I’m not in the habit of reading other people’s reviews, but I was lucky enough to stumble upon one on-line, which intrigued me. It was a review of Twilight, by Stephanie Meyers, posted on www.goodreads.com. At the time, I was in the process of writing a book about the movie industry, and so I found the review to be quite informative. It helped me to better understand what the critics were saying about the film and whether or not I should even bother going to see it. The review is as follows –

Review

If you’re curious about Twilight and haven’t read the books, you might be wondering what the hype is all about. Well, wonder no more, because I have some enlightening news for you. Robert Pattinson, the actor who plays Edward Cullen, recently spoke with Rolling Stone magazine and gave his two cents’ worth about the Twilight franchise.

As a movie buff and someone who has always been interested in reading, I was definitely intrigued by the comments made by one of the most famous English actors of our time, especially since he was speaking about a movie that I had just recently seen. After reading the review, I knew that I had to see it for myself, since I had never read the Twilight series. I have to admit, I was not really sure what to expect going into the screening. Would I like it? Was it going to be another one of those annoying Hollywood cash-grab movies that Hollywood typically tries to pass off as art? That’s something I usually have to watch out for, since when Hollywood thinks that making a quick buck is a good idea, you know that it usually results in a poorly made film that only the most diehard fans will enjoy. Thankfully, I was proven wrong.

I’ll go further and say that I was pleasantly surprised by the film. It was a lot more than I was expecting, and it certainly didn’t disappoint. If anything, I felt as though it surpassed my expectations. This could simply be because I had such high hopes for the film when I heard it was going to be about vampires, but I think it is more likely that it was because of how well written the book is; in fact, it is one of the best pieces of literature that I have ever read. It takes place in the same world as the Twilight series, but the characters and story lines are very different. The best part is that it is completely free of the annoying clichés that so often accompany films based on books. That’s something to be thankful for.

Why Is Edward Cullen So Popular?

Before I begin, let me just say that I love Edward Cullen and think that he is a fascinating character. He is one of the most intriguing protagonists in recent literature, if not all of fiction, and it is easy to see why. Simply put, he is the epitome of a Renaissance Man. In addition to being a talented scientist, mathematician, and inventor, he is also a skilled linguist, having had many years of experience traveling the world and learning different languages. It is clear that Edward spends a great deal of time thinking, analyzing, and formulating strategies, which is something that makes him so special and different from the average person. He is definitely one of literature’s greatest thinkers, and considering that this is a character that is meant to be interpreted by others, it might be a good idea to study up on the subject so that you can do him justice.

What Makes Stephanie’s Book Worth Reading?

The next thing that you might be wondering about is whether or not you should bother reading Stephanie’s book. As I mentioned above, I had never read the Twilight series before I read this one. Even so, I was aware of it and knew that the actor who played Edward Cullen was in it. I was curious enough to want to find out more about it, so I decided to give it a go. Luckily, I found it to be an excellent choice. While it does not hold a candle to the original, it is a fascinating look into the world of Twilight from Edward’s perspective. It’s not just about vampires though, there are a lot more interesting themes and ideas that it explores. What makes this particular novel so special is not just its characters, but the way that it is written. For one thing, it was obviously written using the pseudonym ‘Stephanie Meyers’, which is an interesting choice since it is usually authors who write under a pseudonym who use it to protect their privacy and/or who want to be able to write without restrictions. Edward has no qualms about using his real name, however, which is something that makes him distinct from all of the other characters in the book. He also uses the first person narrative to write his own personal account of his experiences during filming, which is a rather interesting choice for an ostensibly fictionalized account. This is certainly one of literature’s most unique and interesting stories. It is definitely worth your time.

Movie Goers: What Do You Think?

Now that you’re familiar with the details of the review, you might be wondering what the general consensus is about Twilight. Do you think it is worth seeing, or should you avoid it like the plague? After reading the novel, my initial reaction was that I didn’t think that it was that great, and it was mostly due to a lack of interest in reading novels. I always feel as though the characters in books are written with an air of superiority, which is rather frustrating. Nevertheless, out of all the characters in the book, I think that Alice has the best quality. She does not fit the mold of a typical ‘vampire’, and so she makes for a much more unique and fascinating character. If you’re looking for vampires that drink blood and suck the life out of their victims, then you might want to avoid this one.

In the end, it is up to you what you want to believe about Twilight. That is what makes literature great; you get to choose how you feel about the story and the characters, and so long as you are not damaging anyone’s property or cheating on your wife/husband, I don’t think that there should be any restrictions regarding what you read or see. The most important thing is that you have an open mind and decide for yourself. If you read the reviews before you see the movie, then you will know what to expect, but I doubt that they will help you understand the story any better. It’s always best to go in with an open mind and decide for yourself what you think. That is the best way to ensure that you have an opinion worth listening to and that is also the best way to ensure that you do not become disappointed if you are not wowed by the film. I suppose that the best thing that you can do for yourself is read the reviews and decide for yourself what is good and what is bad. In the end, that is all that matters.
