There are few actors who embody pure pop culture and celebrity like Robert Pattinson. The British actor has captivated audiences in films such as the Harry Potter and the Twilight Saga franchises, appearing in some of the most iconic films of our time. But despite being on the forefront of Hollywood, Pattinson still has a good dose of humble beginnings. In fact, the actor is so down-to-earth that he doesn’t even own a cellphone. We take a look at some of the things that Robert Pattinson is afraid of and what it means for his career.

Taxes

Pattinson has famously stated that he isn’t a fan of taxes, especially in the United Kingdom. The actor owns a home in the country and is frequently photographed there holding court over an open fire, which he calls “rolling in the grass”. The actor fears that his activity could attract the attention of the tax authorities. However, he has also stated that he isn’t worried about getting “crushed by a giant robot” from above. But then, who knows? This year has seen a number of Hollywood stars hitched to famous musicians whose star power may just land them in the right place at the right time and in the right condition.

Robots

The actor is often photographed with his arms folded, looking slightly uncomfortable. This may be due to his fear of robots. As previously mentioned, the Twilight actor doesn’t own a cellphone, which makes him a bit of a hermit. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t aware of what’s going on around him. In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Pattinson stated: “I don’t really like talking to people [on the telephone]. It makes me feel a bit guilty, as though I’m doing something wrong… I always think I’m giving people a cold shoulder, instead of the other way around. So I’ll talk to you, and you’ll talk to me, but that’s about it.”

The actor isn’t the only one to have grown suspicious of robots; they have apparently become a source of anxiety for a number of people. The creators of the TV show Black Mirror have said that they based the main antagonist of the show on an irrational fear of robots. So if you’re a big fan, this may be something you need to check out.

Vampires

Vampires have never been a favorite item of mine. I’m more of a fan of werewolves and their ilk. However, I do make an exception for the most famous vampire of them all. In an interview with The Telegraph, the Twilight actor said that he gets a “shock” whenever he sees people drinking blood. This isn’t the only thing that bothers Pattinson about vampires; he also claims that they are “inhuman”. The actor also has irrational fears of clowns and wasps. So if you’re one of these creatures, you may want to avoid being alone with Pattinson.

Dementia

The Twilight actor struggles with dementia. In fact, he is so committed to playing the part that he has been known to forget his lines. And while we’re on the subject, let’s not forget about the poor guy’s drug addiction. This is apparently what landed him in rehab, though it’s far from clear whether or not he has managed to overcome his problems. In an interview with GQ, Pattinson said that he had been battling with substance abuse for a number of years. He reportedly attempted to kick the habit several times, though it seems that his attempts weren’t entirely successful. And while we’re on the subject of addiction, let’s not forget about the actor’s love for luxury products, which often end up being expensive acquisitions. And this brings us to another fear of his: financial ruin.

Bankruptcy

Pattinson isn’t the only one to feel uneasy about going bankrupt. A number of high-profile musicians, artists, and even business people have filed for bankruptcy in the last few years. There is a distinct link between going broke and becoming a celebrity. Bankruptcy attorney Joseph McKuin told The New York Times in March that some of these people filed for bankruptcy “because they couldn’t handle the extra attention. They didn’t want to be known as ‘that guy who went bankrupt.’ They wanted to be known for their art.” So if you’re in the entertainment industry and want to stay relevant, make sure you avoid this as much as possible.

Height

The Twilight actor is relatively short compared to the average human being. This may be what gives him the hunchback appearance that he sometimes mimics in photos. This quality appears to be a source of amusement to some of his fans, who often make a point of reminding him of his limitations. In an interview with GQ, Pattinson said: “I have no interest in standing out from the crowd. And it’s not that I want to disappear; I just want to stay silent. I don’t need to prove myself to anyone.”

The actor isn’t entirely happy with his height, either. In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, he spoke about feeling “inadequate” and “awkward” because of his height. The interviewer suggested that if he ever wants to connect with people on a deeper level, he may need to find a way to channel this inadequacy into something more positive. She also asked if he ever thought about undergoing any kind of height-related therapy or changing his diet to boost his growth. He gave an enigmatic smile and didn’t really provide any direct answers. It would be interesting to see what kind of therapy he would try, though. There is a reason why he hasn’t changed his diet or undergone any kind of therapy yet, though. He isn’t sure that he needs to. He feels that he just needs to do the work, which he seems to be doing quite successfully.

So what does all of this mean? Well, it means that if you’re in Hollywood and want to stay alive, avoid doing drugs and alcohol. Try and stay off the internet as much as possible, especially if you’re browsing celebrity gossip websites or watching reality TV. If you can’t help but be in the spotlight, then make sure you surround yourself with people who can help mitigate the damaging effects of fame. If you’re really lucky, you may even find that your talents lie in a different direction; perhaps you’re a talented artist or designer, and instead of being an actor or a musician, you can use your skills to help others express themselves. At the very least, you’ll definitely want to do your best to better understand what your fans want and need, and make sure that you give them what they want. The only way to do this is by being honest and open, which may not be easy, but it’s the only way forward. Ultimately, you may find that you are happier being yourself and avoiding all of this chaos. But if not, at least you’ll know that you’re doing your best.
