Forbes has released its annual rankings of the most popular movie and TV characters of 2015, and this year, Hollywood’s caped crusader came in at number five, just behind Thomas Wayne, the grandfather of Batman’s archenemy, Bane.
No surprises there. While it’s not yet been confirmed whether or not Robert Pattinson will don the iconic black and blue suit in the upcoming 2016 movie, Batman Returns, it’s pretty safe to assume that he’ll look incredibly dashing in it. Having just wrapped up a massive world tour with David Beckham, we thought it fitting to take a look back at the year that was and at the cultural phenomena that was Robert Pattinson.
The Year of R-Pattz
While he’s been in the spotlight for years, it wasn’t until this year that Robert Pattinson became the face of a movement. Following a massive world tour with his band, the Twilight Saga: New Moon cast, Robert was named the most fashionable man of 2015 by Vogue Australia and placed sixth on Elle UK’s annual list of Most Stylish Men of 2015.
On January 13, 2015, after months of speculation and a fair amount of fan backlash, it was finally confirmed that Robert was dating Victoria’s Secret angel, Bella Hadid. Though dating a famous supermodel might put him in the eyes of the public, it was just another step in Robert’s evolution as a style icon.
Biking To Work
In September 2014, in an interview with Grazia, Bella Hadid shared that she and Robert met while on holiday in Montenegro and that they started dating soon after. The couple were subsequently spotted driving around in a vintage car—Bella’s old stomping grounds—and were later spotted biking to work together. It wouldn’t be the first time that Robert had used his famous charm to get what he wants. In 2010, he famously called off a romantic relationship with Emily Blunt after they’d been dating for just over a year. Reportedly, when Blunt found out that Robert had broken up with her, she “went into a mini-coma,” according to the New York Post.
Redesigning Classic Pieces
While the public may know Robert from his Twilight and Vampire Diaries roles, it wasn’t until this year that he made a name for himself as a stylish stylish man. In fact, it was during an appearance on the Graham Norton Show in 2015 that Robert launched the “Robert Pattinson Collection”, a capsule wardrobe that he designed especially for him. The collection is made up of classic, elegant pieces that are perfect for a night out or an afternoon at the office. The most notable piece in the collection is the dress, a red example of which can be seen above. The designer said that the outfit is representative of his “attitude towards life” and that he wears it whenever he feels like “having a bit of a laugh.”
Award-Winning Beauty
Named after one of the most recognizable women in the world, Mina, the Mina A.M. Morrison Bridge —commonly known as the “Franklin Bridge”—in Philadelphia literally connects the city to the countryside and serves as a symbol of the community’s and the country’s pride. This year, the iconic bridge was officially renamed the “Mina Morrison Bridge” to commemorate Mina’s 86th birthday, which was in February 2015. In the country that she helped to found, Mina became the first female mayor in 1907. In 2015, she was the subject of a Google Doodle, which was also celebrating her birthday that year.
A Grand Tour
In just a few months, Robert will have traveled from Philadelphia to London for the premiere of David Bowie’s final film, where he’ll dance with famous faces from the music industry. While there will undoubtedly be sad trombones in the crowd, there will also be plenty of celebrities to make the event worth watching. In July 2015, the singer will be seen in theaters across the country as Frankenstein’s monster, which is one of the most iconic and stylish movies of all time.
There’s more! In April 2015, it was announced that Robert would be co-starring in the third installment of the Hobbit franchise, The Battle of the Five Armies. The role will see Robert reprise his role as the titular character from 2014’s The Hobbit: The Battle of the Four Armies, in which he portrays the Necromancer, the leader of the Dark Wizard forces. In December 2015, it was revealed that a sequel is already in the works as a result of popular demand. And to top it all off, in September 2015, it was confirmed that Robert will star in the upcoming James Bond film, No Time to Die. The film will mark the return of Daniel Craig as Bond, and having already played opposite some of the best-known movie stars of all time, it’s safe to say that Robert will do his best to live up to the legendary reputation of the character.
