Robert Pattinson became an international celebrity when he appeared in the 2012 film, “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2.” Since then, he’s become an icon not just for his film career, but also for his unique brand of fashion and activism as well.

Pattinson shot to fame after playing the role of Edward Cullen in “The Twilight Saga,” a role that made him a household name. Since then, he’s appeared in a string of commercially and critically successful films, cementing his status as one of Hollywood’s most in-demand actors. In 2019 alone, Pattinson appeared in four films, starring in the dark comedy, “Never Stop Loving You,” the psychological thriller, “Outlaw King,” the romantic comedy, “Bewitched,” and the crime film, “The High Life.”

But it wasn’t always smooth sailing for the 24-year-old British-born actor. Several high-profile roles didn’t meet with acclaim, with Pattinson playing the villain in the 2017 movie, “Venom,” an adaptation of the popular horror comic book of the same name, and the lead in the 2014 movie, “Bel Ami,” about a famous singer who falls for a teenage girl. Both movies underperformed at the box office and received mixed reviews.

The Method Behind the Madness

While plenty of actors go through harsh, rigorous training in order to prepare for their roles, Pattinson has put his own spin on the process. The actor has been open about the unorthodox ways he developed his acting skills, and he credits an acting coach named, “Madame DeBeauvoir,” for much of his success.

“I met Madame DeBeauvoir when I was young and impressionable,” Pattinson told Marie Claire. “I wanted to be an actor, so I studied improvisation at university. It was tough, having never done it before. I had to really force myself to become comfortable in my own skin and not take myself too seriously. Madame DeBeauvoir would have me repeat scenes over and over again until I could get them right. It sounds simple enough, but it was incredibly effective.”

Pattinson continued, “Acting is a demanding job. I never really thought of it as a ‘career,’ but rather as a ‘job.’ When I finally got the chance to pursue it professionally, I knew I had to dive in with both feet. Now, I feel that I am truly equipped to handle any role I take on.”

According to Variety, Pattinson credits his acting coach for helping him “gain a deeper understanding of his characters” and “unleash the best emotional performance he’s ever given.”

The Method Actor’s Approach to Film

If Pattinson is serious about giving the best performance possible, then how does he go about it? While most actors work hard on their on-screen characters, obsessively studying them, the Welsh-born actor takes a different approach.

“You don’t need to know a lot about a character to play them. You just need to know yourself,” Pattinson told Premiere Magazine. “When I first started acting, I was afraid to show my emotions in case it affected my performance. Now, I realize that acting is all about showing the truth of your character. It’s not about pretending to be someone else — that’s what makes it hard. Plus, in real life, no one is that cool.”

While many actors work tirelessly to perfect their craft, Pattinson reportedly likes to come into the studio early and leave late. The actor has spoken about his passion for acting and the importance of living your best life:

“I don’t want to give the impression that all I do is work. I love going to the movies and hanging out with friends. I live in London with my boyfriend, a film producer. We have a dog and two cats, which I petted until I realized that what I was doing was not natural. I was brought up with animals, so it’s in my blood, but I never thought I’d be an owner. Now, I’m very fond of them.”

How Does He Stay So Fit?

It’s no secret that Pattinson is one of Hollywood’s most in-demand actors. He’s regularly graced the cover of prestigious magazines, such as Vogue, appearing alongside some of the world’s best-known fashion designers and photographers. The actor is also frequently touted as one of Britain’s most eligible bachelors and was most recently listed as the third most popular bachelor in the country in a telephone poll conducted by the Daily Mail.

While some celebrities take advantage of their fame by shunning exercise, Pattinson is constantly pictured posing in workout clothes, showing off his toned physique.

The fitness-focused actor credits his work-out regime for helping to forge his gorgeous image: “I always try to do a lot of cardio so that my muscles work hard while my skin stays tight. Also, lifting weights helps with emotion. When I do the scenes in ‘Outlaw King’ where I’m screaming at people, it really helps to feel like I’ve changed physically as well as mentally. That’s what really gets me into character,” he told GQ. (We’re pretty sure he’s talking about the scene in which he takes on all comers at a pub.)

How does Pattinson stay so fit? There’s no secret to his amazing transformation – he’s followed a strict regimen of nutrition and workout that he keeps detailed in a private blog. The actor spends around four hours a day writing about his experiences as an actor and fitness enthusiast, detailing the foods he eats and the workouts he does.

According to his blog, Pattinson’s morning snack is a bowl of oatmeal with brown sugar and cinnamon, and he tries to avoid refined sugar and processed foods. The actor also exercises regularly, performing cardio workouts like Zumba, spin bike riding, and hiking, as well as weight lifting.

Where Does He Get His Style?

If there’s one place we’re sure to find Pattinson’s everyday style, it’s on set. The actor has frequently been spotted wearing his own designs, which he says are a mixture of high-end brands like Burberry and Marc Jacobs, along with fast-fashion favorites, such as JOVANI and MICHAEL KORS. However, it’s not just about the brands he wears – it’s about the way he wears them.

“I mix high-end and fast fashion because, in reality, no one has enough time to spend looking at yourself in a mirror all day long,” Pattinson told Vogue. “It’s important to have clothes that you feel comfortable in, regardless of the price. You can go high-end or low-end, and it’s all about taste.”

Acting Is a Family Business

Pattinson is the grandson of actors Alec and Margaret Pattinson, who were both prominent onstage during their lifetimes. He grew up watching his family entertain audiences around the world with their famous stage presence, and he inherited their acting genes. It was only natural that he decided to follow in their footsteps.

“I knew that I had to start acting even before I knew what it meant. I wanted to be a part of this world and fill the gap that my grandparents left. It’s a responsibility that I take very seriously. When I see other actors having a good time, I feel like I’ve let myself down. This is serious business,” Pattinson told Vogue.

Pattinson’s Style Has Inspired Fashion Designers

It’s not just about what Pattinson wears – it’s how he wears it. The multi-hyphenate’s unique style has inspired fashion designers, who’ve recreated his outfits time and time again, most recently for a photoshoot for Vogue Spain. While the designer recreated Pattinson’s outfit using some of our favorite designers, such as Marc Jacobs and Burberry, the look was actually based on an outfit the actor wore to an event in Madrid, Spain, last year.

“The way he mixes expensive and fast fashion is something that is hard to copy,” creative director of Marc Jacobs’ fragrance house, Jacopo Silanos, told Vogue. “You can see that he wears the Marc Jacobs handbag with complete confidence and you can tell that he owns the outfit because of the way he carries himself. He has this incredible magnetism that makes him effortlessly cool.”
