The last few months have been a whirlwind for Robert Pattinson. The 27-year-old actor, whose biggest role to date is that of Cedric Diggory in the Harry Potter film series, has been keeping busy with films, magazine features and photo shoots. In fact, the last few months have seen him grace the covers of Vanity Fair, The New York Times, The Guardian, Elle, GQ and more. So let’s take a look back at Pattinson’s incredible year.
A Grand Tour
While on the set of the upcoming psychological thriller The Rover, in which he plays a sociopathic husband, Pattinson revealed that he would be taking a well-deserved holiday soon after filming wrapped. “I’ve been working hard for the last 10 years, so it’s about time I got a break,” he said. Soon after, he headed to Los Angeles to begin preparations for his first-ever trip to the United States. In the summer of 2019, he made his grand entrance into the American city with a bang. Pattinson was in Los Angeles to shoot Vanity Fair’s 100th anniversary photoshoot and to attend the Vanity Fair Academy for Mentoring Young Fashion Designers (AMYFDF) Summit. On Friday August 16, 2019, he attended the Vanity Fair Academy for Mentoring Young Fashion Designers (AMYFDF) Summit in collaboration with Anna Sui and Tiffany & CO. Afterwards, he held a Meet And Greet with fans at the Chateau Marmont Hotel. Vanity Fair photographer James Grimaldi captured the moment for the magazine’s readers. “It was such an incredible honor to have Robert Pattinson join me on this project. He is such a massive figure in popular culture and I’m really looking forward to working with him,” Grimaldi said.
Action Jackson
The Rover wasn’t the only film that Pattinson shot this year. In fact, he had a busy year, with credits including the upcoming Action Jackson, opposite Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. The role required him to act, improvise and fight — all real-life experiences for the actor. The highly-anticipated film is set for release on November 25, 2019. Action Jackson is the story of a retired cop who becomes an action-adventure hero when he’s given a second chance at life. The film also stars Kim Basinger and Tommy Lee Jones. While shooting the film, Pattinson once again worked with Grimaldi, this time to capture the action scenes. He also held a press conference to discuss his new film.
Harley Quinn
Pattinson wasn’t just in the news for the right reasons this year. The actor also lent his voice to the lead character in the animated adventure film Harley Quinn, which also stars Margot Robbie. The film is based on the DC Comics character of the same name and sees her team up with the Joker to solve crime. The character originated from the DC animated series Justice League. While on the surface the film looks like a comedy, it deals with serious subject matter, including mental health. The film is set for release on February 14, 2020.
Other Projects
In addition to the leads mentioned above, Pattinson starred in the indie darlings The Laundromat and Little Women, both of which were released in the summer of 2020. The actor will be seen in the upcoming 2021 film The House Of Gucci, opposite Kate Winslet and Tilda Swinton. On the literary front, Pattinson will be seen in an upcoming film adaptation of L.A. Confidential, directed by Curtis Hanson and alongside an ensemble cast that includes Kevin Spacey and Guy Pearce.
With so much going on in his career, it’s no wonder that Pattinson has been so busy this year. He is clearly taking advantage of his newfound fame, with a string of prominent magazine features and highly-publicized photoshoots marking the year. What’s next for the inimitable Robert Pattinson? In 2021, he will be seen in the starring role in the film adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower.
