Robert Pattinson is arguably the hottest young British actor working today, and for good reason. The 27-year-old actor has featured in some of the biggest films of our time, including the “Harry Potter” and “Twilight” series. With so much going on in his career, it’s hard to keep track of all of his projects, so let’s take a closer look at what roles Pattinson has played in the ‘Harry Potter’ series and how he fits into the story lines.
The ‘Harry Potter’ Movies
Pattinson has proven time and time again that he can hold his own against some of film’s greatest legends. The British actor recently starred in the highly anticipated “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” alongside main cast members Harry Potter and Daniel Radcliffe. The film had just under 50 million worldwide theatrical showings and became the second-highest-grossing film of this year, behind only “The Dark Knight.”
Before this year’s “Harry Potter” installments, Pattinson played Cedric Diggory in the final movie in the “Harry Potter” series, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1.” Diggory is a Gryffindor student and one of the four champions who fights against Voldemort at the end of the book series. In the films, he is portrayed by David Bradley, and it is one of Pattinson’s earliest film roles. He also starred in Ridley Scott’s “Holloway Road,” a French film directed by Olivier Nakache, which was nominated for the Palme d’Or at Cannes Film Festival in 2012.
Pattinson’s performance in “Deathly Hallows – Part 1” earned him numerous accolades. He was nominated for the BAFTA for Best Actor in a Supporting Role and won the British Academy of Film and Television Awards for BAFTA Rising Star Award. He continues to show his acting prowess in the upcoming “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” alongside co-star J.K. Rowling, as well as in the highly anticipated “Pirates of the Caribbean” series, the next installment of which is slated for a 2017 release.
Where Does He Fit In?
Even with all this acting know-how, Pattinson still finds himself playing supporting roles as he makes his way to the top. So far, he has mostly played secondary or tertiary characters in most of his blockbusters, with the exception of the aforementioned “Deathly Hallows” parts. This is most likely due to his efforts to keep a low profile while earning his place in the Hollywood firmament. The “Twilight” actor has kept a relatively low-profile since his breakout role as Edward Cullen in the vampire romance series. He has mostly appeared in smaller theaters and on TV, with supporting roles in films such as “Water for Elephants” and “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy,” among others.
Pattinson has stated that he does not want to be typecast as a vampire or a werewolf, and it seems that this is exactly what is happening. While he has proven that he is more than capable of taking on the greatest acting challenges, his future as a leading man remains to be seen.
The Future Ahead
With his upcoming roles in “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” and “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” coupled with his upcoming turn as the lead in the British gangster film “Only God Forgives,” it seems that our guess is as good as yours as to what role Pattinson will play in the future. Only time will tell.
