Robert Pattinson and Zoe Kravitz are set to join the 2019 Academy Awards afterparty celebration.
The couple, who were last seen on the big screen together in last year’s dark romance, Dunkirk, will be among the first to party on the red carpet, just hours before the Oscars ceremony begins.
Based on the 1944 novel of the same name by HG Wells, Wonderland stars the English actor alongside Japanese director Yurajiro Yamamoto. Shot entirely in Marrakech, Morocco, the dystopian drama focuses on a young couple, Jack (Pattinson) and Alice (Kravitz), who fall in love while fighting for survival in a world devastated by climate change. Set against a backdrop of crumbling infrastructure and simmering social unrest, the film paints a bleak picture of future global relations.
Wonderland marks Yamamoto’s first English-language film and his second collaboration with American director Sean Baker. The film premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the prestigious U.S. Grand Jury Prize for Unexplored Talent, and was released theatrically in the U.S. by Amazon Prime Video on 24 February.
The team behind the U.S. TV show, The Handmaid’s Tale, are set to adapt the novel for the small screen, with Rebecca Taylor (pictured below on left) set to direct the project for Hulu
The adaptation of Wonderland, which also won the grand jury prize at Sundance, will mark yet another collaboration between the director and the prominent American screenwriter, Sarah Waters. Together, Yamamoto and Waters penned the screenplay for the highly anticipated film adaptation of Trollhunters, an American TV series based on a Finnish Game Jam project. The plot follows a group of trolls as they live in the digital world and track down human children they suspect of being careless and dangerous.
The 2019 Oscars follow the announcements of several 2019 Golden Globe nominations on Monday, including best motion picture and director for Bohemian Rhapsody, and best actor for Rami Malek. The star of the film, which also earned Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations, will be honoured with the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes.
The 76th Academy Awards ceremony will be held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on 24 March. The night’s big winner will be decided from among the contenders for the best picture accolade.
