Robert Pattinson is one of the most popular actors today. He’s mostly known for playing in movies like “Twilight” and “Belle”. However, he’s quickly becoming known for another role as well. The British actor is currently appearing in the movie “The Lighthouse” as Captain Arthur Meeks. The movie also stars Laura Dern and Uma Thurman. So far, the reviews for “The Lighthouse” have been great. The majority of people who’ve seen it have said that it’s “beautiful” and “well-acted”. And, of course, there’s that one scene where Captain Meeks is shirtless. Let’s take a look at that scene….
Shirtless Scenes Aren’t New
It seems like everyone wants a piece of Robert Pattinson these days. He’s been in a movie musical, a horror movie, and a drama. And now he’s adding another dimension to his repertoire when he appears in the new movie “The Lighthouse” as Captain Arthur Meeks. The role will probably be known for a long time as “The Shirtless Pirate Captain”.
It’s not the first time that a Hollywood star has been in a movie with several shirtless scenes. Sometimes it’s a way to show a bit more skin and therefore sex appeal (see: Channing Tatum in “Step Brothers” or Jonah Hill in “War Dogs”). Sometimes it’s about going au naturelle (see: John Travolta in “Heat”). And sometimes it’s just a way to show off the costumes (see: Christian Bale in “Vice”).
What’s interesting about “The Lighthouse” is that Robert Pattinson has taken a more dramatic turn than we’ve seen him in before. This isn’t the cheeky actor from “Twilight” and “Belle” that we know and love. Instead, he’s embodying a character that is a mix of the serious and the sensual. Something tells me that this is a role that the actor hasn’t even considered for a while. Maybe it was that time that he spent in rehab for his heroin addiction. Or maybe it was that role as King George in the Oscar-winning “The King’s Speech” that helped push him in this direction.
Why Is Captain Meeks So Succesful In “The Lighthouse”?
Let’s face it – the role of Captain Arthur Meeks in “The Lighthouse” is pretty darn famous. It’s one of the most sought-after roles in Hollywood right now. The character of Meeks is a mix of the serious and the sensual. The only reason he’s wearing a shirt in most of the scenes in the movie is because he usually has on some form of armor. He wears the shirt to cover up the armor underneath. He doesn’t want the crew to know that he’s protecting them from the salty air of the North Sea in the middle of the British countryside. With the wind and the rain and the sun all year round, he’s basically covered in tattoos. And the best part is that he’s not ashamed to show them off. He wears his heart on his sleeve, literally.
He’s also incredibly charming and likeable – which is surprising considering that he’s a fictional character. The captain gets along with everyone. Even Laura Dern, who plays his wife, thinks that he’s a decent person. He wins her over despite her initial skepticism. So, essentially, he’s a success in every way.
It’s pretty clear that the role of Captain Meeks in “The Lighthouse” is a win-win for Robert Pattinson. He gets to show off his amazing body and he gets to be the only one showing off his body. It doesn’t hurt that the movie is set in the early 1900s and therefore hasn’t changed much since. This allows for plenty of outfits where he’s not wearing a shirt. And, of course, there’s that one scene where he’s completely shirtless. It doesn’t get much better than that.
