This is, quite simply, one of the greatest celebrity autobiographies of all time. The story of how one of the most beautiful and talented men in the world turned into a hermit, living in a log cabin in the woods outside of London, is incredible.
Certainly, there are some incredible passages in the book. Interspersed with his own personal and often hilarious stories, we’re treated to an abundance of raw, uncensored, and at times rather shocking material. We see, for example, Michael Jackson performing a sex act on a rabbit. Apparently, it’s all in good fun, but it’s still quite disturbing to read about.
Even so, despite the occasionally salacious content, the overriding theme of the book is one of triumph. As Pattinson writes in his own words:
“It’s been a long time coming, but after a lot of hard work and a few near disasters, I think I’ve finally managed to put my life in good order. And, as a result, I feel like I can finally put my story in good order, too… I was born in England in 1984. My father is English and my mother is French. I have an older brother named Charlie and a younger sister named Amelia. I always wanted a brother and a sister, and in a way, we’re extremely similar. We both have dark hair and brown eyes, and we’re both very slim—even a little on the pale side. We both love animals and nature, and we’re both very creative.”
Pattinson grew up in an exceedingly wealthy family. His maternal grandfather, Antony Beauchamp, was the proprietor of the House of Beauchamp, a famous London department store. His father, Richard, was a successful stockbroker and one of the first Westerners to own a home in Moscow. Indeed, as a child, Pattinson was sent to an exclusive private school in London, before moving to Moscow to live with his father. He returned to England later that year, and then spent the next five years of his young life living between Paris and London, before finally ending up in Los Angeles, where he currently lives.
A Change Of Lifestyle
It was in Los Angeles that Pattinson became enmeshed in the Hollywood dream machine. He signed with IMG Models and began working with top agents in the industry. At parties and dinners hosted by A-listers, he met and fell in love with Katy Perry. They quickly became engaged, and just a few months later, Katy gave birth to their daughter, Dream. A few years later, in 2011, the couple wed. Later that year, Pattinson appeared in the movie Bel Ami, playing one of the film’s secondary romantic interests. It was a huge hit, and launched his film career.
The Creativity Of A Saint
Before his professional life began to take off, Pattinson had already made several forays into the world of art. He began taking classes at the Royal Academy of Art in London. Then, in 2007, he moved to Paris, where he enrolled in the prestigious Cours Clarisse. It was in Paris that he began working with the designer Alexandre Vauthier. Together, they founded a jewelry line, Saint Laurent Beaute, which specialises in unique pieces designed in-house. Some of these handcrafted pieces are on view in the new Vanity Fair article.
After several successful collaborations, the couple’s work caught the attention of the royal family. In 2014, they were granted an audience with Queen Elizabeth II, where they presented the Queen with a selection of their work. In December of that year, they were appointed to the Order of the British Empire for their services to the royal family and to British fashion. Queen Elizabeth II herself presented Pattinson with the award, saying:
“We are very grateful for all their services to the crown and to British fashion. They have both been a great help to us, and we wish them both a long and happy life together.”
The artist formerly known as Rob has also maintained a prolific musical career. He is the founding member of The Traveling Wilburys, a supergroup consisting of himself, George Harrison, James Taylor, and Jeff Lynne. Although the group never enjoyed much mainstream success, they did release a self-titled album in 2013, which debuted at number seven on the Billboard Top 200. The album’s first single, “Handle with Care,” became a top 10 hit in over 20 countries. It was the band’s highest-charting single to date.
A Life In The Country
In 2015, Pattinson returned to London, where he began building a country estate. With an art collection that includes pieces by Warhol and Lichtenstein, he decided to indulge his passion for all things nature and natural. His architect, Thierry Despont, designed a rustic, timber-framed lodge, which is surrounded by a 180-acre garden. Upon its completion in April of this year, it was bestowed with a “Good” rating from the British Institute of Architecture. In addition, he founded the Rob Pattinson Foundation, which supports artists in developing their craft and aims to raise awareness of environmental issues.
Pattinson has used his celebrity to speak out on important social issues. He has supported numerous charitable causes, including the animal rights group PETA and the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation. He has also lent his support to mental health charities, such as the King’s Reach Project and the Howard League for Penal Reform.
A Change In Identity
Pattinson’s creative nature led him to devise a brand-new identity for himself, which he named “Bruno Lion.” The name refers to a character he created for a series of children’s books he wrote, which are aimed at young readers. In the books, Bruno Lion is a big, friendly, brown bear with a Scottish accent. In the movies, he’s played by Charlie Bean.
After devising this identity, the actor put in the necessary work to reinvent himself. For several years, he immersed himself in theater workshops, taking on various identities and playing different parts. It was during this time that he developed an appreciation for working with animals. He would later go on to found the Rob Pattinson Foundation, which aims to raise awareness of environmental issues. In 2017, he released his first children’s book, titled Bruno and the Beasties, which features all of his favorite animal characters: Toto, Lulu, and Freddy. The book was inspired by his love for all things Disney and his desire to introduce young readers to the wonders of graphic novels.
What is most impressive about this article is not just the incredible story of a successful and creative man who reinvented himself; it’s also the remarkable detail with which the author paints a portrait of a seemingly normal and relatable individual. With the exception of his work with animals, all of this would seem unremarkable—even mundane. However, the fact that much of this came to pass as a direct result of extraordinary circumstances and the curiosity of a highly skilled journalist is what makes this article extraordinary. It’s very easy to write an article about a famous person or a life built on the foundation of a celebrity. What is more impressive is when an article is written about a celebrity, while still remaining an article.
The Future
In the future, Pattinson’s journey will continue. He is currently working on a memoir, and is also considering making an appearance on the big screen. Additionally, he has a number of film projects in development, including the English-language remake of the famous French film Les Misérables. Directed by John Andrews, the film is set to star Ralph Fiennes and Annette Bening. The role of Javert is being touted as a potentially career-defining role for Fiennes. This is the kind of role that will allow him to showcase his skills as an actor. Bening seems a safe bet to continue in the role she began playing 30 years ago. The film is currently without a release date.
Pattinson is a true Renaissance man, demonstrating extraordinary versatility and creativity. He continues to work hard at keeping his talent and reputation alive, while still finding the time to indulge his passions and hobbies. It’s clear that this is a man who is comfortable in his own skin and content with who he is, despite the extraordinary story that brought him to prominence. This, in turn, makes him all the more intriguing and attractive as a subject for an article, as well as an exhibition or a film. It should come as little surprise, then, that much of our interest in this article is sparked by the desire to meet this fascinating individual. Fortunately for us, Vanity Fair has given us the perfect opportunity to experience a little of what makes this man tick. And while it may not be entirely accurate to describe him as a hermit, as he still dabbles in the world of art and fashion, we can at least learn a little from his example.
