, Beautiful People. He’s even been nominated for an Academy Award, for Best Supporting Actor, a BAFTA and a Golden Globe.

The Batman Film

The Batman is the first film in the recently relaunched, cinematic universe of the Dark Knight, which began with the hugely successful and award-winning Batman Begins in 2005. The film will be the fifth entry in the series and will mark the Hollywood debut of Matt Reeves, director of Cloverfield, The Matrix and Letters From the Universe. The first four films in the series were directed by the acclaimed Christopher Nolan and are considered among the greatest comic book adaptations of all time. The actor who plays Bruce Wayne/Batman, Robert Pattinson, also starred in the earlier films, and will reprise his role for The Batman. Production on the film began in February 2019, with shooting taking place across London, and included famous landmarks, like Buckingham Palace and the Tower of London.

The actor will next be seen in the upcoming Godzilla movie, as well as the upcoming Charlie’s Angels sequel, Angels Over London, and will continue to film The Batman until the end of June. His other upcoming projects include the spy thriller, Hydro, and the drama, Pattinson. On the small screen, he’s also set to star alongside Jason Bateman and Annie Mumolo in the comedy, The Big Bad Bunny. He’s also set to host and executive produce the upcoming Netflix series, The Nineties.

An Accessible And Sassy Gal

There aren’t too many actors who can pull off being both gorgeous and funny, but 27-year-old Zoe Kravitz can. She’s been compared to a cross between Grace Kelly and Marjorie Merriweather Post, the Duchess of Windsor due to her classic good looks and air of distinction. Kravitz is a singer-songwriter, originally from New York City, who moved to London to join the British music scene. She co-wrote and co-produced the Grammy-nominated album, Dirty Love, which featured artists like Sia and Troye Sivan. She subsequently released her debut single, ‘Galaxy’.

The song was a huge hit in the UK and across Europe, but even more so in Australia, where it went all the way to number one. It became her first top-ten single in that country. She returned in 2018 with her second single, ‘Sober,’ which once again found success around the world. The song was her biggest hit in the UK, where it became her second top-ten single. It also reached number one in Australia.

It’s not just her music that makes her stand out, either. Kravitz has an incredible voice and can sing any song, even those sung by women. She is also an accomplished dancer, having trained at New York City Ballet. In an interview with Playboy, Kravitz revealed that she had been dating British actor and comedian, Robert Pattinson, for almost a year. The couple had kept their relationship a secret until earlier this year, when they decided to make it public. Since then, they’ve been inundated with international press, especially in the UK, where they were pictured on the front cover of many, many magazines. When asked about the attention the couple has received, Kravitz said: “I think it’s pretty cool, actually. When we first started this relationship, we didn’t really talk about our careers. We just wanted to focus on what was happening between us. It was only when we realized how famous we were becoming that we started thinking about how our careers might intertwine.”

The Elopement

It was previously reported that the couple had planned to wed in August 2019, but given the current pandemic, that date was postponed. Ultimately, they chose to get married at the end of May, with media reports confirming that the wedding took place at the London flat of the bride’s parents, in the presence of only a few family members and friends. The couple had previously told Vogue that they were influenced by the royal wedding of William and Kate, and decided to emulate it, only on a smaller scale.

The ceremony was held at the bride’s family’s residence in Earls Court, with guests invited to the intimate celebration being her dad, Simon Kravitz, and stepmom, Lisa Marie, along with Robert Pattinson and Kravitz. The couple had previously hosted a wedding dress fittings at the renowned department store, Harvey Nichols, with the wedding party taking place in London’s famous Westminster Cathedral.

Many had thought that the pandemic would put a stop to celebrity weddings, but despite concerns about whether or not the couple’s first dance would go ahead as planned, the ceremony was celebrated as planned, with the couple showing off their affection for each other and their guests, as well as posing for the cameras that lined the streets outside the church in the capital.

The Invitations

The couple’s wedding invitations were designed by Australian fashion label, Elle MacLeman. They feature the logo for the Dark Knight series and the quote, “For Batman, it’s never just about avenging evil; he sees himself as a defender of ordinary people, fighting for truth, justice, and the British way.”

According to a report in the New York Times, the couple were inspired by old-school Hollywood movies and decided to have a ‘classic’ Hollywood wedding, only on a smaller scale. They also wanted to include a mix of old and new, and decided to incorporate elements of both their careers in the designing of their invitations.

The invitations were printed on luxe paper stock by Damiani, featuring a drawstring bag on a gold cord, with an embossed logo of Bruce Wayne on the front.

The Reception

The reception took place at the Café des Artistes in London. It was there that the famous English bride and groom signed and inscribed their menus, which were on display for guests to sign. The wedding cake was a three-tiered creation, covered in edible gold leaf, and was made by the renowned English bakery, Claridges. After the ceremony, the couple enjoyed a private dinner at their nearby hotel, The Metropole, followed by a reception at the Café des Artistes. The event concluded with a trip to Pizza Express, for those who were feeling peckish, and the signing of more menus.

A Grand Day

Overall, it was a wonderful day, capped off with a blissful night that produced a baby boy, River Tamarack Weldon, who was born early in the morning on 24th of June. The baby weighed in at a healthy 7 pounds, 9 ounces and was 19 inches long. His parents were over the moon and very proud of their son. The next day, Robert Pattinson and Zoe Kravitz posted adorable videos of their baby boy on their social media accounts.

The couple will now begin the challenging job of adjusting to life as a married couple. Despite the pandemic, they’ve committed to public appearances, with the latest news being that they will attend San Diego Comic-Con, for the world premiere of The Batman. While many were initially saddened by the postponement of the wedding, the couple have been overwhelmed by the level of support they’ve received from fans around the world. In the words of the New York Times, “It’s been a truly incredible time. We’ve had fan mail from all over the world, with people saying that this kind of celebration has meant a lot to them.”
