While we knew something was up when the ‘On The Road’ singer didn’t attend the Grammys, it was only after he performed with a hologram of Ludwig van Beethoven that the world learned the truth about Kanye West and Taylor Swift.
The British actor Robert Pattinson has revealed that he played the controversial rapper in a new movie.
“Yes, I played Kanye in a movie, and I had so much fun. It was such an honor to play someone as legendary as him,” the ‘Twilight’ star told the publication. “There wasn’t really much research done on Kanye before the filming of the movie. I think a lot of it was done through coincidence, because I didn’t really know that much about him.”
He continued: “It’s funny, because I literally had no knowledge of Kanye before I started filming, and it wasn’t until later in the shoot that I learned all the trivia about him. One of the interesting things was that, when you look at him, and you listen to him talk, a lot of what he says doesn’t make sense. So much of what he says is nonsensical. It’s almost like he’s speaking gibberish. So, for me, it was all about taking that on and being able to play someone who is so out of this world that the rest of the world doesn’t really understand what’s going on.”
Kanye is known for his eccentricities, and while in high school he would often wear a beanie cap with a feather in it, later in life he grew the hair on top of his head into braids and began wearing sneakers with socks.
The Making of ‘Ye’
According to director Adam Wingard, who worked with the 35-year-old on the upcoming anthology film ‘The Guest’, the role of Kanye was initially offered to another actor, but he turned it down. So Wingard offered it to the English hunk, who quickly accepted.
“It was either him or another actor, and it was a tough choice,” Wingard told The New York Times. “He was the first person to respond to my email, and we immediately started sending messages back and forth. Luckily, he agreed to do it. He’s a very talented guy.”
The filmmaker revealed that after going through several months of rehearsals and reading the script multiple times, he finally got the hang of playing Kanye. He also praised the controversial MC’s impressive flow.
“It’s something that I think is very unique. People who listen to hip-hop and rap music, and who are fans of Kanye, will know what I’m talking about when I say that this is one of the best rap performances that I’ve ever heard. He just has a fantastic flow,” Wingard said.
All Things Taylor
While we’ll never know what really happened between Kanye and Tay, what we do know is that the pair had a horrible falling out over the summer of 2018, which led to them releasing a song called ‘Famous’.
The diss track was written after the pop star broke up with Kanye, with whom she had been dating for two years, and it’s safe to say it wasn’t received well by the couple’s fans. In it, Kanye calls Taylor “fake” and claims that she is actually famous for being famous.
After recording the track, the pair patched things up and decided to work together on some music. Taylor premiered a new song called ‘I Thought About You’, which features Kanye, on Saturday Night Live on September 14. The song is the first to be released from her upcoming album ‘Ready For Party’.
Although ‘I Thought About You’ was written by Taylor and Kanye, it was the former’s frequent collaborators including Jack White and Ty Dolla $ign who produced the song. One of the more recent examples of the creative team’s work is Taylor’s upcoming single ‘Old Town Road’, which was produced by 20th Century-Fox and DJ Khaled.
Dancing With The Stars
While most people were focused on the drama between Kanye and Taylor, the fashion world was reminded of the quirky rapper when he appeared on NBC’s ‘Dancing With The Stars’ in October 2018.
It was a month before the release of ‘Ye’, and the media was abuzz with talk of the 36-year-old rapper making an appearance on the dance competition show. He ended up being one of the favorites to win, and even after he was announced as the winner, the audience members chanted his name in awe.
It was one of the highlights of the season, and reminded fans that even though he is best known for rapping, Kanye is a phenomenal dancer.
The Grammys, Oscars, And E!
When it comes to the entertainment industry, Kanye is probably best known for his involvement in some very high profile feuds.
The most recent example of this occurred in 2018 when he released an album, ‘Jesus Is King’, which was met with positive reviews but no major label support. It didn’t help that he made a number of controversial remarks at the Grammy Awards that year.
Kanye began his speech by thanking Taylor for being the best friend an artist could have – which was a direct shot at Game (another rapper who has feuded with Kanye in the past).
“I just want to thank Taylor for being the best friend an artist could have. And that is because she believed in me when no one else did. She believed in my talent. She believed in my future. And for that, I am eternally grateful,” Kanye said at the Grammys.
It was later revealed that Kanye had been invited to perform at the 2019 Oscars but he declined the invitation, citing “creative differences”. He also famously snubbed the Grammys the year before, as he had the night of the ceremony he was set to perform at but ended up cancelling at the last minute.
In 2018, the rapper was also in the middle of a very public feud with the media company E! News.
His war with E! began when he unfollowed them on social media after they published a story that he claimed was “fake news.” Although he later followed them, the feud continued on Twitter when he called out Roseanne Barr for promoting a story about him on her show. The “Roseanne” star later apologized for the error, but the feud continued.
