Early Life And Family

Robert Pattinson was born on July 20, 1984, in London, England. He is the child of director Tim (né Thomson) and film producer Kate (née Spence), who died from cancer in 2000. He has an older brother, Max, who is also an artist. Growing up in the United Kingdom, the young Pattinson developed an appreciation for painting and drawing. He later moved to Southern California to study at the California Institute of the Arts (Cal Arts).

Pattinson’s paternal grandfather, Monty, was born in London to Irish parents. When Monty was 17, he traveled to the United States and became a naturalized citizen there. He worked as a barber in New York City and later opened up his own barber shop in Los Angeles. At the time of Monty’s death in 1968, he was the oldest barber in America.
