Fashion and style are currently one of the biggest themes in pop culture, driven by both social media and the seasonal fashion cycle. The success of fashion and style focused movies and TV series such as Gucci Gucci, Victoria Beckham: From Fashion to Family, Fake, and The Devil Wears Prada means that style and fashion are topics that people are passionate about, which in turn makes them prime entertainment targets.

One of the most prominent figures in pop culture to benefit from the current climate of excitement surrounding fashion and style is Robert Pattinson. The British actor rose to fame playing the handsome and mysterious Edward Cullen in the Twilight Saga, and went on to become one of the biggest names in Hollywood. He is currently filming the third and final instalment of the Twilight Saga, entitled Eclipse, and recently wrapped filming on The Lost Symbol, a movie adaptation of the bestselling thriller novel by Dan Brown. Additionally, he recently starred in the highly-anticipated sequel The Legend of Spyro. As well as acting, Pattinson is also a published author with a fashion and lifestyle-focused book entitled Steady On. We recently had the chance to speak with the 34-year-old about his book, his fashion influences, and more.

His Fashion Influences Come From All Over

It’s fair to say that Pattinson has never been one to shy away from a new fashion frontier, having always been open to new ventures and adventures. This adventurous nature manifested itself early on in his career, when he went on a two-week holiday to Nepal with a group of friends in 2004, during which they skited, snowboarded, and hiked up mountains. This was the start of a love affair with extreme sports, which would later influence his fashion choices and lifestyle.

When it comes to his style influences, it’s hard to ignore the impact that travelling and adventuring had on the actor. He grew up in England and was always fascinated by different cultures and ways of life, having travelled to more than 30 countries so far. This is reflected in his eclectic fashion choices, which mix high-end designer brands with thrift store discoveries and second-hand buys. However, his style choices are more than just a result of his travels and cultural immersion: they are also driven by his interpretation of cultural codes and his love for fashion experimentation.

His Travel Photos Are An Inspiration

One of the most endearing features of Pattinson’s style is his frequent inclusion of photos of himself or friends in interesting and varied poses, taken while on holiday or during an adventurous moment. This is something that he does to keep his followers up to date with his adventures and the incredible things that he sees and experiences, which in turn provides an interesting visual narrative for his fans.

This element of photography was influenced by Pattinson’s desire to document his experiences and journey’s as much as his fashion choices. While on holiday in Thailand in 2010, he became interested in documenting the beauty of the country and its people, and has since spent a great deal of time travelling the world taking exciting and immersive pictures.

How Do You Feel About The New ‘Manic Pixie Dream Girl’ Fashion Trend?

This year’s fashion trends are often defined by the youthfulness and optimism that characterises the Manic Pixie Dream girl. The term was coined by fashion critics to describe the unique identity and fashion choices of fictional character Aurora from 2011 film The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1. However, as the saying goes, fashion is cyclical and soon enough we will be back to embracing “traditional” ideas and “age-appropriate” fashion.

When it comes to identifying with fashion and style, much like with many other areas of pop culture, the line is often blurred between what is fantasy and what is reality. While we wait for fashion to “evolve” and move away from the trends that it so often follows, we can still embrace the uniqueness of each moment in life and the people around us, however fabulous they may be.

Where Do You Shop For Your Fashion Needs?

When it comes to shopping for fashion, many people are still under the impression that celebrities have personal stylists who go out and buy clothes for them, and that their own closet is therefore lacking in creativity and originality. While it’s true that some celebrities do rely on stylists to shop for their wardrobes, it isn’t always the case. Some of the biggest names in Hollywood have an arsenal of personal stylists and fashion assistants who go out and buy clothes for them, and it’s not always the case that their personal closets are bursting at the seams.

Shopping for fashion is a very personal and individual process, which can vary from woman to woman. Some people like to get most of their clothes from thrift store and garage sales discoveries and second-hand buys, while others prefer to go out and buy new things as and when they need them. It can be quite tricky to figure out what style of dress fits you best, and it’s not something that can be easily rushed.

There are many different ways to shop for fashion, and it’s a process that everyone should indulge in, whether you’re a celebrity or not.
