The first question that comes to mind when you hear about actor Robert Pattinson and model Kristen Stewart is: Is he a good role model for young guys? After all, he’s been in the media for the past year for his numerous relationships with young women. But what is a good role model? Is he a role model for being famous? For being rich? For being handsome? For being a good father? Is he a good role model for young guys because he is a young guy? Or because he is famous?
Let’s take a look at the facts before we make any decisions. First of all, let’s not sugarcoat things; he is, without a doubt, a bit of a player. To use a phrase commonly associated with the tennis world, he can be, at times, “a bit too much” for some women. However, that doesn’t mean he is a bad guy. Far from it, in fact. It just means he is not for everyone. As for whether he is a good role model for young guys, that really depends on what kind of young guys you mean. Do you mean young actors looking for inspiration? Or does “good role model” mean anything more subtle, like being an intelligent and respectful person?
Some context: There is a common misconception that all celebrities are good role models for young people. This is particularly the case for actors, who are usually considered “movie stars,” and therefore automatically assumed to be good role models. While there is certainly no arguing that many, if not most, celebrities are influential and admired by youngsters, it does not necessarily follow that they are good role models. Here is a short guide to the meaning of “good role model” as used by different people in different contexts:
For Young Women: Physical Attractiveness
When a woman claims that a particular celebrity is a good role model for young women, what does she mean? In most cases, it means that she admires his physical appearance and therefore decides to emulate it. This could mean anything from wearing trendy outfits to going on a diet to avoid becoming like him. One can’t help but wonder whether this is truly the best way to motivate young women, who are already influenced by popular culture in an unprecedented way. Why not inspire them to be their best selves, rather than trying to change them into what you believe to be acceptable “role models”?
As A Parent, You Have The Responsibility To Set Good Examples For Your Child
Whether you’re a parent or not, you have a responsibility to set good examples for your children. When you have children of your own, you discover that it is not always easy to be a role model. You want the best for them, but sometimes you don’t know what is best for them. This is why every parent worries about their children finding their way into the wrong hands and getting into trouble. When this happens, it is usually the parent’s fault for not being there to protect them. Still, you have a responsibility to set an example for your children, even if it’s not always clear what this example should be. You want them to be happy and to follow the path you set for them, but you also don’t want to jeopardize their lives, either, especially if you set an example of behaving recklessly or inappropriately.
For Older And/Or Confident Women: Respect
Respect is one of the most important things in any relationship. It doesn’t matter who you are with or what gender you are; if you want to respect someone, you have to show them that you value them. One of the best things you can do for a struggling young woman (whether your daughter, a friend, or a student) is to prove to her that she can have confidence in herself and her opinions. This is why older and/or more confident women typically consider themselves good role models for young women. By accepting them for who they are, while still giving them good advice and guidance, they inspire the younger generation to be their best selves.
Whether or not you agree with these women, they are definitely good role models for young women. It is important to keep in mind that they are not always perfect, perfect parents, perfect siblings, or perfect friends. They make mistakes just like the rest of us, but they do it with more experience and, at times, with more courage. For whatever reason, they have chosen to be in a position of influence over young women, and it is our responsibility as men to recognize and appreciate this.
Does Robert Pattinson make a good role model for young men? Of course he does. He is young and, as mentioned before, quite a player. What type of player? Well, like many famous men, he has the tendency to date and/or marry women who are much younger than himself. These women, usually very beautiful and sometimes even underage, are considered “groupies” by the media and others who love to judge. It is this judgmental attitude that sometimes gets him in trouble. One has to wonder what would happen if he decided to date and/or marry a woman who is a few years older than him. Would that be good or bad? Would society accept it or condemn it? Would it make him a better or a worse role model for young men?
If we take a closer look at some of the individuals who are considered good role models for young people, we will discover that some of them are and others are not. Does this mean that we should just throw away our celebrity idols? Of course not. It just means we have to be careful about what we are and/or where we are going in our life. If we want to be successful, smart, and independent, we have to realize that not everybody will think the same way we do. The only way we can avoid this is by being our best selves, which is something that any role model worth their salt will tell you to do.
