Robert Pattinson is an English actor and singer. He rose to prominence playing Cedric Diggory in the Harry Potter film series. Now, he’s famous for playing the lead role of Edward Cullen in the Twilight film series. The latest installment in the Twilight Saga, New Moon, was named the second-highest-grossing movie of all time.
Why Edward Cullen?
To be fair, there are many reasons why Edward Cullen is one of the most popular characters in Twilight. Here are some:
- He’s a vampire.
- He’s an alpha male.
- He has a broody look that is very manly.
- He’s a doting husband who is completely devoted to his wife.
- He’s a loner who wants to be left alone.
- He’s a bit of a nerd, yet a successful entrepreneur (TM).
- He can be mysterious and exciting.
- He has a tragic backstory. His parents died when he was young, and it left him with a deep devotion to family.
- He’s a skilled horseman who rides to work every day.
- He’s very protective of his family, which makes him a natural leader.
- He has a quirky sense of humor that his fans love (and we love them too).
- His favorite band is The Rolling Stones. He often cites them as an influence. He even has a tattoo of a snake wrapped around a branch, a symbol from one of their songs (The Rolling Stones, Brown Sugar).
The Best Scenes From New Moon
New Moon is probably the most popular film in the Twilight Saga. Why? It might be because it was the first time we got to see Edward in action. The film also marked the first time we got to see his vampire powers. Here are some of our favorite scenes from the movie. (Click on the images below to enlarge them.)
- The Bite: This scene shows Edward as he is transforming into a vampire. It starts with an ominous guitar sting and pans across his impeccably tailored suits as he slowly sheds his mortal coil. This was a scene we weren’t really prepared to see. It was definitely a haunting image, and it caused a ripple of unease inside us. This is one of the most well-known images of the character. If you’re new to the series, start with this one since it will give you a good sense of what the movie is about. While some might consider the whole transformation to be a bit much, it’s absolutely essential in creating the perfect synergy between man and vampire.
- The Kiss (Spoilers!): This is one of the most important scenes in the Twilight saga. In it, Edward and Bella (played by Kristen Stewart) finally give into their passion for each other. In true Romeo-and-Juliet style, they’re constantly interrupted by the meddling paparazzi. It’s at these moments that we realize how much the character is willing to give up for the ones he loves.
- The Ball (Spoilers!): In this scene, Alice (played by Kate Winslet) finally tells Bella about the Cullens’ plan for the evening. They’re going to host a charity ball in aid of animal rights. It looks like Bella might have another suitor in the form of Christian Grey. He dances with Bella, while Alice keeps a watchful eye on them.
- Breaking Up: This is the heartbreaking scene where Bella breaks up with Edward. We all know how hard it is to say goodbye to a loved one. In the end, she realizes that she needs to rely on herself and go after what she wants. Edward’s disappointment is palpable, as is her own.
- The Wedding (Spoilers!): Finally, after months of denying their feelings, Edward proposes to Bella. This was the last scene we were really anticipating. We were afraid that Bella might say no, but she immediately accepts. This is when we know for sure that Edward and Bella’s fates are intertwined. They will eventually fall in love and be together forever (or at least for the rest of their natural lives).
