Last month, it was officially announced that Robert Pattinson would play the role of The Dark Knight in the upcoming Batman movie. Since then, there have been a lot of speculations about his appearance as the infamous caped crusader. Fans of the movie have already shown their excitement by creating dozens of Halloween-themed memes featuring the British actor. But did he really have to go the extra mile to impress the fans?
While we empathize with the actor’s desire to look the part of the legendary superhero, it is highly unlikely that he actually had to work hard to achieve his Batman-look. The Daily Mail reports that the 32-year-old has been using performance-enhancing drugs for years and admits to a life-changing addiction. Unfortunately, this revelation will come as a huge disappointment to his many Bat-fans.
According to anonymous sources cited by the tabloid, Robert Pattinson has been taking steroids for years to achieve the ripped physique that would make him stand out above the other actors in the movie. This included anabolic steroids, human growth hormone, and insulin. He reportedly also used a tanning bed which caused him to turn orange due to hyper-melanosis.
The British actor has always been open about his struggles with addiction and has even dedicated a song to his experiences, titled “Mad Hippie”. Back in 2014, he told Vanity Fair: “I’ve struggled with addiction my whole life and it nearly killed me. I’ve been clean for over two years and, actually, I feel pretty good. I want to make sure people know the signs and realize that they are not alone.”
We can relate to the singer-songwriter’s sentiments as we, too, have battled with addiction. Fortunately, we were able to beat addiction and the signs that Robert Pattinson experiences can be a source of inspiration for those who are still battling the disease. Maybe meeting his addictions head-on was the key to his long and healthy sobriety.
What Is Steroids?’
If you’re not familiar, steroids are a class of hormone drug that controls the body’s natural hormone production. They are most commonly used by athletes to boost their natural production of testosterone, but they can also be used to enhance female libido and grow muscles. Because of their ability to increase steroid production, athletes often depend on steroids to get the edge they need to win. But, in the wrong hands, steroids can cause serious damage.
Steroids are the synthetic versions of the human hormones called androgens, which are formed in the body from testosterone. Anabolic steroids are synthetic versions of testosterone that are more potent than the naturally-produced hormone. Because of this increased potency, steroids can be more dangerous and addicting than natural testosterone. Some people also refer to steroids as “chemical androgens” because they increase the risk of cancer and other diseases associated with testosterone.
It’s important to keep in mind that there are many different types of steroids; some are designed to be taken by mouth and some are injected. They all have very different properties and side effects, which are why it’s important to know the differences before you start using them.
Why Are Steroids/HGH Behind the Success of Batman?’
The most interesting thing about Robert Pattinson’s decision to use steroids for the role of The Dark Knight is how closely the drug seems to mirror the trajectory of his career. After a fairly uneventful acting debut in the band biopic The Place Beyond The Paddocks in 2002, his star started to rise thanks to a string of hit films, notably the Twilight and Dark Shadows series. In 2012, he achieved widespread popularity with his portrayal of the enigmatic English painter and artist, William Blake.
Interestingly, in 2016, the musician/artist published a book, Bodypainting, which dealt with his experience of fame. In it, he talked about the toll that fame had taken on his health, including his drug use. He even said he had considered killing himself because he wasn’t enjoying life. It’s clear that Robert Pattinson has been struggling with his identity for years, and this yearning for self-destruction is what led him to try and save himself through the help of steroids.
Won’t This Be Discouraging For His Bat-Fans?
It’s important to remember that, while some people may see Robert Pattinson’s decision to use steroids as a serious mistake, it’s quite the opposite for his many fans. Many of them are ecstatic about the news and can’t wait to see the British actor put his acting chops to the test as the Dark Knight. It will be interesting to see how he portrays the iconic superhero because, as we’ve established, he has been hiding his identity from the world for years.
It’s possible that the 32-year-old actor never intended to reveal who he truly was. Maybe he was just trying to protect himself from addiction. Whatever the case may be, his decision to use steroids will not only give his fans a new reason to celebrate but may also help others who are struggling with identity issues find the strength to fight their demons. Just like Bruce Wayne, they may see in Robert Pattinson an example of someone who has faced their own personal challenges and triumphantly risen above them.
