It’s been a big summer for the Twilight movies. Not only did they score a huge hit with the release of the Twilight Saga: Eclipse, but they also saw two of the franchise’s biggest stars—Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart—get engaged.
The pair first sparked romance rumors when they were photographed hanging out together in New York City in May 2013. Since then, they’ve been inseparable, leading many to believe they might be tying the knot.
While Stewart has kept quiet about the engagement, speaking virtually no words since the beginning of the summer, she has finally broken her silence and opened up about the relationship. In a series of interviews, Stewart has discussed not only her wedding plans, but also the upcoming Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 and what the future holds for her and the Twilight movie franchise.
On Her Engagement And Wedding Plans
The actress sat down with Harper’s BAZAAR in London, England to discuss her engagement, wedding plans and the upcoming Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2. It was here that she officially announced that she and Pattinson were engaged:
“We got engaged in London. I don’t know if you know, he’s got a big family and he grew up in a big family, so he’s used to getting engagement proposals. I think it was just a really nice moment. It was really unexpected, but it’s really nice.”
The Daily Mail published a report on August 2, 2013 confirming that Stewart and Pattinson had indeed gotten engaged. The pair had previously been photographed holding hands outside a London church in February 2013, further fueling the speculation that they had indeed pledged their loyalty to one another.
On The Future Of The Twilight Movies
Stewart’s engagement to Pattinson may have brought an end to the Twilight movies; however, it certainly didn’t mean the end to her career. In fact, she might just be getting started. In the same interview, Stewart previews the future of the Twilight movies, as well as the series as a whole:
“Eclipse was the first time we’d really broken out of the box, as far as how we’d presented the Twilight characters before. It was a little more adult in the themes it touched on, and we got to explore more emotions in the characters. There was just so much more room to grow as artists and as people. So, I think what you’re going to see is a complete evolution of how we’ve presented these characters up until this point.”
When asked if she and Pattinson had any idea what type of story they wanted to tell with the Twilight franchise, Stewart said she and her partners had a clear idea of where they wanted to take the stories, despite the success of Eclipse:
“We knew very specifically what we were doing. I think it was a combination of a couple things. First of all, we wanted to do something different than we’d done before and not just repackage the same old vampire stuff, but also we had a clear idea of where we wanted to take it, which is somewhere more mature. We knew that we wanted to go beyond Twilight; we wanted to say something about life and not be restricted by the same old tropes and clichés that get tiresome.”
Twilight: The Complete Saga will be released in theaters on November 16, 2013. The sequel will reportedly continue the story of Bella and Edward’s (Pattinson and Stewart) quest to have children.
