Here is some good news for Robert Pattinson fans: His latest video has finally arrived! The “Bafta” nominee and proud owner of an Academy Award has been hard at work on a new project, and it is something we have all been waiting for: an R-rated music video!

The video, which is directed by Harmony Korine and has a cameo from none other than Edward Norton, is a vivid, colorful depiction of the actor’s decadent lifestyle. The clip is set in an alternate universe where, if you’re a pop star, everyone bows down before you and your every desire is fulfilled. Even the most diehard Pattinson fans may find it hard to watch without feeling a tinge of jealousy.

Not Your Typical Music Video

Korine’s direction is a far cry from the actor’s previous music videos, which were more introspective and featured him in different guises, sometimes even shirtless! This is also the first R-rated music video that Pattinson has released, and it seems that he wanted to go all the way and embrace his inner deviant. The video opens with Edward Norton, who plays the role of “The Media Mogul,” introducing us to the decadent lifestyle of Jagger-esque rock star Robert Pattinson.

From there, we get to see a dizzying array of over-the-top decadence, from interiors that ooze opulence to a stunning array of expensive automobiles, a massive home, and an extravagant performance by Pattinson that sees the actor cavorting with a group of beautiful women in varying states of undress. The video’s climax sees Pattinson engaging in an orgy with two women, one of whom is played by Australian pop star Kylie Minogue.

Pattinson’s Sexiest Scene

One of the more eye-catching visual tropes in the video is the presence of a huge mirror that dominates nearly every scene. Indeed, watching the video in sequence with the mirror in place can feel like a bit of a bait-and-switch, as it is used to great effect in several scenes to reflect the camera, the lighting, the action, or whatever the director wants to show us. For example, in one scene, a shirtless Pattinson stands in front of the mirror as he applies eye makeup, and the reflection is used to great effect as he watches himself through the mirror’s reflective surface.

While the video may not be for the faint of heart, it is hard to deny that Pattinson looks incredible as he throws caution to the wind and indulges in self-pleasure. It is also hard to look away as he seduces a woman in a bathtub, and it is here, in the video’s most sensual scene, that the Academy Award winner really shows off his incredible physique and smoldering charisma. In an interview with Wonderland Magazine, Pattinson admitted that he put on 12 pounds of muscle for the role and that, yes, he really enjoys taking baths.

Why Did He Keep Us Waiting So Long?

We all knew that the 48-year-old actor was going to direct a music video for his latest album, but we wondered when it would happen. The first hints of the upcoming project came in April 2016, when a photo of an all-male group, including Pattinson, surfaced with the hashtag “#SleepingWithGod” on Instagram, suggesting that he may be prepping to launch his own religion. In fact, according to Page Six, the hashtag later referred to Pattinson’s involvement in a kinky sex cult that worships him as a God.

Pattinson subsequently addressed the rumors in an interview with Vogue, stressing that he is not involved with a “cult” but rather enjoys spending quality time with his kids and friends while pursuing his acting career. However, the rumors didn’t die, and in November, an insider told HollywoodLife that the musician is currently gearing up to shoot a music video for his new album that will likely be released in early 2018.

Korine on the Set

Harmony Korine, the director of the film, made his debut with the indie darling 2002’s Kids, which was followed by his 2010 smash comedy, I Love You, Man. Most recently, Korine directed the acclaimed documentary The Comedian and was one of the producers of the forthcoming BlacKkKlansmen. As you may have guessed, he has a thing for musicals. The director discussed his connection to the movie in a recent interview with Variety.

“I’ve always been a huge fan of [Pattinson’s] work, and when he contacted me about this, it was an opportunity not to be missed,” Korine said. “I really like that he took a step back from his typical handsome-guy roles and put himself in this character, which is a little more vulnerable. I think it’s interesting to see someone who is traditionally very swoon-worthy playing a character who is more three-dimensionally human.”

Korine added that the fact that there is an R-rating attached to the video should not be a cause for concern. “I don’t think it’s a tricky subject,” he said. “It’s more of a comment on the times we live in, that this sort of content is becoming more acceptable and less classified. I think it’s cool that he’s not afraid to explore these ideas and be honest about them.”

What Is Next for Pattinson?

Kylie Minogue, who plays one of the women in the orgy scene, later confirmed on Instagram that she will be returning to Australia for a special performance at the 2018 NRL Grand Final in December. “Huge thanks to everyone who came to see me at the [2017] NRL Grand Final in New Zealand. I love it there!,” she said.

Despite appearing in a number of music videos, this will be his first time singing on-camera and the first time that he has graced the big screen with an Academy Award-winning performance. It also marks a significant milestone for the actor, whose previous music videos, aside from those directed by Korine, focused largely on his life as a bachelor.

Pattinson has yet to publicly confirm whether or not he will be pursuing a career in music, but judging by his involvement in the creation of the video, one might assume that the answer is yes. As for the future, well, at the ripe old age of 48, time certainly has not been wasting on this Golden Heart winner.
