This week, news broke of actor Robert Pattinson’s newest hobby – signing autographs. The Huffington Post quoted a source as saying, “He is obsessed with creating memorabilia and collecting autographs of famous people – mostly actors. When he finishes a picture or movie, he usually goes straight to the post office to send out a bunch of autographs he has signed in the past week.”
The 30-year-old is no stranger to celebrities and hobbies already. In fact, he is most likely to be known for his involvement in the 2012 reunion pic ‘CosmoVixen‘, in which he played a reclaimed alien who befriended a couple of girls. He also appeared in a video for the band Romeo Gucci blowing out a napkin on Chocolate Factory Cupcakes. And for those interested in the literature of the mighty Pattinson, they may want to check out his 2011 debut novel, Bel Ami. The following is an overview of some of the hobbies of this legendary actor.
Mountain Climbing
We all know that Robert Pattinson is a skilled mountaineer. In fact, the younger sibling of the Bonjoro Pattinson niece and heir to the fortune of the Pattinson family stake hold of the Pattinson name, he is an avid climber, especially in the US mountains. The Huffington Post quoted a source saying that Robert Pattinson, who was born in London and raised in North America, “is an outdoor sports fanatic who really wants to test himself against the oreilles (the mountain range) one day.”
In fact, Pattinson has participated in a climb up the Everest Summit, which is located in the Mount Everest area of Tibet. He also joined a group of English rock climbers on an adventure trip to the Sta Maja in Sardinia, Italy. On this latter trip, the English rock climbers participated in the first ever climbing of the North Face of the Majella Cave. The climb was part of an experiment to chronicle the route that the ancient inhabitants of Europe would have taken to reach their spiritual breathing places. This was historically significant as this face of the mountain had been off-limits to civilized man for centuries.
Pattinson is also known for his interest in ballroom dancing and for taking part in dance courses with the ambitious aim of improving his social life. He has also taken part in wedding dresses challenges, where he attempts to find the most beautiful wedding dress for his niece. And, for those interested, he is a qualified scuba diver.
Mountain Biking
The passion for mountain biking also appears to be in the direct line of the bonjoro branch of the Pattinson family. After all, it was a Pattinson heir who pioneered the form of biking known as mountain biking. According to reports, Renny Pattinson (nephew of Robert Pattinson) is responsible for creating the first modern mountain bike. The Huffington Post quoted a source as saying, “The wheel was first conceived as a means of transporting passengers and lumber for the Bonjoro family businesses, but it was Renny who first thought of using it to scale mountains for biking purposes.”
Renny Pattinson is also responsible for the design of the Tiger Bikes range of vehicles. These bikes were first produced in 1973 and they are still considered amongst the most advanced bikes of their time. The Tiger Bikes, named for the Tiger mountain, were originally designed for use in Thailand and other tropical climates, but they have found a home in the mountain states of America as well (mostly in the West where the Tiger mountain can be seen).
Scuba Diving
It was on a trip to the Marianas Islands that Robert Pattinson finally found time to test his skill as a scuba diver. The Huffington Post quoted a source as saying that he “quickly became obsessed with the sport and learnt to relax and have fun while underwater. He has now qualified as a pro diver with PADI (Professional Open Diving Instruction) and is looking to compete in shorter tours around the world in the coming year.”
Motorcycle Racing
It is not just a passing fancy of Robert Pattinson’s to try out a new hobby after completing a film or book – he is, in fact, a legendary motorcycle racer. According to reports, he races off-road in endurance riding and adventures to prove a point about himself in the media. The Huffington Post quoted a source as saying, “He feels there is a media fascination with his private lives, and he enjoys racing to give himself a sense of purpose in a world that can be so unpredictable and changeable.”
