For decades, the most powerful Hollywood couple has been Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. Theirs was an epic love story; they met on the set of the movie Cleopatra and were married for almost 50 years before passing away in the same night. They had two sons, named Alexander and Burton, who became famous for their own marriages to Grace Kelly and Sybil Terrett. Now it’s time for the next generation to step up and take over the world. Meet the young English princes, the latest descendants of Britain’s royal family and Hollywood’s ultimate couple.
The Twilight Saga
If you’ve never heard of Stephenie Meyer, then maybe it’s time to rectify that. The bestselling author of the Twilight series spent her childhood in Santa Barbara, California. After graduating from Harvard with a degree in English literature, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in writing. Two years later, she sold her first screenplay – for $30,000 – and started working on her first novel. The Twilight Saga: _Readers had to wait seven years for the first part of the series, Edward Cullen and Bella Swan’s love story. The movie adaptation was released in 2012 and became one of the biggest films of all time, earning more than $500 million at the box office. The franchise has now been extended to include Eclipse, New Moon, and Breaking Dawn.
Wedding Rings
It was a love match made in Hollywood heaven; Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony hit the big-small screen in 1994 and remain one of the most famous celebrity couples of all time. They’ve been married for 25 years and have two children together, Michael and Emme. The couple first met on the set of the movie My Baby Is Best, where Jennifer plays a baby-faced school teacher. After the film’s premiere in November 1994, the couple became instant celebrities, appearing on the covers of virtually every magazine.
It was a match made in television-land too. In 2003, the ABC sitcom Cougar Town featured an engagement between Travis Bickle and Laurie Metcalf. The following year, her character’s name was changed to Shelly Maroney and she wed John Elway. That same year, the NBC sitcom 3rd Rock From the Sun featured a wedding between Elmo and Liza, with Danny DeVito and Christina Applegate as their respective parents.
Royal Weddings
It’s not just the celebrities that made history in 2019. On April 23, the wedding of Britain’s Prince Harry, a popular member of the royal family, and Meghan, a former actress and the daughter of the duke of Sussex, was one of the most highly anticipated royal weddings in years. The couple, who first confirmed their engagement in 2017, were married at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor. Their choice of venue was no coincidence: Windsor is the preferred choice of royalty and celebrities alike, not just because of the castle’s stunning architecture, but also because it is nearby London, the UK’s capital city.
The First New Generation Of Hollywood’s Legendary Couple
The first generation of the Meyers-Burton clan was born in 2003. The next year, the acclaimed musical comedy film The Last Showing featured an ensemble cast, including Lily James as Diana, the future Queen Elizabeth II. In the movie, she is portrayed by actress Lily James, with whom she shares DNA. In addition to acting in the film, her duties as a member of the royal family included walking the Queen on her birthday – a duty she performed at London’s Trooping the Colour earlier this year.
A Second Coming For The Royal Family
It seems like the royal family has found a new purpose in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Following the lead of the Duchess of Cambridge, who has given birth to Canada’s oldest newborn in a matter of days, the Queen has stepped up her public appearances. Since the start of this year, her Majesty has made several engagements, including an appearance at Wimbledon and a walkabout in London’s Hyde Park. In addition to increasing her public profile, the Queen has also stepped up her drive to introduce new members of the royal family to the public. With all these changes, it seems like the monarchy is determined to not only survive, but thrive.
What’s Next?
With the end of the year (almost) in sight, it’s time for reflection. What were the best and the worst moments of 2019? Was there one event that stood out above others? One thing is for sure: the year was historic. Never before had there been so much change in such a short amount of time. As we look towards the future, it’s important to remember the lessons of the past – and that, as with all good things, it comes to an end.
