As we mentioned in today’s #ASKGrillChat on Twitter, one of the most popular questions we’ve been getting is: What is Robert Pattinson’s nickname?
So, let’s have a look. The answer is: R-Patz.
R-Patz is short for R-Pattinson, which is also known as Robin Pattinson and, more generally, Robert Pattinson. He chose the nickname R-Patz because he considered it funny to say the letter “R” (for Robin) sound like the noise that Batman makes when he breathes (Pattinson).
We should note that, although he shares the same first name with Batman’s most famous screenwriter (and he is often mistaken for him), the actor Robert Pattinson has never been inspired by the comics. In fact, he’d rather pay homage to them. He stated in an interview with Vogue that he feels “a duty to [his] fans to do my best to make [them] feel as though [they’re] watching something that [they’d] seen before….[I want to] put across the idea that [the characters he portrays on screen are] not superheroes or cartoons, [but] that they’re normal people with flaws and problems like anyone else.”

The 31-year-old English actor rose to fame thanks to his portrayal of the lovable rogue Ted in the Twilight films. Since then, he’s continued to appear in Hollywood blockbusters such as The Great Gatsby, Fifty Shades of Grey and The Rover. He has also lent his voice to a number of video games, including Hearthstone, as the voice of Lord Rhubarb.
In addition to his acting career, Robert Pattinson is a published author and has had three books of poetry, one of which was featured on the New York Times best seller list. He also owns a literary agency, Brock Street Books, which he founded in 2016.
Robert Pattinson was born in London on June 25, 1985. He is the son of artist Paul James Pattinson and film producer Kate McCarty. His maternal grandfather was Irish and his great-grandfather was English. In addition to English, Robert has Italian, French and German ancestry. He has an older brother named Charlie and a younger sister named Rosie. He grew up in London’s prestigious Notting Hill district, where he went to the same school as the Duchess of Cambridge. He attended Latymer Upper School before going on to the American School of London and subsequently the Marlborough College.
Prior to deciding to become an actor, Robert studied English literature and linguistics at Oxford University. While at university, he appeared in various stage plays including Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth and The Tempest. After graduating, he moved to New York City to further his acting career. While in New York, he lived in an apartment on the Upper East Side and took acting classes at the New York School of the Arts. He later returned to London and began working with the Royal Shakespeare Company, appearing in various plays including Richard II and King Lear. While studying at Oxford, he formed a band called Sparks, named after the British rock band. They played cover versions of classic rock songs.
After graduating from university in 2008, Robert Pattinson appeared in various bit parts in British television series. In 2009, he had a role in the film Four Lions and later that year, he had a part in the British comedy He Kills Dwarves, which was released in 2011. From 2010 to 2012, he starred as the male lead in the BBC Three sitcom One Cool Friend. In 2011, he also had a supporting role in the British gangster film London. That same year, he starred in the thriller Killing Them Softly, which was released in 2013 and became one of the highest-grossing British indie films of all time.
In 2014, he starred in the horror film The Guest, which was based on the British horror novel The Girl with No Name by Brian White. The following year, he played the Devil in the 2015 film The Darkness, and continued playing various characters in the television series Hocus Pocus and Broadchurch. In 2016, he published his first collection of short stories, titled Love Stories. The following year, he starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in the historical drama The Great Gatsby, which was based on the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel of the same name. In March 2017, Rob Pattinson and his wife, Kate, became parents for the first time when she gave birth to a baby girl named Lola. The following month, he announced that he and Kate were getting a divorce. They had been married for two years. In July 2017, it was reported that Kate had filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences.” A judge later granted the couple’s divorce, which became final in December that year.
In February 2018, shortly after the birth of his second daughter, Seraphina, the actor announced that he and his wife had reconciled. The following month, he had a third daughter, Amabella, with his ex-wife. Since then, the family has become a unit once more, appearing in a number of media outlets to promote each other’s projects.
As for his romantic life, in 2012, Rob Pattinson was linked to Canadian singer/songwriter Nandi Simons. The couple were photographed together on numerous occasions. However, they never confirmed their relationship, and it was later reported that they weren’t dating. He then went on to star in the 2015 romantic comedy The Wedding Party, alongside Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet. In 2018, he began dating musician and producer Isobel Graham.
To say that Rob Pattinson has had a varied and successful career would be an understatement. While some may still be convinced that he’s just a handsome guy in a bikini, he’s proven himself to be so much more than that. R-Patz may not be the usual nickname for an actor, but we can’t think of a better one for Robert Pattinson.
