If you’re fortunate enough to have a few thousand followers on social media, you might just know what they’re talking about when they mention Robert Pattinson and his incredible water collection.
The actor and musician curated an art collection that features more than 100 animal-themed sculptures created from recycled bottles, cans, and paper. The collection—which stands for “Refill! Recycle! Regreen!”—is on display at the Brewery Art Centre in Yorkshire, England, and it’s amazing.
It appears that Robert Pattinson was inspired by Kaws’ environmental art collection, “Bottles and Stones.” The two previously collaborated on the soundtrack to the 2015 film, “Good Time,” and they also shot the music video for the song “The Sun and the Rain” together.
According to Metro, the star bought the collection in a bid to “reduce his own ecological footprint.” He explained, “I have always been a great lover of art and I wanted to collect items that are unique and have a storyline that is not completely obvious. So instead of having a big chunk of land that I have to maintain for crops or livestock, I instead decided to make an art collection.”
Robert Pattinson’s water collection is certainly unique and it’s definitely not something that you’d usually see in a standard museum. As a vegan, he is committed to sustainable living and he credits his plant-based diet for his radiant complexion and enviable muscle tone.
Along with his artwork, the actor shared a blog post on November 1st, 2018, explaining the importance of a vegan diet in his life. In it, he wrote, “A vegan diet reduces animal suffering, it improves both your mental and physical health, and it helps to protect our environment. Therefore, I encourage you to adopt a vegan lifestyle!”
Since the collection is on display at an ART gallery, it’s open to the public. While it’s beautiful to look at, it’s important to remember that these are not for consumption.
The Science Behind Veganism
Although it’s not commonly known, the benefits of a vegan diet were first described in 1942 by Dr. Walter Kemp. In a nutshell, he suggested that cutting out animal products could help reduce cholesterol and encourage weight loss. Since then, the health advantages of a vegan diet have been backed up by a growing body of scientific research.
A 2018 study from Oxford University found that a vegan diet can reduce the risk of heart disease by nearly 30%. In a review of ten studies, authors Mark Hamer and Michael Mosley concluded, “An overall effect of vegan diets compared with conventional ones was cardiovascular benefits. These included a reduced systolic blood pressure and serum cholesterol.”
The Economics of Going Vegetarian
Aside from the health advantages, there’s also the economic argument for going vegan. According to the United Nations’ 2017 report on “food and sustainable development,” the global meat industry consumes more than 19% of the world’s total agricultural land. That’s more than double the share of 12% consumed by the egg industry. And it’s worth noting that eggs and meat are among the most resource-intensive food items.
One of the main problems is that the vast majority of animal products are produced in “closed-loop systems” that reuse a lot of the same resources, from water to land. As a result, cutting out meat and dairy could save us billions of dollars annually.
In addition to being a more environmentally friendly choice, going vegan may also be cheaper. According to a study from the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), the average cost of a kilogram of meat is $2.60, while the average cost of a kilogram of vegetables is only $0.40. So, if you’re eating healthfully, you’ll probably save money in the long run.
Other Celebrities You Might Like
While we’re on the topic of vegan diets, let’s not forget about other famous people who made the switch. Several studies have shown that people who follow a plant-based diet are more attractive to the opposite sex. Michael Caine went vegan to improve his dating prospects. And it appears that Kim Kardashian’s famous curves are due, in part, to the fact that she’s a vegan. You might also be familiar with Kristen Ritchie, the famous Instagram vegan. She has more than 1.7 million followers and she often posts about vegan fashion and beauty.
So, as you can see, there are many reasons why a vegan diet might be right for you. It seems that Robert Pattinson chose this lifestyle for himself, and as a result, he has a completely unique art collection that inspires others to make the switch to a healthier lifestyle too!
