While many of us were busy worrying about the UK going to the polls to vote on Brexit, there was another major event taking place – in the woods near Los Angeles, California.
It was there that Kristen Stewart unveiled her new movie, Robinson Chruch, starring as Olive and introducing us to the new villain, Robert Pattinson. And while we were happy to see Stewart back on the big screen after her brief break from film following the release of Camp X-Ray, we had our reservations about this new role, which marks Pattinson’s first on-screen appearance in ten years. What is your take on this newest trailer for Robinson Chruch? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
Olive Has a Familiar Look
Even before we see the first frames of the trailer, we are aware that Robinson Chruch is a movie about an ex-convict named Olive who has been falsely accused of killing her adoptive father and incarcerated. We also learn that she has a sister, Vicky, played by Michele Coppola, who is on the run from the law. The trailer gives us a look at Vicky, who is an exact replica of Olive, down to the tattoos. While we get a glimpse of their father at the end of the trailer, Mr. Robinson is still alive and well, which is good news for Olive. She will not have to worry about being killed by the authorities as long as she stays away from them.
An Ambitious Plot
As we learn from the trailer, Vicky is planning to free Olive from jail and get her away from the clutches of the law. Naturally, the two women will have to overcome a few obstacles along the way. They have plenty of money but no real plans so when they come across Lester, a washed-up race car driver who has a grand design in mind, they jump at the chance to join his crew. They believe that by racing the cars they can make some real cash to help them escape the country. Of course, they have no idea of the real plan that Lester has in mind for them.
Lester is the mastermind of the whole operation. He has decided that since he cannot go back to prison himself for the crime he committed, he will make sure that no one tampers with him during the race. The trailer teases a very high-speed car chase through Los Angeles and even features shots of some of the most recognizable landmarks. However, we do not get a good look at Lester. All we see is his back as he checks off the items on his ‘to-do’ list. While there is no denying that this is an exciting trailer, it still leaves quite a bit to the imagination.
A Familiar Face Is Missing
Not only do we get to see the replica sisters, we also learn that Vicky has fired her lawyer and is now representing herself. This is a risky move, especially since it means that she will have to take on the entire legal system herself. We learn that her father, Ben, played by Dermot Mulroney, was a successful real estate developer who was allegedly murdered by an ex-convict named Frank. What is more, Frank has been paroled and is now free to prey on the family. Vicky, in an attempt to clear her name, hires Mickey, a no-nonsense private investigator, to look into the matter. She does not trust the police, whom she believes are covering up for Frank. If the trailer is any indication, Frank is an incredibly vicious villain who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. One can only imagine the kind of mayhem that the replica sisters will get into as they try to prove their innocence.
Robert Pattinson
Finally, we have Robert Pattinson, who has apparently changed his last name to Robinson. In the trailer, we see a middle-aged version of the actor as he drives a car and looks into cameras, delivering witty quips and one-liners as he tries to intimidate the other characters. He also looks quite dashing in a tight, white shirt, which accentuates his muscular build. This may not sound like the most original plot, but considering that it is based on a real-life event, it is not hard to see how the inspiration for this hit show could have come from a true story. We will have to wait and see how good the writing is when compared to the source material. For now, we have an exciting trailer to look forward to!
