Most stars can cook. Some can even bake, but for those that can’t, there are people who can help. Take British actor and singer Robert Pattinson as an example. Though he’s famous for his acting work, which includes a role in the upcoming Twilight Saga (more on that later), he’s rarely been seen in a kitchen. His lack of culinary skills may have even landed him a spot on a few culinary reality shows.
Now, however, he’s opened up about his love for Italian food in a new interview with Grazia. In it, he talks about his food preferences, which include pasta, and how he’s changed since filming wrapped on Twilight. He also reveals that he’s never been adventurous in the kitchen, which is why he usually cooks what his parents make him, polenta or lentils. In the end, he says, he doesn’t mind being judged for eating pasta every day, because he feels that it’s a healthier option than sweets. Here’s what he had to say.
Pasta Is His Food Groupie Favorite
When asked about his favourite food group, Pattinson chooses pasta. He goes on to mention that he “doesn’t do” a lot of other food groups, but he does eat a lot of pasta. He explains, “I really like pasta. I don’t do a lot of other food groups – I don’t do a lot of vegetables, I don’t do a lot of fish, and I don’t do a lot of meat. I think that pasta is a healthier option. There’s not a lot going on in terms of the flavor; usually it’s just some butter, oil, and cheese. It doesn’t taste like much, but it’s filling and I like that.”
He Changed Since The Twilight Saga
Since 2011’s Twilight, Pattinson has changed quite a bit. He now enjoys spending time in the kitchen, whether it’s preparing a meal for his family or making a healthy dinner for himself. He also does yoga and runs his own organic garden. Moreover, he’s developed a taste for Italian fashion, which he promotes on Instagram.
In the interview, he tells Grazia that after years of pursuing acting roles, he learned how to cook. He explains, “It just so happened that after years of pursuing acting roles, I suddenly found myself without a job. So, I decided to try my hand at cooking. I did a course to learn how to cook pasta and pizza. Once you know how to do that, it’s easier to move on to making meatballs or lasagnas. It’s all about practice.”
Reality TV Hasn’t Changed His Life
Although he’s never been particularly camera-shy, Pattinson has remained guarded about his personal life. However, that hasn’t stopped him from appearing on reality TV shows. He’s been on popular shows like Ready Steady Cook and Great British Baking Show. Perhaps his greatest achievement, though, was appearing on the Food Network’s Masterchef in 2012. There, he was able to showcase his talent for creating masterful meals, which landed him a job offer from the French restaurant Mugarada. He explains, “I didn’t want to do a lot of reality TV, because I’ve never really been that type of person. But the producers of the show I was on, Ready Steady Cook, approached me about participating in a pasta challenge, and I thought it’d be a good idea. If I can prove to people that I can cook, that’s the main thing.”
Pattinson’s love for pasta is no secret. It was even a part of his character when he played Edward Cullen in Twilight. The part of the script that mentions his favourite food is the scene in which Bella (played by Kristen Stewart) surprises him with a pizza made especially for him by a friend. It’s an act that both surprised and impressed him. Edward asks Bella to teach him how to make pizza, and he eventually invites her over to help him perfect his craft. He tells Grazia, “That was probably one of the highlights of the entire movie for me. In the book, it’s a very short scene, but at the time, it was one of the longer scenes, especially since we were shooting in Italy. That was a real treat. I didn’t do much else [in the movie] because we were always eating and I was never really hungry. It’s funny, because when we did do some romantic scenes, it was always in the evening and it was always me who wanted to cook for her. I was like, ‘I’m going to make dinner for you, my love,’ and she was like, ‘That’s so sweet of you, but let’s just go out to eat.'”
He Might Not Mind Being Judged For Eating Pasta
It might be a surprise that a star who’s been in the public eye for so long hasn’t learned to bake or cook, but it’s clear that Pattinson doesn’t mind being judged for eating pasta. He even seems to encourage it. He jokes, “I don’t mind being judged for eating pasta; I actually kind of like it. My aunt used to always say that when you enter a restaurant, it’s the servers who should be worried, because you’re not going to leave the food review. So, here’s to being judged for eating pasta and pizza – what else is new?”
It seems like Pattinson has finally found his calling. Now that he’s learned how to make the perfect pizza and pasta, he might find it easier to follow in the footsteps of some of his famous (and better-looking) acting idols and enter the kitchen.
