New York Fashion Week: Balmain, Dior, and More
Welcome to our semi-regularly updated feed on the most relevant topics in fashion and lifestyle.
In the world of fashion, every month brings a new round of shows, new collections, and new revelations. This October was no different from the rest, with New York Fashion Week providing us with some of the most stunning images from the most renowned designers.
Amongst the shows, we were blessed with some truly unforgettable moments. It started with Miu Miu’s autumn/winter 2015 collection, which turned heads with its innovative use of materials and innovative design.
We then had the pleasure of being witness to some truly incredible moments from the Christian Dior Fashion Week show. Dior has rarely disappointed us, and this year was no exception. The French designer’s show featured some incredible looks, from billowing dresses to embellished pants. And of course, there was the fantastic Red Cardi, which you can see here.
One label that we’re always happy to see at New York Fashion Week is Balmain. The brand grasps the attention of the audience with its unique brand of over-the-top glamour.
Finally, we had the pleasure of being witnesses to some exceptional drama, as the shows came one after another. We were fortunate enough to catch sight of some legendary designer outfits, as well as some very interesting backstage stories. We will let our readers connect with these moments in the clothes they love. Here is our summary of the week that was.
Paris Fashion Week
- JOVANI: Autumn–Winter 2015–2016 collection
- Dior: Ready to wear and Haute Couture
- Chi Chi Mizi: Fall/Winter 2015
- Prada: Autumn/Winter 2015–2016
That was actually only part of the story. It was also the start of a new fashion season— Paris Fashion Week—and we couldn’t be more excited. Once again, we get to enjoy the best of both worlds; the crisp autumn air and the beautiful Parisian fashion scene.
There was a lot to look forward to this season, as Paris Fashion Week is one of the most prominent fashion events in the world. Besides showing us the fall/winter 2015 and 2016 collections, we were also treated to some exciting news regarding the house of Dior.
Rumors have been swirling around for months about Dior’s future, and the final season finally brings some much-needed clarity. After twenty-seven years, the House of Dior is set to close its doors for the final time. We’ll get to see a lot of the designers that made the brand famous in the coming months, as well as a chance to say goodbye to one of the most iconic houses in history.
The beginning of the week saw the showroom shut down as the employees were given two weeks’ notice. The brand is still determined to keep its prestigious status, and doesn’t foresee any immediate plans to reincarnate it. CEO Isabelle Guigou explains, “It was a very difficult choice. But we’ve decided that it is time for us to close the doors of the house of Dior. It’s not an easy decision, but it’s a decision that we believe is best for the future of the house.”
She continues, “I want to thank all of our staff for their dedication and commitment over the years. We have been through some tough times, but we’ve always managed to come back stronger. The house of Dior is a house that will be remembered for a very long time.”
It’s a sad day for fashion, as well as for those of us who have closely followed Dior over the years. We’ll miss the iconic house and its distinct style, but at least we can look forward to new exciting challenges.
London Fashion Week
- Prada: Autumn/Winter 2015–2016
- Saint Laurent: Autumn/Winter 2015
- Dior: Ready to wear and Haute Couture
- Burberry: Autumn/Winter 2015
London Fashion Week was another triumph for Prada. The Italian fashion house brought us its quintessential elegance and an incredible talent for sculptural knitwear. The Saint Laurent shows were met with great reviews, and the house is definitely on a roll. The French designer revealed a new interpretation of the classic leopard print.
We also got a glimpse of Kate Middleton’s highly anticipated wedding dress, seen here for the first time. The Duchess of Cambridge will marry Prince Harry next year, and the fashion world is already abuzz with speculations about what she’ll wear on her big day. It will be the talk of the town, and we’ll have an excuse to buy yet another pretty dress.
Milan Fashion Week
- Richemont: Annual Report
- Mikimoto: Autumn–Winter 2015
- Mikimoto: Resort
- Richemont: Winter 2015
- Prada: Autumn/Winter 2015
This week will be remembered for Richemont’s splendid annual report. The Swiss company posted some truly amazing numbers, and raised a lot of eyebrows in the process. The one-of-a-kind diamond industry leader is definitely feeling bullish about the future, and we can’t help but share in his optimism.
The jewel in the house of Mikimoto is perhaps the greatest symbol of luxury and success. As the exclusive importer of this precious stone, Mikimoto has created a unique piece of jewelry to celebrate its amazing taste. We were fortunate enough to see a preview of the Autumn/Winter 2015 collection, and it looks incredible. The master himself will determine the final price tag, so there’s no mistaking the significance of this piece of jewelry.

Fashion, as we know it, would not be here if it weren’t for the tireless work of some pretty talented women. This week we got to see some of the most stunning images of the year, as well as some very interesting stories behind them. Here is a recap of the most interesting news this week.
Bobbi Brown’s Inspiration
Bobbi Brown is an American makeup artist who saw a gap in the market for products designed with a B-boom in mind. The makeup artist came up with the ingenious idea of creating mini palettes of makeup to address the problem. In the past year alone, she has seen her sales increase by 30%.
It’s not everyday that we get to see such innovative thinking when it comes to makeup. When we think about beauty, we often think about trying to improve our appearance by using the latest beauty products. But sometimes, it’s the small things in life that can make a difference. This is one case where being “green” has paid off.
Isabeli’s Metamorphosis
Isabeli is a Swiss designer who started his career in the late 1980s and has since become one of the most recognizable luxury brands in the world. This year was a monumental year for the company, as it launched its new headquarters in Paris. We got to see some of the gorgeous designs that led to this exciting moment.
The brand is still very much a part of its roots, proudly displaying its Swiss heritage with an incredible array of handcrafted watches and fabulous fur stoles. As part of the new headquarters opening, Isabeli brought along some of his finest creations, as well as some of the most influential people in the fashion industry. This included Jean-Paul Gaultier, who has been associated with the brand for several years. It was a real treat to be able to see the two of them work together, as the designer grasps his future and past with one brilliant creation. Here’s a look at some of the breathtaking pieces that made this moment so special.
