It’s been four years since the birth of Alexis, the Apple of Pete’s eye. Since then, Apple and Pete have become inseparable (well, almost – they have different colored flowers). They’re often found walking hand in hand or nuzzling each other on long drives. While Pete is content to enjoy his status as Apple’s man, Robert Pattinson can’t contain his desire to be more than just a friend.
We’re used to seeing the on-screen chemistry between Pattinson and his co-stars. Since 2010’s Twilight, we’ve seen him woo Kristen (formerly Pattinson) in New Moon, Bella (formerly Swan) in Eclipse, and finally, Esme (formerly Grey) in Breaking Dawn – Part 2. Yet, it’s been a while since we’ve seen him romantically attached to one of his co-stars. That is, until now.
When Pattinson started dating Kristen, most people just assumed that this was a phase, a publicity stunt, or a power play between the two leading men in the Twilight franchises. Little did they know how right they were.
Pattinson and Kristen’s blossoming romance has surprised everyone – including themselves. Over the past 18 months, they’ve shied away from the limelight and kept secret engagements under wraps. But now that they’re ready to make their relationship public, what will their engagement do for Pete’s acting career? Can this be the spark that reignites his?
New Moon
Pattinson plays James, a handsome and brooding vampire who falls for Kristen. Despite Robert’s good looks and charm, there’s something intense and compelling about James that makes him quite a dangerous vampire. His control over his animalistic urges is what initially draws Bella to him. While she initially attempts to seduce James into turning her, she eventually realizes his true nature and rejects him. James is one of the interesting characters in New Moon. His story arc is well-written and acted out beautifully. While Bella’s arc is also quite interesting, it doesn’t come close to the complexity of James’.
If you’ve never read the Twilight novels, here’s a short synopsis. James’ mother Alice (played by Anne Heche) is a witch who raises wolves for money. This is why James is a werewolf. His father, Charlie (played by Christian Slater), is a pure-blood vampire and a lawyer. He was once married to Alice, but they were separated when James was young. James and Charlie don’t get along, which is why James is so protective of Bella.
Eclipse
The final Twilight movie focuses on the trials and tribulations of Bella and Edward’s (Pattinson’s) quest for a child. This is a story about family, nature, and destiny. It’s interesting to watch how Bella’s journey evolves over the course of the film. From being weak willed and immature to a strong-willed and determined woman. She befriends a vampire, Renesmee (played by Mackenzie Mason) and gains new insights into the world around her. During the last leg of her trip, she realizes that she’s made a huge mistake trying to go it alone and returns to Charlie, who she left to pursue her own happiness.
If you’ve never read the Twilight novels, here’s a short synopsis. After breaking off their engagement and getting married, Edward and Bella try for a baby. Their marriage is tested as they both struggle with the idea of being exclusive. When Edward decides to take a job in another country, he leaves Bella with the unborn child and a house filled with werewolves. Bella becomes increasingly unstable, going through a series of miscarriages and finally giving birth to a daughter, Renesmee. After the birth, she learns that the father of her child is a vampire. When Edward returns and finds out what happened, he forces Bella to leave with him and their newborn daughter. After Bella gives birth to a second daughter, she realizes that Edward is keeping the girls from her and surrenders to the police. She eventually gets her daughters back and is able to have a more normal life with Edward and the children.
Breaking Dawn – Part 1
Breaking Dawn – Part 1 is the first film of the Twilight franchise’s final chapter. The movie picks up where Breaking Dawn – Part 2 left off. Bella is a young mother who struggles with her werewolf impulses and her desire to parent. While she raises her family in a calm and peaceful existence, she still has vampire instincts that get the best of her. She transforms into a blood-thirsty creature whenever she gets angry or upset. It’s an interesting contrast to the typically family-friendly Twilight films. Yet, it’s also what makes Bella so appealing. She is the ultimate mixed character – human and vampire, mother and monster, seductress and wife.
The premise of the film is quite interesting. After years in hiding, Bella decides to come out. She leaves her family – including toddler Emmett (portrayed by Finest hour’s Leo F. Williams III) – behind and starts a new life with Jacob (Pattinson) and his pack in an effort to give birth to a baby that will bridge the human and wolf worlds. Yet, the attempt to start a new life with Jacob ends in tragedy when Bella’s body rejects the baby she’s carrying. Despite this, Jacob’s pack raises the newborn as their own. They name her Eve. But what happens when a small group of humans are trapped in a giant animal’s body?

Breaking Dawn – Part 2
The second part of the Breaking Dawn saga picks up where Breaking Dawn – Part 1 left off. After Bella transforms into a monster and tries to kill Jacob and his family, he flees in search of the only person who can help him raise an army of werewolves to take revenge. This is where the story really gets interesting. It is a tale of love, betrayal, and redemption. The sequel is quite a bit darker than the original Twilight films and deals with some pretty heavy subject matter. Yet, it’s still a romantic drama with several twists and turns. It’s a true testament to the power of love and the complexities of a real relationship.
