It was recently announced that former “Twilight” and “Snow White and the Huntsman” star, Robert Pattinson, will be gracing the covers of Vanity Fair and Time magazines this upcoming winter. The 27-year-old actor is best known for his leading role as Cedric Diggory in the first two “Harry Potter” films. However, his filmography also includes the independent hit, “Belle”, alongside actresses Mia Wasikowska and Kate Winslet. Although he is known for starring in some critically-acclaimed and award-winning films, it seems that not all of his work is created equal. Is he really as good as his Hollywood reputation suggests?

Critics & Fans Disagree About the Actor’s Work

Those who have seen and loved “Dharma and Greg”, the popular romantic comedy that Pattinson starred in, will tell you that it is one of his best performances. However, many consider his work in “Water for Elephants” to be among his worst. After watching the latest installment of the “Harry Potter” saga, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”, many fans feel that Pattinson’s performance was nothing short of abysmal. One Twitter user even went so far as to call it “one of the worst movie performances of all time.”

Although there is no question that Pattinson has improved as an actor since first appearing on the big screen at the age of nine, his fan base seems to be divided on whether or not he has grown as a person in the process. Some believe that he has lost his way while others think he has found it. Regardless, just because he has a successful acting career it does not mean that his personal life is any less interesting.

Why Does He Deserve a Second Look?

If you haven’t heard of Pattinson, it’s probably time you should have. The British actor has been in the public eye since he first appeared on our screens at the age of nine in the movie “Twilight”. Since then, he has appeared in numerous hit films and television shows that have made him a recognizable face globally. But it wasn’t always easy for the “Twilight” star. He was initially typecast as a brooding, young man in a hood and couldn’t break free of that image. But over the past few years, he has slowly begun to shed that image and show a darker side. Perhaps the best example of this was in “Snow White and the Huntsman”, where he portrayed the evil Queen’s lover. Although the film was a critical and commercial flop, it won Pattinson critical praise for his acting and now he is clearly not willing to shy away from negative characters.

Why Does He Need To Be Judge By Himself?

While we all love having our favorite celebrities judge our favorite TV shows and films, it doesn’t always work out that way. Just look at the case of “The Handmaid’s Tale”. The show is based on the critically acclaimed bestselling novel by Margaret Atwood and it follows the story of Offred (played by Elisabeth Moss), whose sole purpose in life is to bear children to the Reverend Asher (played by Sam Shepard). Although she is supposed to be an empowering story for women, many feel that it glorifies female servitude and patriarchal society. The book and the show were both written and produced by women and the main female characters are treated more like objects and less like autonomous human beings.

There are also those who feel that seeing a famous celebrity in character is in some ways more interesting than seeing them in their real life. This is the case with “The Wizard of Oz”, where we meet the notorious Wizard (played by Judy Garland) for the first time. Although she is initially a terrifying figure, she ends up being one of the most iconic movie witches of all time. The same can be said for Mae West, whose role as Grandmama was inspired by Katharine Hepburn. In the 1939 film, she famously exclaimed, “Say what you want, do what you need, and never, ever apologize.” Although there is plenty for everyone to enjoy about this immensely popular classic, it is worth noting that Hepburn played a fairly timid, sweet, almost grandmotherly figure in real life. West’s portrayal of a crafty and sassy grandmama would become a blueprint for generations of performers.

The Latest “Harry Potter” Film Won’t Be Opening to the Public For Another Two Years!

As we have established, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” is not a good movie, however, it is also not the end of the world. Even those who disliked the latest “Harry Potter” flick can accept that it is still a work of art, albeit a troubled one. It is not often that we get to see the development of a storyline that began 14 years ago, not to mention the opportunity to see the universe of the Harry Potter books realized onscreen. Moreover, this is also the last film of Daniel Radcliffe’s Harry Potter career, as he will be turning 27 years old in a few months and will be forced to assume a new identity. Perhaps it is a good thing that this won’t be opening to the public until after his birthday.

What Is He Going to Do With All of This?

It seems that Pattinson isn’t just interested in acting. The 27-year-old star has also become obsessed with fashion, often dressing in interesting, mismatched ensembles. If we compare his Instagram account to that of a regular, average, everyday person, there is almost no resemblance. He often wears outlandish outfits that make us question whether or not he has lost his mind. In one instance, he dressed as Alexander McQueen’s “Scream” and in another, he wore a gorgeous dress made entirely of diamonds.

Some feel that this is all part of a publicity stunt. The rumor going around is that he is trying to force his way into the designer fashion industry and is using this as a way to gain support and funding for his fashion blog, Camp. In 2017, he started the blog and began posting about his favorite designers and what they were making. While some of the content is rather intriguing, it is obvious that he is just doing this as a form of publicity. This is supported by the fact that there is no actual content of his own, it is all about the designers. This is also one of the main reasons why he needs to be judged solely by his work. If we are interested in seeing what he has to say about fashion, we should probably check out his blog rather than the TV show or movie he is in.
