The ‘Twilight’ actor announced in June 2019 that he had found love with singer and guitarist FKA Twigs. The celebrity couple jetted off to Venice, Italy for their big day in August, where they tied the knot in a private ceremony. They announced the news by posting a sweet video of themselves on Facebook. The wedding came a year after the ‘Downton Abbey’ star separated from his wife of 10 years, Debora, whom he married in a shotgun wedding in 2012. Since then, he has been in a on-and-off relationship with Twigs, who he met while filming her music video ‘Married To The Road.’

The news was quickly followed by speculation about their future. Does the engagement mean a successful reboot of Pattinson’s solo career? Does it hint at a collaboration or joint venture between the two entertainers? Does it imply that Twigs will play a big part in shaping his future projects? Find out more below.

The Success Of ‘Twilight’

It’s fair to say that ‘Twilight’ didn’t exactly set the world on fire when it was first released in 2011. The film, which follows a young woman’s (Kristen Stewart) quest for independence and self-discovery, premiered to modest stateside box office and mixed reviews from critics. Some praised Stewart for giving a refreshingly natural performance, while others panned the film for its predictable plot and flat characters.

Despite the negative outlook, ‘Twilight’ went on to become one of the biggest blockbusters of all time, earning over $2.2 billion worldwide. It currently ranks as the 10th highest-grossing film of all time. In 2019, it was revealed that the film was the highest-grossing of all time among female-driven films, and the 17th highest-grossing of all time, overall. (The Guardian)

Will ‘Twilight’ Be Compatible With ‘Downton Abbeys’ Demeanor?

While ‘Twilight’ has established itself as a cash cow for its producers, the marriage of an A-list celebrity can be a very lucrative deal. Not only does it give them an entrée into the lucrative world of exhibitionism and fan worship, but it also provides them with the freedom to explore other creative outlets, such as fashion and film. With the latter, they can potentially team up to bring a fresh perspective to a potentially iconic franchise.

An Opportunity To Rebuild A Brand

If there’s one thing that ‘Twilight’ and ‘Downton Abbey’ have in common, it’s that they’re both built on the foundation of incredible brand loyalty. When fans learned that Stewart’s character, Bella, would be dating a vampire, (Edward Cullen), they were quick to embrace the phenomenon. The Twilight series – including its critically panned prequel, ‘New Moon’ – has sold over 125 million DVDs and counting, making it one of the biggest entertainment brands of all time. Similarly, ‘Downton Abbey’ has been a consistent ratings and prize winner for ITV, becoming one of the most popular series on television and spawning a line of tea towels, dishware, and swimwear.

A Rejuvenation Of Robert Pattinson’s Career

The 33-year-old English actor has had a fairly turbulent career, to put it lightly. After making his breakthrough performance in the 2005 independent film ‘Death Of A Tourist,’ he went on to star in a string of blockbusters followed by a handful of critically panned movies. (It’s fair to say that he hasn’t been able to find the golden touch, with the exception of 2018’s ‘Once Upon A Time In Hollywood,’ which he co-starred with his ‘Downton Abbey’ co-star, Margot Robbie.)

The fact that Pattinson was able to rebound from such massive flops to become somewhat of a supporting actor kingpin is quite an accomplishment. It was only after he turned 30 that he was able to really start ascending the Hollywood ranks. In 2019 alone, he was hired to play Quentin Tarantulinu in Quentin Tarantulinu’s upcoming film ‘Once Upon A Time In Hollywood,’ which will be released in 2021.

So, does this mean that we can expect to see Pattinson star in some of the biggest Hollywood productions of the next decade? It certainly seems that way. With his incredible brand recognition and ability to snag a franchise, it’s not out of the question for him to pop up in Marvel movies, or a James Bond film, or even a ‘Star Wars’ movie. (At the very least, he’ll play a memorable villain.)

For all you ‘Twilight’ fans out there, the news that Pattinson is expanding his creative scope and teaming up with Twigs for a possible ‘Star Wars’ movie is pretty exciting. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that this is just a rumor and that they don’t pull a ‘Han Solo’ and end up not making the movie at all.

Signs Of Things To Come

Since its premiere in 2011, ‘Twilight’ has spawned two books and a video game. While the first two books were mild successes, the game was a big flop. Despite the critical drubbing that ‘Twilight’ received, it continues to entertain audiences around the world. In 2020 it will be 20 years since the franchise took off, and it shows no signs of slowing down. (In 2020 alone, it was revealed that the Twilight series had sold over 20 million movie tickets worldwide.) This is undoubtedly a testament to Stewart’s remarkable popularity, and it would be a shame for her career to stagnate now that she’s achieved her initial goal of boosting her profile following her break-up with Pattinson.
