Early Life And Family
Robert Pattinson was born on July 20, 1984, in London, England. He is the child of director Tim (né Thomson) and film producer Kate (née Spence), who died from cancer in 2000. He has an older brother, Max, who is also an artist. Growing up in the United Kingdom, the young Pattinson developed an appreciation for painting and drawing. He later moved to Southern California to study at the California Institute of the Arts (Cal Arts).
Pattinson’s paternal grandfather, Monty, was born in London to Irish parents. When Monty was 17, he traveled to the United States and became a naturalized citizen there. He worked as a barber in New York City and later opened up his own barber shop in Los Angeles. At the time of Monty’s death in 1968, he was the oldest barber in America. In 2018, at the age of 102, he became the second-oldest surviving barber in the country. His surname – originally spelled “Patterson” – was anglicized to “Pattinson.”

Pattinson is currently on the set of the upcoming film adaptation of Jacqueline Winspeare’s renowned 1996 gothic horror opus, The Hunchback Of Notre Dame. In this role, he will play the titular character, whose fate is intertwined with that of the beautiful Quasimodo. A worldwide premiere for the film is scheduled for May 29, 2020. Directed by William Wadille, the film also stars Eva Green, John Malkovich, and Danny DeVito.
Pattinson will next be seen in the comedy series, Dead to Me, which premieres on Netflix in April 2020. In the series, he plays Robbie, an estranged husband who reconnects with his wife, Laura (Linda Cardellini), after her death. The two had a daughter named Caroline, who is now 16 years old. Caroline’s social skills leave a lot to be desired and she struggles with confidence. When her mother dies, Caroline’s world turns upside down and she begins to reach out to the people who mean the most to her.

He plays a successful photographer whose world is turned upside down when his sister (Helena Bonham Carter) seeks him out to take her daughter’s (Camille Banham-Peel) virginity. Carter’s character is the daughter of legendary author and screenwriter, Eve (Margot Robbie). While the film may be a departure from Pattinson’s usual fare, he will be playing the role of a father for the first time. What Was Left Of Her also stars Eddie Redmayne, Alicia Silverstone, and Andrew Garfield. The film will be released by Netflix.

Aside from his acting career, Pattinson has been a keen amateur photographer. Since he was a teenager, he has been taking pictures of women for various magazines and newspapers.
