We’re not sure which movie Rob Pattinson is referring to when he says he’s Batman, but we’re pretty sure it’s not the newest blockbuster by the name of The Dark Knight Rises. We’re also pretty sure it’s not the original Batman movie from 1966 directed by William Castle (which was also the basis for the 1966-68 TV series starring Adam West). He did make another comment about being “a good guy”, but that could mean just about anything. This week the actor was interviewed by InStyle and he opened up about his personal life, working on the set of the Twilight series and…being Batman?

Is He Single?

Yes, Rob is single. The 31-year-old actor is dating American actress Kristen Stewart since December 2011, but they broke up in April 2014 after just 68 days of dating. They started dating after she appeared in a series of Twilight movies, and it’s been described as “a very happy union”. The couple has collaborated on several projects, including the upcoming biopic Certain Woman and film Clouds Over California, which was released this year.

More Mature, Not a Toyboy

Rob isn’t like the other Hollywood stars who were children when they became famous. He made his acting debut at the age of 14 in 2005’s The Farewell and he hasn’t looked back since. “I kind of pride myself on being a well-rounded actor, as opposed to just being a pretty face or an athletic body or a comedy sidekick,” he said. “I think that being able to do all those things makes me a much more interesting actor to watch, more mature I think, than just someone who appears to be grown-up.” He continued: “I see actors, especially in America, who are very traditional in their behavior. They’re very much like boys playing at being grown-up.” He’s definitely not playing at being grown-up; in fact, we think he’s more like a fully-grown adult who happens to be a very successful and very attractive teenager. Hollywood, you have a new king. For now, at least.

More Than Meets The Eye

When it comes to the Twilight films, there’s more to Rob than just his acting talent. He’s a producer on the series as well, and has been involved with every movie from the very beginning. In addition to that, he wrote the screenplay for the first film, which is based on the best-selling book of the same name. He also worked as a production coordinator on the set of Twilight, and was promoted to co-producer for the films’ final installment, Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2. He’s not only involved in the project as an actor and a producer, but he also plays a significant role in the story as well. If you’re unfamiliar, Rob plays the role of Edward Cullen, a handsome and wealthy vampire who is the father of Bella (played by Kristen Stewart) and who falls head over heels in love with her when she’s 17 years old. In real life, Edward is 42 years old, which is why he doesn’t look like he’s in love in the movies. In the comics, Edward is married to Bella and they have three children together: Renesmee, Aro, and Emmett. In the series, Edward is described as “a dangerous and unpredictable predator” and although he’s over 300 years old, he still has the appearance of a boyish man. Perhaps that’s why he’s often referred to as “The Boy Who Loved Only Books” in the comics. It seems that Rob isn’t just a pretty face after all.

An Actor\’s Actor

When it comes to his acting career, Rob is very grateful to the fans who have supported him over the years. “I’ve been acting since I was a little kid and I grew up in the theatre, so it was always a given that I would end up an actor,” he said. “I’m just so pleased that I was able to make the career I always dreamed about as a kid.” He’s also been very selective in the roles he chooses, typically playing complicated or interesting characters. “I want to be known for playing complex or interesting characters because I think there’s a lot more to me than people see on the screen,” he said. “I guess I want to prove to people that they’re not just as drawn to me because I’m a pretty face.” If you’re unfamiliar, Rob has a unique way of choosing his roles; oftentimes he’ll seek out the script first before reading the parts, which can help him to find the right vibe for the character. The same thing happened with Edward Cullen in Twilight. He read the part of Edward and immediately knew that he needed to play the part, but he had to wait until he read the entire script before he could find out more about Edward’s past.

Making A Difference

While some actors might use their platform for self-promotion and to try to sell more popcorn at the movies, Rob is using his influence in a different way. He wants to be known for being a humanitarian and using his position to help those in need. “I think that being an actor is a gift, but I also think that there’s something more that I can offer,” he said. “I’ve been lucky enough to be surrounded by some incredible professionals who helped me to evolve as an individual and as a person, to work through my demons in a healthy way, and to help other people do the same.” He continues: “I’m not saying that everyone should be an actor, but if you’re reading this, maybe you should consider acting as a means to an end, as opposed to just a way of life.” He’s continued to use his position in a positive way, working with organizations like the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), which he helped to found. He donated 200,000 meals to people in need as part of the organization’s “Meal for America” campaign and he’s actively involved in several other humanitarian causes. While some might think that he’s just another pretty face in Hollywood, his true colors may be hidden beneath his good looks.
