It’s been a rough week for the Twilight fans. Not only have they had to endure another agonizing wait, but they also had to watch as their beloved cast got splashed all over the tabloids and Instagram. To make matters worse, even more scandalous photos of the Twilight cast have been published online. So, if you’re one of the many fans who’ve had their fill of the Cullen family and want to forget the whole debacle once and for all, then this is the article for you.
A Brief History Of The Twilight Saga
The Twilight series is one of the most successful of all time, selling over 450 million copies worldwide. The first movie was released in 2009 and became an immediate success, grossing over $680 million worldwide. The second movie was even bigger than the first, earning over $850 million at the box office. The film’s success was undoubtedly helped by the fact that it tapped into a zeitgeist: young people were flocking to see a movie that reflected their own generation. One of the most memorable quotes from the film is Jacob’s line to Bella: “You’re young, you’ll love again.” Indeed, most of the movie’s audience was between the ages of 18 and 24. So, it should come as no great surprise that all the films in the series are based on the #1 New York Times bestseller, Twilight.
Why Did This Film Star Robert Pattinson In The First Place?
The first Twilight movie was a coming-of-age story, set in the modern day. It follows Bella, a young college student who moves to a small town in order to live with her girlfriend, Alice. Once there, Bella meets the high-school kids of her new town and, as time passes, she begins to see them in a different light. She eventually becomes involved with one of the boys and, in order to protect her own safety, she has to leave town.
It was in the first Twilight movie that we first learned about Robert Pattinson. He had initially been introduced as “the bad boy actor” who would play Jacob. It was then revealed that his character would undergo a complete transformation and become the romantic lead in the second movie: Edward Cullen. So, in a way, the first Twilight movie was the “prototype” for the series as a whole.
If you’re wondering why Bella chose to fall for a bad boy in the first place, it’s because they were the most popular type of guy back in the day. According to a Hollywood Reporter piece from 2014, Robert Pattinson was earning over $50,000 a week at the time, which was a big chunk of change in the early 2000s. Naturally, the industry magazine wanted to know if Robert Pattinson had changed his ways and become a better actor since then. Here’s what they wrote: “When it comes to acting, few have been as fortunate as Robert Pattinson. Born in Great Britain to an international artist dad, he began his acting career at an early age, and has since starred in blockbusters such as the Twilight series and Kingsman: The Secret Service. The handsome Brit first came to the public’s attention for his role as Edward Cullen in the Twilight series, which centered on a romance between a human woman and a vampire. The franchise began with the critically acclaimed 2009 film, Twilight, and continued with the blockbuster sequel, New Moon, which was released in 2011.
After starring in the Twilight series, Robert Pattinson went on to take on more challenging roles in movies such as Mad Max: Fury Road, Jupiter Ascending and Zwartfitters. Most notably, he played the titular character in the critically acclaimed 2017 biopic, Pattinson.
Is This The End For The Twilight Saga?
After going through three books in the Twilight series and seeing all of its sequels, it’s clear that the end is nowhere in sight. In fact, it seems that author Stephenie Meyer has an entire “afterlife” planned for her vampires: there will be a fourth Twilight movie, a sequel to Jupiter Ascending and a prequel to Frankenstein. All these films will supposedly focus on the Volturi and how they fit into Meyer’s elaborate alternate universe. So, it would appear that there is plenty more story to tell about these vampire characters. The future of the Twilight franchise looks very bright indeed.
