If you’ve been following the recent news, you might know that former couple Rob and Kristen are no longer an item. Despite their break-up, the ‘Twilight’ stars still seem inseparable as they continue to work on their individual careers. While Rob takes on more serious roles, Kristen is currently filming a comedy with Kate Winslet.
Even though they’re no longer an item, it seems their relationship hasn’t cooled down as they continue to spend time together on and off-screen. The couple has been seen out and about in London, England where they were both filming earlier this year and have been photographed together numerous times.
While we’re happy to see our favorite stars getting matching tattoos (a la Bella and Edward), it’s not quite as pretty when it comes to making them look alike. In fact, comparing their photos side-by-side is pretty eerie… especially since they have different eye colors, facial hair, and clothing styles.
The truth is, it’s not easy to make two people look exactly alike. Even the most skilled make up artists can’t completely disguise their natural features. So if you want to truly pass off a look-alike, you’ll need to do some detective work. Luckily, make up artist extraordinaire Michael Cane has you covered. With a little sleuthing, you can uncover the exact makeup secrets used to make Rob Pattinson look exactly like Robert Pattinson.
Makeup Products Used
If you’ve been keeping up with the news, you might know that the ‘Twilight’ and ‘Beauty and the Beast’ stars had relatively simple and light makeup for their respective films. While Rob’s character Robert had a full face of makeup, including full-body prosthetics, Kristen’s character Victoria had a more minimalistic approach. So while Rob might have had 20+ products applied to his face, Victoria only had a few. This means Michael Cane had to be extra-laborious in applying her makeup.
According to various makeup artists, Victoria’s looks were mostly inspired by the character Rose in the 1992 film ‘Madea Goes to Jail’ starring Ruby Dee. Rose is a tough but beautiful jailbird who dons a full face of makeup which might not be the easiest look to emulate.
For Robert Pattinson, Cane used the Rimmel 5-in-1 Sculpting Cream to sculpt and contour his face, and applied it using the Elfi Luxury Face Palette in Carbon. Since Cane says that Robert Pattinson had a full face of prosthetics applied to him, he probably used Glamfuturism’s Full Face Transforming Mask to enhance his features.
How To Make Robert Pattinson’s Eyes Look Exactly Like Robert Pattinson
One of the first things that will catch your attention when you look at Robert Pattinson is his eyes. To make them look exactly like Robert Pattinson, Cane used a combination of techniques including, but not limited to the following:
- Black Paint
- Eye Makeup
All of these techniques were used to create a dead ringer for Robert Pattinson.
It’s been noted that Victoria’s eyes are a good match for her character’s surname. However, when you compare Rob’s eyes to Robert’s, it’s clear that Michael Cane did not use his own eyes to create the character. When asked about this, the artist revealed that he had his eyes done by a professional who used pigments to enhance the resemblance. This is how you make eyes exactly like someone else’s.
Get The Full Effect Of The Prosthetics On Rob Pattinson
When it comes to prosthetics, Rob Pattinson really outdid himself. Not only did he get the full effect of the prosthetics, but he also wore them for more than five hours in one scene. The prosthetics were so realistic that people were genuinely scared when they saw the movie.
There are a few techniques that Cane says that he used to make the prosthetics look even more realistic. For example, he used the Makeup Forever HD Flawless Skin Illuminator in Medium to illuminate and blur his skin’s imperfections and highlighted his features. He also tinted his lips using the Kiss Me lipstick in Ruby in a way that is subtle yet noticeable.
How To Make Robert Pattinson’s Hair And Beard Look Exactly Like Robert Pattinson
Now, a lot of people might not know this, but before ‘Twilight,’ Rob Pattinson had a pretty impressive beard. For those that don’t believe them, here’s photographic proof –>
To make his beard look even more impressive, Cane pulled out all the stops. First of all, he used a technique called hair sculpture to create a three-dimensional effect. Then, he used the Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Blush in Ruby, along with the Too Faced Chocolate Bar Eye Shadow and the Urban Decay All Nighter Stick in Lagoon as a pop of color on the lips. This is how you make the most of a simple and unblended beard.
To make the hair look even more authentic, Cane used a technique called hair sculpture. His main source of inspiration for the hair was the late, great Mae West. West is best known for her famous line “Nobody messes with me, because I’m beautiful.” When asked about the quote that he uses in his studio, Cane said…
“It drives women crazy, because they want to protect their men. Men are so weak, especially when it comes to women. We need all the help we can get.”
While it might be easy to look at these tips and think that they’re only about making a person look like another person, there’s a lot more to them. For example, when you look at Richard Simmons, you’ll note that he doesn’t really look like he belongs to any particular decade. When asked about this, Simmons revealed that he deliberately avoids using traditional makeup products and instead opts for more modern alternatives. This is why you have to dig a little deeper in your research if you really want to emulate a look-alike. For the best results, you might want to try out some of Michael Cane’s other techniques, such as the nose job or the lip implant.
