Last week, we brought you the news that Robert Pattinson was “finished” with his engagement to Twilight star Kristen Stewart. The actor took to Instagram to share some cute pictures of himself and Stewart, and also shared a few revealing ones of himself in the shower. While he may have been trying to keep the shower pictures a secret, the internet never ceases to find juicy morsels for its gossip maws.
But now that Robert has officially called off the engagement, let’s take a minute to reminisce on some of the most memorable moments from this tumultuous relationship.

The first photo of Robert and Stewart together was actually a candid snap that the actor shared on Instagram back in April. The pair were photographed walking hand-in-hand in London while seemingly wrapped in an embrace. As mentioned above, their fans were left reeling from the shock announcement. And while lots of messages of support were posted on Stewart’s Instagram account afterward, some fans weren’t very sympathetic. The 21 Savage rapper shared a cryptic message on Instagram, writing: “If [you’re] really [that] into [her], [you] can get [her] by [you’re]self.”

Since this is a story that we’ve been following for the past four years, it’s only natural that fans would want to know more about Stewart and Pattinson’s split. According to Stewart, it was difficult for them to keep their romance a secret from the public because of the nature of their relationship. She explained in Vogue:
“We tried to keep our relationship a secret because we didn’t want the paparazzi to follow us around and harass us,” she said. “But it was difficult. I think that in this day and age, it’s so difficult not to be seen in public with your loved one. Now that we’re done with that part, I think it would be cool to see us as a couple in public. As mentioned above, there have been numerous rumours about Stewart and Pattinson’s breakup, but it was recently confirmed that they have indeed split up. While they may have tried to keep their romance a secret for the sake of their careers, it’s clear that it was more than just about image. Stewart admitted that they were experiencing tension in their relationship, and that it became unworkable. In an age where everyone is constantly changing partners, it’s easy to see how this could happen.
