The most recognizable faces on the red carpet are often those of the rich and famous. But off-camera, there is another side to most appearances – where we see people trying to stay fit and healthy. For those who follow Fashionably Fit, you’ll know that we like to shine a light on the routines of the rich and famous; highlighting their dietary restrictions, exercise habits, and sleep schedules. And while we normally refrain from invading celebrities’ privacy, we couldn’t resist the urge to dive into Robert Pattinson’s world and find out what exactly makes this British actor and singer tick.
We’ve known about Mr. Pattinson’s vegan and vegetarian habits for some time now (he’s reportedly replaced animal products with plant-based alternatives in all areas of his diet), but it wasn’t until this spring that we learned a lot more about his fitness routine. The 33-year-old actor recently sat down with the British publication GQ, and opened up about a lot of interesting topics – including his vegan diet and workouts.
An Unexpected Conversation
On the subject of his diet, Mr. Pattinson noted that he doesn’t like to “shock people” with the fact that he is vegan. “I didn’t set out to be a vegan. It’s not like, ‘Oh, I’ll be a vegan from now on.’ That’s not how it started,” he said. “I’ve been a vegetarian for the past four years, and then I tried to go vegan for a while. And I had to go back to eating meat. It’s not like it was a permanent switch. It was more like, ‘Let’s try this out for a while and see how I feel,'” he added.
When pressed for details about what makes up his diet, Mr. Pattinson stated, “I try and avoid anything with dyes in it. So, basically, no fast food – no coffee, no tea, no tobacco, no alcohol. And no artificial sweeteners either. If it’s not vegan, then I don’t eat it.”
Vegan Is The New Black
Although Mr. Pattinson doesn’t like to shock people with his diet choices, he’s certainly not afraid to admit that he’s going through a vegan phase right now. “I think it’s really cool – and interesting – that people are moving away from meat and toward a more plant-based diet. Especially in the UK. Everyone seems to be going that way right now. It’s cool to see people try new things and challenge themselves,” he said. “And it makes sense. Red meat is really bad for you. If it wasn’t for the fall season, I’d be completely vegan. I try and avoid anything with dyes in it. So, basically, no fast food – no coffee, no tea, no tobacco, no alcohol. And no artificial sweeteners either. If it’s not vegan, then I don’t eat it.”
More Than Meets The Eye
What’s interesting about Mr. Pattinson’s vegan diet is that it isn’t just about the meat-free option. He prefers to use food as a vehicle to express his political opinions. So while he doesn’t eat meat, he will incorporate plant-based foods into his diet to make a point. “I think it’s a great way to get your message across, especially with politicians,” he said. “There’s always a lot of bad blood between them and the general public. So anything that brings that relationship down is a good thing in my eyes.”
It’s also important to note that Mr. Pattinson is more than just a vegan. He’s a vegetarian, and he tries to incorporate more plant-based foods into his diet as a result of this lifestyle decision. Asked about what types of food he avoided while on the plant-based diet, Mr. Pattinson named coffee, tea, and red meat. “It’s not that I’ve completely cut them out of my diet. I still have my coffee sometimes. But I try and avoid anything with dyes in it. So, basically, no fast food – no coffee, no tea, no tobacco, no alcohol. And no artificial sweeteners either. If it’s not vegan, then I don’t eat it,” he said.

An Exercise Routine That Works
One of the things that really stood out to us about Mr. Pattinson’s GQ interview is that the actor revealed he incorporates a lot of exercise and movement into his daily routine. “I’m very much into yoga. And I also do a lot of acting exercises. Especially the scene-chewing. I’ll do my best James Bond impression if you watch the interview (laughs). Try and keep your eyes open for it,” he said, revealing a side of himself that most people don’t get to see. “I do a lot of weights too. I really enjoy lifting weights. It gives you a different feeling. It depends on what kind of work you’re doing, but for me, it’s always been a good way to relax and de-stress.”
On the subject of de-stressing, Mr. Pattinson noted that he doesn’t like to “rush” into his work. Instead, he finds it more effective to take his time and do his work correctly. “I was never really a fan of just getting things done in a hurry. I’ve always liked to take my time with things and do them correctly,” he said. “Even when I was a kid, I’d always take my time with my schoolwork and do it thoroughly. I’d never just dash off a quick essay and think it was good enough.”
It’s important to note here that while the majority of the above information has been obtained from Mr. Pattinson’s own interview, additional information regarding his workouts has been provided by his manager.
