The Making of a Style Icon
It’s been six years since Robert Pattinson stunned the world with his gorgeous, if slightly eccentric, looks in the Twilight Saga. Since then, the British actor’s style has been an inspiration to many—from Kate Middleton’s engagement necklace, to Kim Kardashian’s fashion choices. In honor of Pattinson’s landmark birthday on November 23rd, we take a look back at some of the fashion moments that defined and continue to define the style world’s greatest living fashion legend.
The Wedding Ring
If there’s one style moment that epitomizes Pattinson’s look, it’s undoubtedly his wedding ring. The actor tied the knot with long-time love Vanessa Paradis in a beautiful ceremony in Paris in July 2014. The day was graced by the presence of close friends and family, as well as a host of fashion stars. Among the attendees were Christian Louboutin, Stella McCartney, and Donatella Versace. The French fashion house created a special ‘wedding set’ for the occasion, consisting of two rings: a band of gold and a solitaire diamond. The rings were designed in collaboration with Mr. Mihael Arseniyiv and made by the renowned French jeweler Van Cleef.
The couple have been together since meeting on the set of the Twilight Saga in 2008. As the culmination of a romantic relationship that began in middle school, the wedding of the decade was a fairy tale come true for their devoted fans. And for those who were rooting for the couple from the start, the wedding was a triumphant celebration—finally proving that their love was going to be blessed with the trappings of a traditional, happily-ever-after marriage.
The Romantic Comedy
One of the most delightful aspects of the Twilight Saga is its portrayal of an unconventional romance. The movies are a romantic comedy series that follows the adventures of Bella Swan (played by Kristen Stewart) and Edward Cullen (Pattinson), a gorgeous and charming vampire who falls in love with her while she is adjusting to her ‘vampire lifestyle.’
After a rocky beginning that sees the couple break up and eventually get back together, Edward helps Bella realize that there is more to life than being with a human. Over the course of the story, they develop a deep and satisfying bond, one that sees them through thick and thin, surviving numerous trials and tribulations together. Their love for each other is portrayed with a raw, passionate intensity, making for one of the most romantic stories in Hollywood history. The series has won a plethora of awards, including five Golden Globes and two Academy Awards. It also made a lasting impression on its millennial audience, spawning trendy memes and inspiring fashion choices, such as matching manicure and tattoo trends.
The Grand Tour
While many may have been inspired by Bella and Edward’s star-crossed romance, it was the actor’s grand tour that truly captured the imagination of fashion fans the world over. The Englishman’s famous solo travels saw him visiting the likes of Milan, Paris, and London—in that order—enjoying a glamorous lifestyle that comes with being one of the most recognizable faces in fashion. He has also been known to show up at fashion houses unannounced, dropping by for a chat or to show off his enviable wardrobe, often favouring brands such as Burberry, Emporio Armani, and Salvatori.
Pattinson has been referred to as the “herald of the millennial generation,” due to his status as one of the most successful and well-known faces in fashion. He is also known for wearing what he wears, and he rarely changes his look. One thing’s for sure: this fashion icon will never be bored.
