If you thought the last movie you saw with Robert Pattinson in it was weird, well, that’s nothing compared to what’s coming up. The Twilight actor has revealed that he’s planning on making more appearances topless, and we have a pretty good idea of what those will look like. It’s enough to make you reevaluate your life.

The Reason Why

In the past, we’ve seen Pattinson in a number of shirtless scenes from his time on set playing the lead in Cosmopolis. But since the movie came out, he’s been much more adventurous in showing off his famous abs. Why the recent change in behavior? Are we really seeing a new, improved, more mature Robert Pattinson?

We think so. After gaining a decent amount of popularity for his comedy work and social media presence, it’s clear that Pattinson is happy to be more of a public figure than a supporting one. We’re also seeing a more mature side to the actor, which is reflected not only in his personal life but also on-screen. Take a look at these three scenes and you’ll see what we mean.

More Than Meets The Eye

The first of these three scenes comes from the upcoming Woody Allen film, which we got a first look at at the Cannes Film Festival. In the movie, Pattinson plays a wealthy New York business magnate who gets himself arrested during a street protest after the police officer in charge of his arrest sees him throw a rock at one of the officers. Although the movie is still in theaters, you can see why Allen would want to premiere his latest film in Cannes. The filmmaker is notorious for his risque and racy films, and this one is no different. It’s hard to imagine a more explicit scene in a Woody Allen movie.

From ‘Somersault’ To ‘Water For Elephants’

Even if you’ve never heard of the French filmmaker Claire Denis, you’ll most definitely have seen her work. You might know her as the director of the great ‘Somersault’ or the Oscar-winning ‘Beasts Of No Nation’ (although the latter doesn’t have much to do with shirtless scenes, as the film is set in Africa) or the upcoming ‘Under The Skin’ with Scarlett Johansson. In any case, Denis has continued to experiment with different types of films, and as a result, she is always guaranteed to make for a daring and unpredictable viewing experience.

One of the most interesting aspects of this particular scene is that it appears to be a self-portrait of the director. When the movie was released earlier this year, many people were caught off-guard by the intensity of Denis’ stare, which makes the scene all the more unnerving. With a camera that follows her around everywhere, it’s hard not to be overwhelmed by what feels like an intrusive gaze. But that’s probably what made the scene so unsettling for viewers at the time. It’s clear that Denis isn’t afraid to explore taboo topics such as incest and sex discrimination in her movies, topics that still provoke strong reactions from audiences even today. This doesn’t feel like another one of Woody Allen’s jokes or an elaborate practical joke, this is apparently just how Claire Denis sees herself, which is exactly why we find this so fascinating.

Pattinson Is Ready To Break Out

If you thought the above scenes were impressive, just wait ‘till you see what’s next. The star has been relatively quiet since breaking out in 2010 with the dark fantasy ‘Water For Elephants’, and we’ve been patiently waiting for the ‘Twilight’ actor to return. Since the release of Denis’ self-portrait, he’s been working hard to make sure we all know he’s still alive and hasn’t forgotten about us. And boy, has he ever been working hard. Take a look at some of his recent Instagram posts and you’ll see exactly what we mean.

Even before Denis’ self-portrait, Pattinson had been slowly opening up about his desire to get back to doing more acting and taking on larger roles. After years of playing supporting characters, he clearly wants to prove that he’s capable of playing a leading man. And boy, is he ever going to get a chance. Just look at all the movies he’s starred in in the past few years and the various awards that have come with them. It doesn’t get any better than this. He’s finally getting his props in the right way. Let’s hope that this is the result of a happier and more fulfilling personal life, away from the spotlight. We can only hope.
