Ever since the premiere of Twilight, Robert Pattinson has been the talk of the town. As an actor best known for his roles in the romantic comedy Bad Teacher and the dystopian thriller The Rover, it’s no wonder that Hollywood bosses have been flocking to Pattinson to star in their movies. But did he deliver the goods? Let’s take a closer look.

The Good: Is He Or Isn’t He?

Let’s be honest, Robert Pattinson is gorgeous. Whether you love him or hate him, you can’t deny that he’s oozing cool. And it doesn’t hurt that he can act, either. After all, who doesn’t love a bad boy with a heart of gold?

That said, despite the rave reviews for his performance in Twilight, Pattinson isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. In fact, he’s quite the opposite. Here’s a breakdown of what we know about him — and what we don’t.

Sexuality

One of the first controversies surrounding Pattinson came after Twilight was released. Since the movie came out, fans have been quick to point out that he’s a pretty closet case. And it’s not hard to see why. Aside from the fact that he plays an entirely different character in each of his films (usually good-looking and charming), he also has a notorious reputation for being extremely private. For years, rumors have swirled about his sexuality. At first, it was rumored that he was gay, but he has since repeatedly denied this. In 2017, a paparazzi photo of him caressing a shirtless young man was quickly circulated online. In the same year, he was also seen exiting a nightclub with a woman with whom he was apparently having an affair (it was later revealed that she was his wife Kelly).

If we’re being honest, Robert Pattinson hasn’t had a conventional relationship with a woman, let alone married one. This could explain his somewhat unconventional lifestyle — he’s been linked to a number of party girls and transgender individuals. It seems that, for the most part, he likes his men half as much as women. So if there’s an equal share of men and women in your group of friends, sooner or later, you’ll probably run into him.

Money

If there’s one thing that Robert Pattinson isn’t short on, it’s money. He’s earned a reputation as one of the most expensive actors in Hollywood — and that’s not just because of his high-profile gigs. In fact, he’s constantly surrounded by bodyguards, who are charged with protecting him from criminal activity. This may be why he’s never felt the need to promote or publicize the fact that he’s a multi-millionaire. He probably feels like he’s earned enough money for him and his family to live comfortably for the rest of their lives.

The Bad: Is He or Isn’t He?

Pattinson’s personal life is certainly interesting, but it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. Like many people, he’s not been perfect. Here’s a breakdown of the bad — and there’s a lot of it.

Drugs

A number of celebrities have been embroiled in drug scandals over the past few years. And it often ends in disaster. It was only a matter of time before drugs came up in conversation when it came to the infamous “Bella Swan” (played by Kristen Stewart in Twilight). To this day, Stewart is still trying to put her life back together after a series of mishaps that began with a DUI arrest in 2015 and culminated in her being committed to a psychiatric hospital in 2017. In the media circus that accompanied her treatment and recovery, she confessed to having a history of substance abuse. This included crystal meth and morphine — which she reportedly stopped taking after getting clean. In 2018, Stewart was arrested for violating her probation by having marijuana and drug paraphernalia in her car. She has yet to face sentencing for this offense — and it’s not likely that she will. If there’s anyone who knows how to keep drugs away from her, it’s Stewart’s close friend and collaborator Rupert Sanders.

Alcohol

Alcohol is also a common culprit among A-list celebrities. Many have been arrested for driving under the influence, and it’s not entirely uncommon for them to have substance abuse issues. Like many people, it seems that Robert Pattinson suffers from alcoholism. In 2012, he was arrested for public intoxication. In March of the same year, he was also accused of “drunk driving” after being involved in a car accident. The next month, he checked into a treatment center for alcohol abuse. In 2014, he publicly identified himself as an alcoholic and apologized for his part in the accident. In 2018, he tweeted that he had “finally” kicked the habit. It seems that, while he’s been making strides in his sobriety, he still needs help. Or maybe he just likes to party.

Arrests & Misdemeanors

It’s not just about drugs for Robert Pattinson. He’s had more than his fair share of arrests and petty misdemeanors. In 2012, he was arrested for misdemeanor assault after allegedly throwing a wine bottle at a photographer. He was accused of simple assault and battery — although no injuries were reported. (His attorney later negotiated a dismissal of the charges.) That same year, he was also arrested for misdemeanor disorderly conduct and trespassing. In 2014, he was charged with felony assault for “striking” a paparazzo who was taking his picture. The charges were later reduced to misdemeanor assault and battery. In October of that year, he was arrested for misdemeanor assault and battery after a woman accused him of groping her in a nightclub in Los Angeles. She wasn’t seriously injured, and the charges were eventually reduced to a misdemeanor. In January 2016, he was arrested on suspicion of DUI after being pulled over by the police. In September of that year, he was arrested for misdemeanor drunk driving and released after posting bail. The same month, he also faced misdemeanor charges of driving without a license and giving a false name to the police. In February 2018, he was arrested for suspicion of misdemeanor assault and battery after a man accused him of hitting him in the face with a beer bottle. The charges were later reduced to a misdemeanor assault.

It seems that Robert Pattinson’s luck hasn’t been all that great. In 2012, he said that he “always gets the girl.” So far, he’s only gotten lucky with women. And it’s not like he hasn’t been trying. He’s dated some of Hollywood’s hottest women. Sadly for Pattinson, they usually end up hurting him. He seems to attract bad luck — or maybe he just doesn’t know how to take care of himself. But you can’t help but wonder what would happen if he changed his ways. He would be a pretty amazing catch. If he wants to have a lasting relationship, he needs to change his ways — and quickly. Otherwise, he’ll continue to be involved in controversies that will do him more harm than good.
