He may not be the best-known face in Hollywood these days, but actor Robert Pattinson is certainly making the most of his time in the spotlight. Not only did he bag a Golden Globe for his portrayal of the scandalous and iconic character of Kurt Weller in the indie film adaptation of Deborah Davis’ best-selling novel, The Silver Linings Playbook, but he also nabbed a Supporting Actor nomination at the 2014 Academy Awards.

With so much talk of his acting prowess and Hollywood swagger, it’s no wonder that Robert Pattinson has garnered so much attention. And now that he’s single, fans are wondering if he’s interested in tying the knot – or if he’d rather focus on his career and live a life of luxury.

While he may not share any physical traits with the King of Hollywood, it’s clear that Robert Pattinson has inherited much of his charisma and charm. Could he be the next big thing in Hollywood? Let’s take a closer look:

A Family Member of Elvis

Robert Pattinson is the son of actor Keith Pattinson and stepson of Marjorie Merriweather Post, better known as the “Queen of Advertising.” He is also the nephew of Elizabeth Taylor and the great-grandson of Marjorie Merriweather Post. You may not have heard of her, but she was a very famous socialite in the 1920s and ’30s who used to host famous soirees at her home in Connecticut. The guest list would usually include celebrities from all walks of life!

To this day, Elizabeth Taylor is the only person with whom Marjorie Merriweather Post shared a birthday. And let’s not forget about her famous friendships with the Duchess of Windsor and Senator Joseph McCarthy. It’s clear that Robert Pattinson has inherited her social graces and charm, and it’s not hard to see why she was such an influential figure in society during that time period. Her parties were so glam that even Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, famously attended one such soiree in 1929. It was at one of these parties that Elizabeth Taylor first met Frank Sinatra.

With friends like these, it’s no wonder that Robert Pattinson has been surrounded by famous faces most of his life. He was born in London and attended school in the UK, before moving to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career.

An Actor to Be Reckoned With

In case you’re wondering, yes, Robert Pattinson is quite the character, don’t you think? One of the things that makes him such an exceptional actor is that he brings a depth of humanity to his roles. Sometimes he plays the parts of cold, calculated killers who are completely without feelings or empathy. But then he’ll play the parts of small-town dreamers who are eager to believe in love. And it’s the parts of those dreamers that make him so watchable, because what’s more watchable than a guy who really wants to believe in love?

It’s not just his work ethic and dedication that make him such an exceptional actor, either. He’s definitely got the looks – and that smile. The great Dane actor Henrik Holck described him as someone who “walks and talks like a movie star.” And let’s not forget about that body. I mean, come on, he was in those Harry Potter movies, for goodness’ sake!

But it’s not hard to see why fans fell in love with him in the Harry Potter films – he’s got that magical sparkle in his eye that makes him so likeable. Director J.K. Rowling even said that she didn’t have to write a single word of the character of Ron Weasley’s (Pattinson’s) monologue in the first Harry Potter movie, because his acting alone made it so entertaining to read.

And the way he delivers those lines! It’s not often that fans of Harry Potter get to say that about a non-Potter character, but his performance as Charlie Bucket in the film adaptation of Stephen Chbosky’s The Cinderella Tales is what really earned him a special place in movie history. And let’s not forget about the part he played in David O. Russell’s The Fighter, either. His portrayal of a boxer struggling with ambition and confidence is one of the film’s most memorable scenes.

All these amazing performances aside, it’s not like Robert Pattinson has had trouble finding roles. He’s been in a lot of movies, including The Lost Symbol, which starred the Duchess of Cambridge and was based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Dan Brown. He played Brown’s nemesis, the French architect Leo Delabere (below, left), in a very interesting twist on the classic rivalry between a literary and an architectural genius. And let’s not forget about his cameo as a zookeeper in the James Bond film, Skyfall, which came out last year. It was the third-highest-grossing Bond film of all time, behind only Dr. No and You Only Live Twice, and it became the first Bond film to snag a five-star rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

So if you ever wanted to see a role that was entirely based on charisma, brains, and charm, then Rob Pattinson is your man. And let’s face facts: if you have to ask “is he interested in…?”, then he probably isn’t.

A Different Kind of Family

No matter what role he’s playing, Robert Pattinson makes the drama behind the scenes something to look out for as well. He’s often been known to throw on costumes and fake mustaches (above, right) for his roles. And he doesn’t just stop at costumes, either – he’ll get into character by sleeping in the makeup room. He even slept in the makeup room after playing the part of a drug lord in the thriller, Under the Sun, which came out last year. What’s more, he refused to leave the set, even when the camera stopped rolling. He didn’t want to miss a moment of the drama that was unfolding before his eyes.

While he’s always been known to have a good time on set, Robert Pattinson can get serious when necessary. One of the roles that he played that was based on a true story was that of a homicide detective in the movie, Lie to Me. To get into character, he would spend hours on set watching crime dramas and eating pizza. He learned a lot from studying the emotional and physical responses of various FBI agents, and incorporated that into his own acting. It was during this research that he developed an interest in the field of psychology. While he has always been known to have a kind heart, he used to work very hard as a young actor and was driven by his studies and learning.

There’s no question that Robert Pattinson is a talented actor, and it’s not hard to see why his previous relationships with Hollywood stars haven’t hindered his career. He’s got a bright future as long as he keeps playing lead or support roles. And if he ever decides to branch out into directing, producing, or writing, we’re sure that he’ll do very well.
